Just listening to her statement to the Scottish Parliament. I don’t want to debate her wider politics or the question of Scottish independence because that’s for the Scots to decide.
I’m just so impressed by her leadership and how clear and concise she is. There’s no waffle, no bluster. She’s just said Scotland is 4wks behind London so the time to act is now before they’re in the same position.

Her manner is just so factual and informative and if I was Scottish or lived in Scotland whether I agreed with her SNP politics or not, I’d be very glad she was my FM. She makes BJ look like an uneducated idiot who is neither responsible nor has the balls to take decisions before the effects are smacking him on the face.

Also, I might think she was a contender if she was an MP but she isn't even voted in by the public is she?

Of course she is. She is MSP for Glasgow Southside.

The level of ignorance about politics in the UK is frightening.

NellyJames · 04/01/2021 15:12

@Nosenseofhumour, what???? Confused

What Krankies comment have I made? Or do you mean my comment that such comments are childish? Hmm

I find her style of public speaking very condescending

NellyJames · 04/01/2021 15:13

Oh and as for contributing a meaningful comment; doesn’t my OP count as that? Hmm

I'd hate to see Sturgeon in charge of the UK. Her PR and spin team are the best in the business, that's for sure, but that doesn't make a good leader. She is in a very easy position, blaming the UK govt for anything that is bad whilst taking the credit for anything good.

The scary thing is, people seem to prefer charisma to ability. Usually that doesn't end well, just ask the victims of the nationalist regime in 1930s Germany.

dementedma · 04/01/2021 15:14

She speaks clearly, yes. That goes in her favour

LouScot · 04/01/2021 15:16

I'm Scottish, vote SNP so often feel out of place here Confused. I think she's certainly communicating well, and am thankful others who don't share my political views can acknowledge this and appreciate that she's doing her very best for the well being of Scotland as a whole. I was chatting with a friend on the phone last night to say how much I hated the Krankies reference and "wee nippy", which seems a particularly nasty, misogynistic insult.

LouScot · 04/01/2021 15:20

@NellyJames - the Krankies were a not very funny Scottish "comedy" act - people claim NS looks like one of them and use it as an insult - don't worry I don't think it was anything you said.

If people want to criticise someone on policy or behaviour fair enough, but I'm fed up with us judging people on their looks.

nexus63 · 04/01/2021 15:21

i am scottish and an snp voter but regardless of that i like the fact that nippy nicola or the sturgeonator as she has been called is clear about what we have to do, i hate listening to bj as he just seems to bumble and do the poor me act.....a few months ago a scottish comedian did a voice over telling people to stay in the hoose and if she caught you ootside without a good reason she would put her toe up yer arse....if you want a laugh look up youtube, stay safe xx

I would love for her to be in charge here, Boris Johnson and our hopeless Tory MP who hangs on his every word are doing nothing but making the situation worse with repeated, ineffective measures.

I vote Labour as the lesser of two evils, but it's not ideal.

NellyJames · 04/01/2021 15:24

@LouScot, yes, I know who they are. Smile
Some posters referred to NS as Jimmy Kranky and I posted saying such posts were childish and misogynistic. @Nosenseofhumour then posted telling me off for referencing Jimmy Krankie saying it was rude and boring. I was confused as to why she would do that as I was criticising such comments.
@Misshapencha0s, what do you mean, ‘compare Boris’ education with hers.’ Confused
I thought she was a law graduate of Glasgow University, is she not?

Also, all the posts referencing Jimmy Krankie. Hmm Are we not grown ups? Disagree with me if you wish, but really?

Anyway, as I said, this thread was in reference to her handling of the pandemic. Johnson’s handling of the pandemic is frankly disgraceful and right now I’d rather a leader with clarity who listens to the science.
Yes in fairness she is highly educated. My initial statement was in reply to the OP saying that Sturgeon makes Johnson appear 'uneducated.'

Janegrey333 · 04/01/2021 15:26

She really is an impressive politician.

peapotter · 04/01/2021 15:28

I think she and her government have done well compared to Boris and Westminster (not too hard). I’ve not heard a lot of grumbling about her, and my scottish bubble is pretty anti SNP. They’ve given us more notice (except this lockdown, but it was expected). School closures had more prep than England.

You don’t want her running the U.K. though, education and nationalism would be big problems.

Janegrey333 · 04/01/2021 15:28

In contrast , BJ behaves like a blithering idiot.

Misshapencha0s · 04/01/2021 15:33

My point was that I don't think you can claim Johnson is uneducated, silver spoon in mouth or not. Plenty of people are born into great privilege and achieve very little and vice versa. Education is not the issue. Sturgeon is good at the rhetoric and clear communication but is far from perfect.
Anyway everyone is entitled to think differently and I respect that.

Misshapencha0s · 04/01/2021 15:36

Agree
Janegrey333 · 04/01/2021 15:36

I said he BEHAVES like a blithering idiot.

MaintainTheMolehill · 04/01/2021 15:37

She reminds me of my Mum, always explains what she has to do properly, even if I don't agree with everything she does, I understand why she does it and that it is the best thing for me.
Makes the odd mistake which came from a good place but always, always has my back.

I think she's great and find the fact that people crying 'fake is ludicrous but then if someone seems too good to be true then that is usually the claim.

I'm afraid for English people being led by Boris. I cringe when he talks, he is reactive at best not proactive and I can never respect a PM who can't hold his hands up and admit he is way out of his depth when up to 1000 people are dying every day.

AlternativePerspective · 04/01/2021 15:39

Can’t stand her.

She has consistently spent the time political point scoring against BJ, (who I can’t stand either), usually she holds back for a day or two and then does what he does anyway.

Scotland was the only one of the four nations which hasn’t been back in lockdown, so the fact she’s only just decided to go down the lockdown route doesn’t exactly show her as being forward thinking.

And quite the opposite to most on here, I wasn’t at all impressed with her speech, she sounded as if she was rushing through it, barely stopping for breath.

I didn’t vote conservative but IMO Matt Hancock is a far better public speaker than she is. Doesn’t mean I’d vote for him as prime minister though, although if it was the choice between him and Boris ....

Janegrey333 · 04/01/2021 15:40

@Misshapencha0s

I presume you think charisma is why BJ is in his position, too? Many politicians have charisma.

bellinisurge · 04/01/2021 15:41

Johnson is so knob dessicatingly shit , he makes her look good.

OscarWildesCat · 04/01/2021 15:42

I think she’s been fantastic, anyone making ignorant comments along the lines of hating her because of what “she” has done, needs to educate themselves. Proud to be Scottish.
