I think the silver lining in all this is that Trump (and his family) are surely finished as a political force after this?

Something I think wouldn't have happened otherwise.

The incitement of violence against democracy was a massive overstep and in-spite of his fan base I can't see the GOP putting themselves in the thrall of Trumpism again (at least by a Trump - though I'm sure we'll see candidates jockeying to pitch themselves as his "political heir").

The article above about Jared and Ivanka is very telling. People just don't want to be associated with them - the stench is just too strong.

So I'll bet Trump will try and pardon himself and members of his family but I'd also bet that prosecutors in NYC will be even more fired up to prosecute him under state law than they ever were.

Or more ominously there was a gallows complete with noose erected on the lawn.

They are also a really quick way to lock double doors.

Asking questions is not the problem.

Phew. (wipes forehead)

I don't think the Trump video is doctored.

However Trump is very "doctored", both medically and visually.
Someone made sure he was wearing a decent fitting suit for once, (and put restraints in his sleeves to limit his arm movements! ) He's also not wearing his usual aggressive trademark red tie, but instead a nice happy pastel one. Still wearing make up but slightly less orange than usual.

Then they ruined it all by filming it in the same room used for the hilarious Tiny Desk speech

[/quote] Very early on I saw suggestions that the DoD were reluctant to deploy troops as once deployed they fall under POTUS command.

I really can't be arsed to check, but it does ring a vague bell that POTUS has command of the military "once deployed".

The CEO of a large data firm arrested.

His apology is beyond pathetic. I found myself going through a large set of doors, I wanted to have a look inside and see what was going on.
Hahahaha... obviously sleepwalking at the time then. His feet weren't attached to his body or his brain.
He's been put on leave by his company. Trying to save his skin quite obviously.

I don't think it's doctored either. I think it's simply a ruse to buy him more time. Anyone who thinks that he has given up on his ambitions and decided to wind his neck in hasn't been paying attention.

We have just witnessed a failed coup attempt that could have neutralised anyone capable of preventing Trump taking absolute control. To think there will not be a second attempt is wishful naivety. It could be an interesting Inauguration day.

No idea but here's what his company have said

Cogensia
@Cogensia
Our CEO, Brad Rukstales' participated in the recent Washington DC protests. Those actions were his own and not acting on behalf Cogensia nor do his actions in any way reflect the policies or values of our firm. He has been placed on leave of absence while we assess further.

You don’t just rock up and enter the Capitol building... it’s like assuming you walk into Parliament or Buckingham palace off the street.

Re: the pardons. Firstly a pardon is a bit of a clue that you have done something illegal and the pardon can only apply to federal crimes/courts.

There are plenty of charges in state courts just waiting for his presidential exemption to run out.

lionheart · 08/01/2021 14:15

Or maybe ex-Trumpies.

user1471565182 · 08/01/2021 14:15

Dont know about anybody else but im getting really, really fed up of the 'oh we musnt do that, we cant say that, we cant apply that law, it'l make them a matyr' shit. Neville Chamberlain would have been proud. If these protective processes had been used to their full potential years ago we wouldnt be dealing with this fascist shit.

Yeah, someone needs sacking. I'd have had that down long before a foreign irritant with a penchant for bacon sandwiches and Roman history could screengrab it for unspecified purposes.

Now there is a tussle for the courts of contract law. What action could a company take against a customer who breached a contract on the basis that the company had misrepresented themselves via their "mission statement" ?

My guess is that a court would rule that "mission statements" are complete and utter horseshit (much like political promises) and you're bound by the small print. (It's entirely possible such a ruling exists ..).

I rather like the idea of being able to refute a companies corporate bullshit as such, with a nice judge backing me up.
