Why do people continue to talk about him as if he was their mate?
Has he really succeeded in fooling so many?
It makes me cringe everytime people say it.

Lets see what Boris says
I'd like to meet up but it depends on Boris

on and on it goes.
The man is an embarassment.

OP posts:
Whenwillow · 05/01/2021 14:01

Irritates the hell out of me for all the reasons you describe @randomer
I call him by his full name if I must, or 'our prime minister'.
It really grates.
It interests me that some posters see using his nickname as a mark of disrespect. I hadn't thought of it that way but it does make sense.

LobotheBotanist · 05/01/2021 14:01

It’s not because he’s a mate, it’s because as a name it’s more unique than “Johnson”

I think

UniversalFlangeAdaptor · 05/01/2021 14:02

YABU, as pp said, it's to avoid using a string of expletives. I refer to him by first name as I would a cartoon character, which is basically what he is.

WhentheDealGoesDown1 · 05/01/2021 14:03

I call him Boris and I call the Keir Starmer Keir, I wouldn't call Tony Blair Tony though, it depends how common the name is.

Apollo3 · 05/01/2021 14:03

FFS, OP, it's a measure of disrespect, not that he's your friend.
Cringing for you.

IfTheSockFits · 05/01/2021 14:04

He's been known as just Boris for a long time before he became PM. Can't see what the issue is.

blueangel19 · 05/01/2021 14:04

Cringe all you want. Who cares?

Whenwillow · 05/01/2021 14:05

To be fair, I don't think Boris Johnson sees people using 'Boris' as a mark of disrespect, even if we do. He does think it makes him 'one of us'.
Knob!!

Positivevibesonlyplease · 05/01/2021 14:07

@ChwistmasTwee

I agree with you, it's so annoying. People never used to refer to DC as just David, or TB as Tony.
No, they used to say Cameron and Blair. The whole point is these names are easily identifiable. Really not an issue IMO, YABU.
CreamFirstThenJamOnTop · 05/01/2021 14:08

I do it with disdain my voice and with total disrespect. I couldn’t bring myself to call him anything formal as it feels that I’m respecting him, whereas I think it’s appalling he is in office.

MyHeroMakkaPakka · 05/01/2021 14:10

We call him Uncle Boris in our house

butterpuffed · 05/01/2021 14:11

The man is an embarassment.

Of course he's an embarrassment, OP, but I don't see why calling him by his Christian name makes him more so Hmm

SirGawain · 05/01/2021 14:15

@ChwistmasTwee

True but there are rather more David’s and Tony’s to get confused with.
crystaltips98 · 05/01/2021 14:15

They used to call Saddam Hussein just Saddam.

blalalala · 05/01/2021 14:15

I refer to him as Mr Johnson. Respect for the office not the person, because he probably would prefer me to use the name and pretend to be his supporter, and most importantly as I have an ancestor called Boris, whose memory I cherish.

grapewine · 05/01/2021 14:15

@Fieldofyellowflowers

I call him Bojo. Makes him sound like a clown. Which he is.
This. But YANBU, OP
mrsm43s · 05/01/2021 14:18

We call him BJ in our house. My poor DH has had his hopes erroneously raised many a time over the last 9 months. It was quite a disappointment for him when he realised what I meant by "BJ's on at 8pm tonight" yesterday...

Nia18 · 05/01/2021 14:19

We call him 'he who must not be named' in our house 🤪

HollowTalk · 05/01/2021 14:19

Has anyone else been here long enough to remember Riven, and her meeting with David Cameron? There were a couple of people on the threads who definitely knew him.

Mummyoflittledragon · 05/01/2021 14:26

I call him Bozo. Like Bozo the clown. Or the wanker.

to cringe at people who talk about "Boris"
Grendalsmum · 05/01/2021 14:27

We are quite a formal household and he's That Fat Wanker as far as l'm concerned

AuraofDora · 05/01/2021 14:28

Agree OP
Though I like the suggestion of repurposing it as suggested early on in thread

It’s Johnson, or Johnson the fucking Clown or Fucko the Clown as ‘Boris’ for me resonates the chumminess and fondness of his buffoonery and buying into the brand ‘character’ - plus it’s what he wants you to call him
Therese May was Therese May or May not
Cameron was ‘call me Dave’
Blair was Bliar
Thatcher was Maggie, out out out she styled herself Margaret

SophieDahling · 05/01/2021 14:30

It’s an unusual name. If you say Boris, everyone knows who you mean. They’re not likely to think you mean Boris Becker.

WhatTiggersDoBest · 05/01/2021 14:31

I mean if you want to waste six extra syllables saying "Prime Minister Boris Johnson" every time, like those Americans who call every world leader "President [name]", no one is stopping you. Personally I have better things to do. Hmm

wowfudge · 05/01/2021 14:31

Who cares really? We all know who Boris is as it's such an unusual name. Very few people would say he was their mate though.
