Just that really. I neither like nor dislike him I don't feel any emotion towards him.
AIBU to ask why so many people on here hate/dislike Boris Johnson?

It honestly baffles me that there are adults in the UK who have so little interest in the world around them. You don't even agree and dislike him but this thread reads like 'who is Boris Johnson?'

Tearsfortiers · 08/01/2021 16:04

Why does everyone just call him by his first name? I can't think of that happening with any other prime ministers. "Boris" makes him sound like a benign, well meaning Uncle who's trying his best and not the unprincipled, incompetent schemer that he is

Chanjer · 08/01/2021 16:05

It's because he's a cunt

RandomLondoner · 08/01/2021 16:06

I came to the UK as a young adult in 1987. I'm not sure there has ever been a prime minister (or government) that has not been vitriolically and very vocally despised by a large group of people. It's just the way politics and public life is in the UK.

(I reckon John Major was probably the least-hated, people settled for making fun of him. David Cameron second. Blair might have been a contender for the least-hated prize, if not for Iraq.)

..mners hate him because he pushed brexit through among other reasons, me ? i don't follow the crowd, i have my own opinions on things.

TheBuffster · 08/01/2021 16:11

Just out of curiosity OP have you voted in either the referendum or elections recently?
Just interested.

AlexaShutUp · 08/01/2021 16:13

The vocal Boris haters on mumsnet don't like anyone Conservative. He just happens to be their leader so is the current target of their venom. They would find fault with whoever was in charge.

I disagree with all Tories, because I am not a Tory, but I certainly don't hate them all. I didn't hate Theresa May, for example. I thought she was wrong about many things, and I was deeply frustrated by some of her actions/decisions, but I also recognise that she was motivated by a genuine commitment to public service and doing the right thing, even if we didn't agree on what that right thing might be. Same with my previous Tory constituency MP. I disagreed with her on many things (not all) but am happy to acknowledge that she worked hard as a constituency MP and wrote to express my support for her when she started receiving death threats etc.

I might struggle to identify any Tories who I particularly like, as their values are fundamentally different to mine. However, I certainly don't hate all of them, and I accept that some are motivated by a genuine desire to do what they think is right. I can respect that, even if I don't agree with them about what "right" might look like.

Boris is motivated by a genuine desire to benefit himself, with little heed for anyone or anything else. I'm afraid I'm unable to find any respect for this.

What everyone else said

And cause he's a fanny

IsabellaMozzarella · 08/01/2021 16:14

Have a Google of articles he's written in the past. I cannot stand him and his views.

Lol. You don’t know people personally or their voting history.
Samcro · 08/01/2021 16:16

@tilder

Because he's a lying, egotistical, priveleged twat who has no morals or understanding of life for the majority. Can't be trusted.
what they said
ilovesooty · 08/01/2021 16:16

@skidadle

How on earth did he get to be prime minister then??
Is that a serious question?
plg21 · 08/01/2021 16:16

I voted Conservative, and by extension, for Boris. He's not without some qualities but, watching PMQs each week, he is full of blustering bull*t at times. A lot of rhetoric and not much answering the question asked.
He managed to get the Brexit negotiations over the line which May didn't and has overseen the purchase of a large number of vaccines for the UK. But I don't think he's the right leader in the pandemic, I'd happily lose the hyperbolic speeches in favour of a clear and consistent plan (albeit I appreciate that the pandemic has been difficult for most leaders to navigate).

Oh, what tosh. I liked plenty of Conservative MPs before Johnson kicked them out for not being nodding yes men. I know plenty of Conservaative voters in real life who are very decent people. Johnson is a charlatan. He is your worst leader for years, by far.

TheBuffster · 08/01/2021 16:20

Not sure either but as remain was pretty much a neutral action ( i.e nothing would happen) was probably the best decision.
But you probably should inform yourself politically if you are going to vote.
I'd recommend doing your own research rather than others opinions or even newspapers as they're biased.
At the same time I am quite envious as being politically aware and essentially powerless has made me very angry and bitter these past few years.
So err carry on lol.

foodtoorder · 08/01/2021 16:23

All these reasons to dislike Boris have all been said about any prime minister. No one will ever be good enough or do a good enough job.

skidadle · 08/01/2021 16:24

@TheBuffster I honestly have been so busy looking after my children this past year I have had no time for anything. I really do want to educate myself more on politics etc, so I am most defiantly going to do my research. When I get the time!!

@skidadle

How on earth did he get to be prime minister then??
Presumably because of who would have been pm if not him! If Keir Starmer had been the Labour leader things might have been different, but unfortunately Jeremy Corbyn was leader, at the time of the General Election. This left the electorate with the choice of whether they trusted Boris or Corbyn, with the resounding choice being Boris!

To be honest, given the choice, Boris was the lesser of the two evils! The Labour MP’s didn’t want Corbyn as their leader but, although he lost a Vote of Confidence by 197-40, he was the choice of the Labour Party Membership, so was allowed to continue as Leader, despite the majority of his party’s MP’s being unhappy with this.

The public showed exactly how little they trusted Corbyn and his cronies, during the next General Election. Labour were reduced to 202 seats, their lowest number since 1935. On the other hand the Conservatives made a net gain of 48 seats, giving them a landslide majority of 80 seats and won 43.6% of the votes, the highest percentage by any party since the 1979 General Election, when Margaret Thatcher ousted the Labour Government led by James Callaghan.

IntermittentParps · 08/01/2021 16:25

How on earth did he get to be prime minister then??
Because Londoners in their wisdom* voted him in as Mayor (not once but twice) because it seemed like a laugh. He was just a mostly harmless buffoon then, or so people thought.
I said at the time that it was a dangerous move and that he was the Tory it was OK to like even if you didn't like the Tories; a Trojan horse.
It turned out I was right.

*I'm in London but no, I did not vote for him

sashagabadon · 08/01/2021 16:25

I agree he is not the best leader for a pandemic although he might well turn it around now with the vaccine roll out. I do think he might be a good leader for the a post pandemic U.K. as he does have a can do/ glass half full out look on life.

HOkieCOkie · 08/01/2021 16:25

I don’t hate him. He’s got a horrible job, he’s damned if he does and damned if he doesn’t.
