He sounds like a full on Qanon follower. The language is all there and it's terrifying that people can be pilled that hard.

Somebody upthread mentioned Sen. Joe Manchin, conservative Dem from West Virginia, being cited by Americast as one to watch. He was on Jake Tapper today (at 28 mins on the link below). Being asked questions about his policy positions from 37.5 mins. He's clearly a good bloke, but very conservative. Also at 6 mins, Rep. James Clyburn, the House majority whip, basically saying he thinks there was inside information which led the rioters to his unmarked office.

DGRossetti · 10/01/2021 16:50

On a different matter, I too lived in the area of Oxfordshire/Northants which had a lot of American servicemen in it; a lot of them drove huge cars and ignored the traffic laws, and thought the locals were beneath their notice. We didn't happen to see the racism in our village, mostly because it was exclusively white-occupied in those days, but I'm sure from the general attitude a lot of them had that it would have been present if there had ever been any occasion for it. (This is nastily judgmental of me, but honestly they didn't endear themselves much.)

Just after I graduated, - late 1980s - a friend moved into a house in an Oxfordshire village. Obligatory housewarming, and his neighbour was invited. Like I said, a tech in the USAF. Knew his radio stuff (we had all studied communication systems at Uni, so having graduated were quite intrigued). Which goes to show that the epithet "stupid" isn't quite right. But "racist" (and disgustingly misogynistic) certainly were spot on. As the beer flowed we hear in greater detail as to why certain "racial types" as he called them should not be allowed to be uhmericuhn. It was quite toe curling. But being (half, in my case) English it was all polite nods and unspoken thoughts. Worth noting that for a lot of "racists" it seems to only be their eyes that are affected. Other bodily parts - as we heard - appear to behave very differently.

That's how they get you, you know. They knock your senses out with such an outrageous display that you feel rather than challenge, it's best to keep quiet and avoid a confrontation. Me - because he wasn't my neighbour. And my friend precisely because he was his neighbour.

led the rioters to his unmarked office.

Why did I suddenly think of unmarked graves ?

Maybe

[/quote] Thanks @BlueCatRedCat, I suspect it was him they referred to on Americast - I didn’t quite catch the name at the time but he certainly fits the description. He’ll be the most popular guy in the Senate for the next 2 years!

Why did I suddenly think of unmarked graves ?

Probably not great words to use on my part! I think this is the second time I have heard this though: that some of the Representatives have a "public" office with their name on the door, and a private office with no such marker; and yet the rioters ignored the named offices and went to the anonymous ones to trash them.

A lot of thought has gone into making this video, hopefully it will be a step forward.

That was very powerful.

It would have been interesting to have changed them in the preceding hours and seen who went where then.

I dont know if I should post this, and if anyone thinks this post is bad, I'll ask MNHQ to delete.

Anyway, I decided to have a quick look at the pro trump boards, im bored and I should be cleaning. It is sure lunacy.

There are conspiracy theories galore, lots that have been mentioned on these threads.
However, my favourite (so to speak), is that the covid vaccine has been manufactured to make white men infertile. They are researching how to freeze thier sperm. The conclusion they have reached, is, its too expensive.

Maybe that's what tazer-boy was trying ? To somehow freeze his sperm ? Might also explain the Facebook group "photos pf men pointing loaded guns at their crotch" ?

Too expensive ? I dunno. Surely most of their sperm is in handy thin samples on photos of Donnie boy ? Easily stored.

Clicketyclick21 · 10/01/2021 17:34

Well if these nutcases do become infertile because of the covid vaccine then I'd say it's a bonus really! No tears shed here for less right wing neo nazis becoming infertile.

