@MedusasBadHairDay

There were some interesting choices of flags on show weren't there? Obviously a whole load of Confederate ones, some were clearly Qanon symbols/memes, but I saw some I didn't recognise. Eg. One of a white square with red around it.

Gut reaction is it's probably something to do with either qanon or white supremacy. Tbh I wouldn't have been surprised to see white hoods in amongst all of the MAGA hats.

Was it this flag? 🇬🇪

Aka the flag of Georgia the country - the difference to Georgia the US state having escaped some of the rioters Confused

Coquohvan · 07/01/2021 17:01

Recall George Floyd matches were attended by people with guns some had machines guns in plain sight. Didn’t see guns on show yesterday, though not 100% sure there weren’t any given, DC gun laws are stricter.

dreamingbohemian · 07/01/2021 17:01

DC police announcing they're going to put a 7 foot wall around the Capitol for at least 30 days.

That's exactly what they should have done before yesterday! Sheer incompetence.

DGRossetti · 07/01/2021 17:03

I would be astounded if there weren't some protesters arriving in Washington state wondering where the Capitol is.

Remember Four Seasons ?
@DGRossetti
I have to point out that Boris Johnson read Classics!
Not everyone learns from their studies.
Or maybe they learn, just not what you want them to learn. Classics can teach anyone who feels so inclined how to become a selfish, grasping tyrant, and give pointers on how to avoid it all coming to a messy end (stash the ill gotten gains somewhere safe abroad and leave before the mob/Praetorian guard catches on).

DuncinToffee · 07/01/2021 17:04

@DGRossetti

People have been crushed to death because of closed gates and fences so I take damage to property over loss of lives.

Not quite sure I get what you mean there ? But I'm happy to restate my position. Life over property. Every single time. No ifs. No buts.

Sorry, I was referrring to posts that said the police were opening gates to let the protestors through.

I agree with your position, life over property, every time.

Roussette · 07/01/2021 17:05

If this doesn't raise anyone's blood pressure I don't know what will...

The whole of the Trump family, including Donald and kimberley, watching on TV, and partying whilst watching what went on yesterday.

Disgusting family

@Wherrsmaclickypen

Even here we are seemingly giving all these lunatics the courtesy of explaining away their radicalisation and culpability and how we all got here, and rationalising it as an aberration, a courtesy not seen much with e.g. Islamic fundamentalists. Surely its a much baser fundamental human fallibility of learned behaviour, actions and consequences? Toddler Trump got away with appalling conduct all along the line without reprisal and his supporters expect no less.
I agree with you completely and have never said anything less. I've been mocked for my firm belief that Trump was a disaster from the start, not just for the US but for the world. He has not been a joke. MAGgots are a credible force in the US, to which he is pandering and whom he is calling to arms. He is and always has been, an internal threat to the US, should have been done for sedition or treason many moons ago. Fuck me, I'm furious. It's been staring everyone in the face for years and only recently would people "in power" take it on and actually call the lunatic out.

Haha, while I wouldn't put it past them it wasn't that one. It was literally a white square with a red border around it, nothing else on it.

dreamingbohemian · 07/01/2021 17:07

Now Schumer (new Senate majority leader) saying if the 25th is not invoked today, they will start impeachment proceedings tomorrow.

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 07/01/2021 17:08

Sorry - and even then, only hesitantly, so much is the person of the President tied up with the Office of the President, so that people feel that by criticising the incumbent, they are being treacherous to the Office and thereby to their country.

Will that get off the ground?

Wow! Shortly after acting DHS Sec. Chad Wolf publicly called on Trump to condemn yesterday's violence, Trump fires him!

We need the #25thAmendment now!!!!

DuncinToffee · 07/01/2021 17:15

Lewis Goodall

Chief Robert Conte of the DC Police says that only one of those arrested for yesterday’s violence was from the DC area itself.
4 people died, 68 arrested

Roussette · 07/01/2021 17:15

Duncin yes. And Kimberley screaming 'fight' is somewhat of an error....

To be fair it might well be before the Rally, who knows, but it is a Rally that is being held whilst the new Presidency is being certified. No excuse

OP posts:
MayYouLiveInInterestingTimes · 07/01/2021 17:15

Just caught up. It is really disturbing to read of people trying to excuse last night's scenes. This was not a protest. They had explosive devices. They aimed to use them. They aimed to overthrow a perfectly legitimate election which probably ranks as the most checked in history by violence. There's no getting around that.

As for 'disenfranchisement' being an excuse for planting bombs, what does that mean? Does it involve economics or ethics? We all know life has got economically harder for everyone, planting bombs to put some very rich person of landed family in power is not going to stop it. If what the protesters really want is to enslave either or both women an blacks again to make themselves richer to the point where they will plant bombs that is not coming from a place of 'disenfranchisement' but of a typical and very old attitude of arrogant male domination.

dreamingbohemian · 07/01/2021 17:20

Will that get off the ground?

Hard to say but even Republican congressmen are calling for the 25th.

I think yesterday they finally saw what they've unleashed and it's in their own interests to try to kill it.

Too late, I think.

They thought they could ride the dragon.

I can't recommend this www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m00084tb/rise-of-the-nazis-series-1-1-politics enough. It's upsetting how you really just need to change names - the story is pretty much contemporary.

It was probably missing a black swastika

Furries · 07/01/2021 17:24

Definitely think that footage was before the rally - looked like the tv showed the crowds waiting in front of the stage. Plus the “T minus x minutes” comment probably re when Trump was due to go and speak.

Still absolutely disgusting, and yet more footage of using fighting talk.

I remember the counter protesters at the blm protests being very heavily armed, yes.

Interesting narrative being peddled by some about the woman that was shot ... apparently how else are the "disenfranchised" meant to make themselves heard ?

People seem to think that "being enfranchised"="getting what you want every time"

Roussette · 07/01/2021 17:27

Also...

'The FBI is setting up a website. It will contain the pictures of everyone who breached the capital yesterday.
The FBI is asking for the public’s help in identifying these people.'

It will be on Twitter.
