I like Trae Crowder a lot, DGRossetti , he's been on Bill Maher a couple of times. Think Bill is back this Friday. He should be feeling very vindicated, he always described the Trump administration as a slow moving coup.

On a totally separate note relating to something mentioned up thread, clearly I have been living under a rock, as I had no idea about the Melania body double thing, I've just looked it up. WTF? Why? And exactly who is paying for them for their act and to be protected by secret service? Can you imagine the collective conservative head explosion if Michelle Obama had pulled a stunt like this? It's not just Donald who has been given a free pass. Melania really has nothing to complain about, and as to her bleating about "salacious gossip" - that's rich coming from a birther.

The only similarity is they both presided over countries in burning ruins

Her majesty won't be amused Wink

BruceAndNosh · 12/01/2021 17:21

Sorry Queen.

Trump on impeachment: "For Nancy Pelosi a
nd Chuck Schumer to continue on this path, I think it's causing tremendous danger to our county and it's causing tremendous anger. I want no violence."*

Guess what? Many other people are angry too. At the violence.

And.

'Many participants documented their involvement in the day’s events on social media. Some went without wearing masks to prevent the spread of the coronavirus infection, making them easy for armchair detectives to identify.

Some have lost their jobs. Some face criminal charges. The Pentagon has opened 25 investigations into domestic terrorism related to the riot. The FBI has asked the public for tips on those involved in the assault.

“Many of Trump’s followers are living in a fantasy world,” said Eric Foner, an American historian and author of the book “Reconstruction: America’s Unfinished Revolution, 1863-1877.” “They don’t appear to have given any thought to the consequences of their actions.”'

The former Pennsylvania state lawmaker handed his cell phone to his wife to record his message. “We are trying to run out all the evil people and RINOs that have betrayed our president,” said Saccone, using a term to disparage moderate Republicans as Republicans In Name Only.

I find the parallels to Brexit - again - too much for coincidence.

Nobody saw it coming.

Except the FBI (and everyone else).

FBI report warned of ‘war’ at Capitol, contradicting claims there was no indication of looming violence

Thank you, I hadn't seen that before, CAveMum. God, I had forgotten what a disgrace to America Obama was!

All the usual suspects in that montage, Hannity and all the Fox nutters. But also, Jake Tapper, Alysin Camerota and Brianna Keilar of CNN laying into Obama for nothing but the ratings. I wonder if they look back and feel ashamed of themselves.

There are still some people alive in Britain who spent several years of their childhood living through WW2. My DM, now 91, remembers flying bombs overhead, and her area of S London had its share of bombs. One landed in a nearby street - god knows how awful that must have been. We Babyboomers knew that without Churchill, the outcome of the war could have been very different.

I doubt my DM and her peers would have been aware of Churchill's earlier career. What they did know is that he brought an end to their terror.

So celebrating 50 years since his funeral serves as a reminder to my cohort, and also likely means more to those of my DM's generation who are still alive.

(however I have to say I didn't know 50 years since Churchill's funeral had been celebrated)

Of course we all saw it coming, what we didn't/couldn't do was put sanctions in place to prevent it. I'm still disappointed in the US Constitution's famous "checks and balances". They haven't worked. (I know I'm repeating itself and it has been explained here before. But what are Amendments for, if not to bring the Constitution up to date and allow it to take into account anomalies (well, I hope he's not the norm!) like Trump?)
Following one of @lionheart's recent links, it is my greatest hope, in terms of American politics, that Trump is tried and found guilty of inciting deadly riots at the Capitol. Soon. Yesterday, in fact.

Destinysdaughter · 12/01/2021 18:22

Saw this on a FB thread about why so many apparently spiritual types were attracted to Trump.

BlueCatRedCat · 12/01/2021 18:26

Slippery snake Jim Jordan (in the House committee meeting on the 25th Amendment) telling the Dems to promote unity, but refusing to state that Biden won fair and square. From 5 mins in. Jamie Raskin of Maryland speaks very well here.

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 12/01/2021 18:29

Been busy and missed these threads. I've been watching US news while working, and also reading Heather Cox Richardson's summaries each day. Got another couple of days of intense work then I'm hoping to rejoin these threads properly. So really this is just a place mark and a thanks to you all for keeping them going.

Officials in the city of Alamo were not told about the Trump visit ..

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 12/01/2021 18:38

I have a serious question about Jake Whoositface with the horns: his mummy says he will only eat organic food in prison, but how can he tell? And how would he prove it?

Let him "starve". When he gets hungry enough he'll eat what is put in front of him, like a small child who doesn't want spaghetti hoops but only alphabetti spaghetti and kicks his heels and screams to try to enforce his will.

Shit is organic - feed him that. He's evidently been swallowing Trump's bullshit for the past few years anyway so I doubt he'll complain.

Convincing the public Churchill was a decent wartime strategic leader is the best thing he ever pulled off. I dont deny he had some good wualities in the job but he failed constantly with ideas that shouldnt have come out of his head in the first place and forced the army to try them.

user1471565182 · 12/01/2021 18:44

And appeasing Hitler and finding out what a lousy idea that was may have had something to do with it.