BlueCatRedCat · 10/01/2021 17:36

On Arnie's comparison of the riot to Kristallnacht.I would have thought the burning of the Reichstag might be a more suitable analogy. After the 1932 election Hitler's Nazis had the largest number of seats, but refused to form a coalition government, leaving the German parliament in limbo. President Hindenburg made Hitler Chancellor to appease him. One month later, the Reichstag was burned to the ground. Hitler blamed the communists and demanded emergency powers, using these to seize overall control of Parliament and ban other political parties. Imagine if a load of senators and representatives on Wednesday had been killed or incapacitated, and people swallowed the "Antifa did this" rhetoric of Fox News and the rest. Imagine Trump deciding he had to invoke emergency powers to maintain order and delay the Biden inauguration indefinitely. Hitler 2.0. Chilling.

I had to spend some months on the sofa because of a leg break in 2017, and spent it watching loads of stuff I had recorded over the years and failed to watch. One of the programmes was Hitler in Colour. At the time, Trump the candidate's rallies were very fresh in my mind. Watching Hitler at Nuremberg in 1933 with the sound off and subtitles on was uncannily similar to Trump at his rallies, both in the words and gestures. At the time, the comparison of Trump to Hitler was roundly rejected as hysteria. Not so much now though.

Indeed.

And I liked the way he directly compared the Proud Boys to Nazis. Calling them out for what they (and Trump) are.

I hadn't realised he didn't like to talk about his father's Nazi past (let along the domestic abuse): that makes it even more powerful.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 10/01/2021 17:47

DGRossetti
I suspect Arnie saw Trump for what he was instantly.

I think you're right; he said in 2016 that for the first time since he became a citizen he would not be voting Republican for President because he would not vote for Trump.

He also remarked that Trump's trouble was "He wants to be me."

BlueCatRedCat · 10/01/2021 17:47

Nancy Pelosi is on 60 Minutes this evening. Here's a taster:

He doesn't. It would need SCOTUS to determine he did.

The US constitution is very clever. It was deliberately written by people who had either lived through insurrection or tyranny, or had closely studied the history of nations and empires ( especially the Roman empire - all 1,500 years of it's existence) that had all endured the same.

However, it is only as strong as the people in the positions it creates to defend it. If they are weak, corrupt, criminal, or just plain evil, then they need to be removed. If they aren't (because it's "too hard") then eventually the constitution becomes meaningless.

At least one founding father was less optimistic about the US future. Jefferson felt that eventually all regimes fail and need to be renewed by violent insurrection.

And while the US constitution is very clever, it's also full of shit. Only on planet America can you condemn cruel and unusual punishments in the same breath as delivering the death penalty. It's almost as crooked as "all men are created equal" (oh, except for those funny colored ones - they're 3/5ths of a white man donchaknow).

BlueCatRedCat · 10/01/2021 18:02

He doesn't. It would need SCOTUS to determine he did.

But that's the thing though, he could very well have had SCOTUS back him up in the event of a national emergency like the death of a large number of people in high office and question marks over the culprits. Like you say, the Constitution is only as good as the people enforcing it. I think everyone was very pleasantly surprised "his" SC justices didn't back him up on his election challenges, but this could have been a whole different ball game. Anyway, Poundland Hitler failed, thank God.

On the SCOTUS issue, do you think the Dems will try to appoint extra judges to make up for the "stolen" picks?

DGRossetti · 10/01/2021 18:08

Don't see they can - it's 9 by statute and they're in for life.

That's one reason why they may not be so Trumpy as people assume. After all, what can he - or indeed anyone - do about it now ? He might whinge about it, but that's it.

I know House of Cards had a Supreme being eased out though. And since we passed that fiction (along with Homeland) ages ago, who knows ?

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 10/01/2021 18:16

Just one thing about Arnie's video: you don't temper a sword to make it harder. You temper it to make it more flexible. If it is too hard it becomes brittle and will then shatter in combat. So the way it's done is bash it to harden it, then temper it to soften it again.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 10/01/2021 18:43

Thanks, Perking; that's reassuring. Well, sort of. Not just me is comforting, they're having problems isn't really...

Arnold Schwarzenegger, former Governor of California and Republican wishes President-elect Biden nothing but success.

These are strange and surreal days.
