@PerkingFaintly that’s a great analogy. And kudos on having great taste in TV Wink

TheNorthWestPawsage · 07/01/2021 22:25

I don't know the "Buffy" stories in any detail Perking but I hope LG has a lifetime of sleepless nights, keeping at least one eye open on those dark shadowy corners.

TheNorthWestPawsage · 07/01/2021 22:28

McNinny's press conference speech was rattled through like an express train. She looked a tad rough round the edges and definitely didn't want to be there. No questions taken. Her bubble has burst I think.

DuncinToffee · 07/01/2021 22:29

Michelle Obama's statement reads exactly like the emotions on theses threads since last night.

We were settling in for the Georgia elections, celebrating Warnock's victory and then it all changed.

dreamingbohemian · 07/01/2021 22:31

It's pretty well accepted in DC that Lindsay Graham's behaviour these past years is due to his being blackmailed over his sexuality.

Soopermum1 · 07/01/2021 22:34

Here she is. Insincere and completely reading from a script. They should have just issued it as a press release

ListeningQuietly · 07/01/2021 22:35

Frank Zappa had the measure of Lindsay Graham's dad Grin

PerkingFaintly · 07/01/2021 22:35

Buffy is my great guide to life. Along with Jane Austen, obviously.Grin

So, once bitten, a lifetime of sleepless nights and no soul: check.

Also: "You're not looking at your friend, you're looking at the thing that killed your friend," has long summed up what I think of Trump and the office of the President of the United States of America. And indeed what I think of coup-supporting Republicans.

Doowninthedumps · 07/01/2021 22:36

Just a thank you to everyone contributing factual and well reasoned stuff to these threads.

I understand the difference between the response to BLM and yesterdays mob is something that people will be talking about (and rightly so!) for some time, but I for one think it's a miracle that so few people were actually hurt!

I'm always a bit baffled by the "some people are too stupid to vote" brigade because they clearly don't understand that sort of thinking leads to "lets keep people stupid so they can't vote"

Still shocked to think that in the last 24hrs democracy in America has died due to a few power hungry and poor excuses for politicians.

Whatever happens next it's a rather worrying time for our neighbours across the pond.

SunniCameHomeWithAVengeance · 07/01/2021 22:48

McNinny looks like shes been crying. Probably exhaustion from trying to think of ways to make Trump look good.

mathanxiety · 07/01/2021 22:58

@Coquohvan, are you referring to the numerous cases of white militias lining routes of BLM marches, armed to the teeth with AK47s, etc?

Or are you trying to argue that BLM marchers themselves came armed?
Or to argue that it's not legal for black Americans to bear arms?

What sort of motivation do you imagine a group calling itself the 'National Association for Awakening Confederate Patriots' has to be present at a BLM march?

Roussette · 07/01/2021 22:59

Soopermum thanks for the link.
Gosh.
She looks a bit ropey compared to her normal polished and groomed look. I know it's wrong to criticise her like this, I can't help it, she has lied continually whilst promising to tell the truth and she makes me very angry.
She just couldn't help herself could she?
Bringing up the BLM protests and the church (where the protestors were tear gassed but the church was set on fire). It bears no comparison to yesterday

But when economists (these are the experts he was referring to) start hypothesising that the sky will fall on our heads the day after we vote for Brexit or also back in 2008 were saying that property was a great investment (they were also saying the same thing back in 1990 just before that crash) then you do need to stop and consider just how much reliance should be placed on their forecasts as they are, more often than not, wrong

Most of that is pure hyperbole and the rest is plain, simple untruths.

BruceAndNosh · 07/01/2021 23:00

McNinny has managed to cultivate 3 months of dark roots in a week, she looked and acted like she'd just been yanked out of bed, given a line of cocaine and had a script thrust into her hand that she didn't even glance at before reading.

CaveMum · 07/01/2021 23:01

@PerkingFaintly I’m with you - Buffy and The West Wing are pretty much my go tos. I want to be both Buffy and CJ when I grow up!

Roussette · 07/01/2021 23:02

Jim Acosta
@Acosta
At past briefings, McEnany used monitors to show images of violence from protests over the summer. But at this briefing, she stood alone at the podium. No Trump rioters on screens behind her.

@RedToothBrush

Of course they will try it again for the inauguration.

Its going to be awful.

They are just going to crow that there were bigger crowds at his... 🙄
BruceAndNosh · 07/01/2021 23:03

If I were a reporter, I'd be annoyed to schlep up to the White House, wait in a briefing room, then get 2 minutes propaganda with nary a question

Roussette · 07/01/2021 23:04

Thank you Bruce. You said what I was too wimpy to say! Greasy roots, too thick false eyelashes so she looked like she'd been give two black eyes, a complete mess.
I wonder if we will see her ever again?

Yohoheaveho · 07/01/2021 23:05

McNinny
I thought her demeanor was a combination of righteousness and 'poor me', but I had to turn her off after 9 seconds so perhaps that wasnt a long enough sample?

mathanxiety · 07/01/2021 23:11

I think Trump is hoping to be declared insane, don't forget theres a queue of criminal cases waiting for him

There is a difference between being declared insane (this isn't a thing, btw) and being found 'unfit for office'. Trump could be found unfit for office for a great many reasons.

mathanxiety · 07/01/2021 23:12

Congress can nominate another authority to stand in for the purposes of proceeding with the 25th if there isn't a quora of Cabinet members available.

AcrossthePond55 · 07/01/2021 23:14

@PerkingFaintly

Graham's sexuality is one of DC's worst kept secrets. Everybody knows, but nobody says a word.

What was it they used to call men like Graham in the South back in the day? Ah yes, "confirmed bachelors".

CaveMum · 07/01/2021 23:19

Just listening to the BBC podcast “Americast” from last night. Highly recommend it if you haven’t heard it yet.
