My fiancé wants to call our “hypothetical” son Roland.

I think it’s a horribly old fashioned name that will cause him to be bullied.

He thinks it’s ridiculously cool and is gutted that I hate it.

Who is being unreasonable?

Avogato

I adore Marc

ktp100 · 06/01/2021 23:18

Roland is pretty vile.

Make me think of Roland Rat and that girl in Grange Hill who used to say Roland Browning's name as 'Roll-And'.

Just no.

SalemsPot22 · 06/01/2021 23:21

My fiancé also says it “Row-LAND” because he is a twat.

Roland isn’t great, but I like Raymond, Ray for short.

Ellie56 · 06/01/2021 23:23

No. Just no. They are both awful names.

BlackeyedSusan · 06/01/2021 23:24

veto applied here too. which is why dc are not called by any of my favourite names... nor ex's favourite names.

WhatKatyDidNxt · 06/01/2021 23:24

It’s grim. Are you sure he wasn’t joking?! I now want to ask where Kevin the gerbil is

AnnaSW1 · 06/01/2021 23:24

I'm with you

Enidblyton1 · 06/01/2021 23:29

Roly Poly - not a good name if you’re a little overweight.
Otherwise I don’t really think it’s that bad. Prefer it to Raymond!

CloseSchoolsProtecttheNHS · 06/01/2021 23:35

Row-LAND?! It's not pronounced like that so it'll just drive him crazy.

The other problem is that the nickname will be 'Roly' which is ok unless the child is a bit overweight, then it's tough.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 06/01/2021 23:35

Raymond isnt too bad. Roland is beyond awful. I hope he wouldn't want to name another daughter Rolanda.Grin

ArosAdraDrosDolig · 06/01/2021 23:36

I had a hamster called Roland when I was younger.

Happymum12345 · 06/01/2021 23:39

I loved Roland Rat-Rat Fans! And Kevin the Gerbil!

Whatthebloodyell · 06/01/2021 23:41

I much prefer Roland to Raymond.

Robbybobtail · 06/01/2021 23:42

Anyone remember “Rat-rapping”? I’m sure it went to no.1!

Myneighboursnorlax · 06/01/2021 23:44

If he likes the nickname Roly, have either of you considered Errol?

BorderlineHappy · 06/01/2021 23:44

Can i ask @SalemsPot22 what are your dds names. And maybe we can give some suggestions.

Thedarknightsaredrawingin · 06/01/2021 23:51

Row Land is even worse!
Roland rat!
It’s grim.

Ironmanrocks · 06/01/2021 23:51

I don't like it much as I also tend to think of Roland from Grange Hill BUT I think you are forgetting that none of his peers will remember that OR Roland Rat. He won't get teased for those reasons!!! (It will just because its a rubbish name!) Grin

MustardMitt · 06/01/2021 23:53

Neither is unreasonable apart from him as both names are horrible Grin

SquirtleSquad · 06/01/2021 23:58

I think of Roland from Sabrina the teenage witch who was really mean. It's a no from me.

SalemsPot22 · 06/01/2021 23:59

Daughters are Amelie and Noelle

OP posts:
TinaAnglewood · 07/01/2021 00:06

It’s an 80s name. Makes me think of Roland Rat, Roland synthesisers, Roland Orzabal, Ro(w)land Rivron,.... all 1980s !

Katypyee · 07/01/2021 00:08

I think of Roland Rat or Ro-land from Grange Hill. Perhaps Ray would be a compromise?

Chambored · 07/01/2021 00:11

No to Roland or Raymond.
But maybe he secretly hopes you have boy twins and so can use both names!!
