Why do people continue to talk about him as if he was their mate?
Has he really succeeded in fooling so many?
It makes me cringe everytime people say it.

Lets see what Boris says
I'd like to meet up but it depends on Boris

on and on it goes.
The man is an embarassment.

I call him the greatest prime minister we’ve had since Churchill in our house, And also that other bloke is known as wan-kier........ I wish he was my mate. If I ever had a lad I’d call him boris .

LochDooner69 · 05/01/2021 14:33

-B'coz he's a LEGEND!!!!!!!!

-Single-handedly saved the NHS, Briton and world.

-Always tells the truth and has never told one false lie ever in his whole life !!!!!!!!!!

-Straight forward, does wot he says, logical, consisstant. Really good bloke I'd trust with my blind, disabled, sickly grandma.

Can we really say the same for you, eh madam??????? wot have you acheived that makes ya so perfect?????

RubyViolet · 05/01/2021 14:34

@BarryGlendenning

But it isn't his name, it's a brand he created!
Brand Boris stock is falling.
DefrostingBuble · 05/01/2021 14:35

I call him Bozza, is that acceptable?!

RubyViolet · 05/01/2021 14:36

@crystaltips98

They used to call Saddam Hussein just Saddam.
😂😂😂😂 👍
Viviennemary · 05/01/2021 14:36

I'm guilty of this. I expect he's cultivated this bestie friends with everyone.

Haffiana · 05/01/2021 14:36

'Boris' is short for 'Boris Johnson is a Fucking Cunt'.

It is just a bit easier to say or to type than the full name.

Seeingadistance · 05/01/2021 14:37

As pps have already mentioned, in Scotland we have Nicola.

I’m not going to check, but at a guess I’d say there are more Nicolas than there are Sturgeons in Scotland. Or it could be equally balanced given that the only other Sturgeon I knew was also called Nicola!

It’s not about approval or friendship or whatever ... It’s her name, and Boris is his.

LadyLindaT · 05/01/2021 14:38

I am so, so sorry, but I just keep being reminded of Fenton.

Elfinghecking · 05/01/2021 14:39

I called him by his first name out of a lack of respect.

Blackberrycream · 05/01/2021 14:39

I noticed this at the last election: Boris and Jeremy. If anyone being interviewed referred to to them by their first name they were usually doing it in a weird, chummy and non critical way. Gordon, Tony, David and Theresa sounds ridiculous but then again neither of them had the strange, personality cult followers. It seems to mirror the sad state of politics in the last while.
Boris now seems to have been adopted by his haters as well as his fan club.

Buddytheelf85 · 05/01/2021 14:39

‘Boris’ for me resonates the chumminess and fondness of his buffoonery and buying into the brand ‘character’ - plus it’s what he wants you to call him

Exactly. I agree with the OP. Calling him ‘Boris’ makes him seem more benign, that’s why he wants people to do it. The loveable buffoon with the silly name. So well-known and notorious we can refer to him by his first name only.

marshmallowfluffy · 05/01/2021 14:40

People use Donald to mean Trump.
Boris is an unusual name in the UK. I can only think of Becker and Yeltsin really.
People use Carrie rather than Carrie Symmonds and use first names for other cabinet ministers like Rishi, Gavin and Priti.
The only other famous Theresa I can think of is Mother Teresa but I generally say May as it's quicker and James May obviously isn't in politics.
Matt Hancock signs official letters as Matt. That's taking the piss

ScrambledSmegs · 05/01/2021 14:42

YABU because this man is Johnson, and I would much prefer him to be PM.

to cringe at people who talk about "Boris"
ancientgran · 05/01/2021 14:43

Maybe they don't have any respect for him, Mr Johnson would by more respectful.

AwaAnBileYerHeid · 05/01/2021 14:44

"I agree with you, it's so annoying. People never used to refer to DC as just David, or TB as Tony."

Because there are loads of David's and Tony's out there. 'Aw David said there might be more strict measures being put in place soon'. Ummm...David who..? Whereas replace David with Boris - everyone would instantly know who you meant.

Mittens030869 · 05/01/2021 14:45

We all used to call Margaret Thatcher ‘Maggie’ back in the day, this is no different.

Although I often refer to Boris as BoJo.

ScrambledSmegs · 05/01/2021 14:47

Also, we now consider 'Boris' synonymous with 'shitshow'. As in, "that completely foreseeable u-turn on schools was a total Boris, wasn't it?"

mymadpuppy · 05/01/2021 14:47

Its nothing to do with it being his name. All prime minister's had names but we didn't refer to them by their first name. Its got to the point where people will forget his sir name. Maybe because "Boris" is an unusual first name?

oakleaffy · 05/01/2021 14:47

Bo Jo.

Sounds like a minor sex act.

user1497207191 · 05/01/2021 14:47

Boris marketed himself as a lovable buffoon. That may have endeared him to people, but it's left him with a pretty ridiculous persona that people don't take seriously. At times of crisis (Covid and Brexit) we needed a serious states(wo)man to run the country.

Agreed. He is like everyone's dotty Uncle.

People don’t show respect by only using his first name. I approve. He doesn’t deserve respect.
Justcallmebebes · 05/01/2021 14:50

His name's not Boris, it's Alexander

FatCatThinCat · 05/01/2021 14:51

I call him De Piffle.
