Here we go, thankfully someone has transcribed all the WWW podcasts so I was able to search the episode for the Trump reference. This is it, it's almost identical so I'm afraid I'd say that clip is not accurate:

HRISHI: Donald Trump gave a speech and he, pointing to his military commanders, he said:
[excerpt of Donald Trump speaking at a photo call with the press before a dinner at the White
House with military leaders and their spouses, Thursday 5th October, 2017]
TRUMP: You guys know what this represents?
REPORTER: Tell us, sir.
TRUMP: Maybe it’s the calm before the storm.
REPORTER: What storm, Mr. President?
TRUMP: You’ll find out.
[end excerpt]

Yohoheaveho · 11/01/2021 12:34

No good way out
That seems to be trump's particular talent he manoeuvres people (people cleverer and more accomplished than he) into impossible situations where there is no good outcome, Pence is completely cornered and he let trump do that to him

PerkingFaintly · 11/01/2021 12:36

That's exactly right, Yoyoheaveho. By the time they learn the lesson, it's too late.

DeRigueurMortis · 11/01/2021 12:42

Re: Pence.

I read (can't remember where now) that he feels the threat of the 25th is more effective in keeping Trump in line rather than him announcing he's going to do it.

However in the background discussions have gone on about if they have enough members of the cabinet left to do this if it came to it (and if acting cabinet members were eligible to vote).

This is obviously speculation but it does make sense that Pence calling on the 25th doesn't automatically mean it would be passed as he would need a cabinet majority.

Thing is that if he attempts to do this and can't get a majority then there's nothing to keep hold over Trump as impeachment can't happen quickly enough.

So if he did do this he'd need to be damn sure he could bring it home as it were.

Also added to the mix is what's in it for him? He's got his eyes on the Presidency and in that regard I think invoking the 25th would be an absolute last resort- or Trump would have to attempt to do something so dangerous Pence didn't have a choice.

As is I think they probably feel they can contain him until the 20th...let's hope they are right.

Roussette · 11/01/2021 12:43

CaveMum Oh, it could well be !
It's all over Twitter today posted as something new, but I've been caught out like this before Blush

i would love to know what's going on in Pence's head right now. Why doesn't he invoke the 25th?

I suspect he's probably in shock right now and struggling to make sense of the sobering reality that, despite having had his tongue firmly wedged up Trump's arse for years, Trump threw him to the wolves last week.

Then there's the bigger problem of how does the Republican party navigate its way out of this shitfest? Without Trump's considerable base they lose any chance of winning any election at any level for the foreseeable future. Whether Trump's legion of supporters are cast out of the party, or whether they walk if they decide the party no longer represents them, the GOP is screwed. Yet if the party remains loyal to Trump it will lose the support of just about everyone who hasn't bought into Trump's insanity, plus the minor ethical and legal matter of remaining loyal to a man who has just attempted a coup. They are damned if they do and damned if they don't. Maybe they should have thought about that back in 2016 when they hitched their wagon to a man who made no secret of being a bullying, misogynistic, racist autocrat who is also as mad as a box of frogs.

I'm not religious but I'm seriously considering taking up prayer until they get through the inauguration. I will be very surprised if we do not see a second insurrection attempt before Trump is dragged out of the white house along with all his cronies that have been inserted into senior government positions.

Roussette · 11/01/2021 12:45

As there's talk of impeaching in 100 days time, why couldn't they try for the 25th and then resort to impeachment... but what do I know... Grin

CaveMum · 11/01/2021 12:46

@Roussette I wouldn't be surprised if he had repeated himself again, but the language is very close. Whilst I in no way want to let the giant orange twat off the hook, we (collective "we" not just here in MN) often accuse the other side of misinformation so we should be careful not to accidently do the same ourselves.

Igotjelly · 11/01/2021 12:46

Lots of places reporting the US govt is running on de facto 25th ammendment. I suspect as said above the hope is the threat of it is enough to keep Trump in line, without making him anymore of a martyr than he already is.

Mittens030869 · 11/01/2021 12:51

They didn't expect Trump to win, and didn't take him seriously enough when he stood as a Presidential candidate.

BruceAndNosh · 11/01/2021 12:52

I saw a quote complaining about how the PGA can't terminate a binding contract. So like the president can't override the binding vote of the public then?
@terrywynne Totally stealing this line , thank you!

I actually thought he was doing the whole thing for a joke in the beginning. I couldn't find any other rational explanation for him being so politically incorrect. Yet the more offensive, insulting and immature he was the more his support increased - truly mind boggling. Somebody took him seriously though - he didn't win the nomination without support from senior players within the party.

Roussette · 11/01/2021 13:10

God knows how she can make it about her?

I find it shameful that surrounding these tragic events there has been salacious gossip, unwarranted personal attacks, and false misleading accusations on me – from people who are looking to be relevant and have an agenda

And this is laughable...
It is inspiring to see that so many have found a passion and enthusiasm in participating in an election

Passion and enthusiasm = attempted coup

This is the kind of thing you would expect to hear from a cast member on TOWIE.

This is clearly just a response to perceived attacks from her staff.

TurquoiseBaubles · 11/01/2021 13:18

Bloody hell, that statement had the names of the four rioters who died before the names of the policemen Shock

The SPAG's a bit shit, especially given she'd have had a lot of help writing it.

Plus, the phrase 'It has been the honor of my lifetime to serve as ...' is yet another Obama rip-off.

Yeah, that bit is quite illuminating.

She's not as popular as she'd like to think she is. She's going to be SO written about from the 20th Jan by former staff.
