Just listening to her statement to the Scottish Parliament. I don’t want to debate her wider politics or the question of Scottish independence because that’s for the Scots to decide.
I’m just so impressed by her leadership and how clear and concise she is. There’s no waffle, no bluster. She’s just said Scotland is 4wks behind London so the time to act is now before they’re in the same position.

Her manner is just so factual and informative and if I was Scottish or lived in Scotland whether I agreed with her SNP politics or not, I’d be very glad she was my FM. She makes BJ look like an uneducated idiot who is neither responsible nor has the balls to take decisions before the effects are smacking him on the face.

Even a blind squirrel finds a nut every once in a while though doesn't it.

I like this. My go to is usually that even a stopped clock is right sometimes.

ikswobel · 04/01/2021 16:23

If you go over to Scotsnet you will find an echo chamber of people who hate Nicola Sturgeon and the SNP.
That's not reflected in real life, most people are really glad to have her even if they disagree with some policies or even independence, she is respected and well liked.

FifeQuine · 04/01/2021 16:23

I'm in Scotland and I'm not confused, WaxOnFeckOff, neither is anyone else I know. Perhaps because we've been paying attention?

Hmm

threads all over people asking about childcare, opticians, painters etc. She can't answer the detail on anything and folk sitting waiting to know - if you know the answer to everything then you could maybe go and address the concerns raised? She was sketchy when asked about rollout of vaccine and pretty much everything else.

I don't need to know the answers as i'll just have to sit and do fuck all like i've had to do for the best part of the year despite likely having been immune since March.

And the same the other way @ikswobel. I only personally know about 2 people who like her, everyone else hates her guts. It just shows the absolute divide this country has.
GetOffYourHighHorse · 04/01/2021 16:33

'That's not reflected in real life, most people are really glad to have her even if they disagree with some policies or even independence, she is respected and well liked.'

But why? just because she reads her script well?! As I've said drug related deaths are the worst in the world and education has nose dived under the snp. There's only 5m people with a very small pop density so shouldn't be compared to England. She's running a country the size of Yorkshire yet people compare her to Johnson running somewhere with 10 times the population size.

GetOffYourHighHorse · 04/01/2021 16:35

I like Arlene Foster if we're rating people purely on how they come across. She is very no nonsense and articulate.

JudgeRindersMinder · 04/01/2021 16:36

@AllPlayedOut

YABVU. I can't bear her. I can't stand Boris either but she especially infuriates me, probably because I'm in Scotland and she and her ridiculous decisions affect me more. I can barely stand to look at her.
This. I honestly can’t even hear her voice without shouting FUCK OFFFFF
FifeQuine · 04/01/2021 16:36

Yes, you're right WaxOnFeckOff I don't know what the rules are regarding painters. I'll have to check here, I guess....

www.gov.scot/publications/coronavirus-covid-19-stay-at-home-guidance/

Maybe that's what the others could do as well instead of putting random questions on a Social Media site. Hmm

WaxOnFeckOff · 04/01/2021 16:40

A right @FifeQuine I forgot you were the internet police...

rookiemere · 04/01/2021 16:43

She mostly appears well as contrasted with Boris Johnson, the world's worst orator.

He's just unbelievably bad - lacking details, inarticulate and wordy, clearly deeply narcissistic. I can only hope he's not as bad at actual politicking as he is at speaking to the general public.

I'm in Scotland and not an SNP fan, but I would agree that NS is a world class communicator. However in this crisis she's good at restrictions and caution but less good at acts of faith or moving forward when you can. If it was down to SG I doubt we'd have invested as heavily in the vaccines.

GintyMcGinty · 04/01/2021 16:43

She's done nothing different to any of the other nations.

She just say it eloquently and with a tear in her eye.

Cue gushing and adoration

amber763 · 04/01/2021 16:43

@WaxOnFeckOff your posts say more about you and the people you know than about Nicolas ability as FM. She's a competent politician who shows real leadership. You sound really ignorant.

ssd · 04/01/2021 16:44

I totally agree @NellyJames

SunKeepsShining · 04/01/2021 16:44

NS or Jacinda, New Zealand have really been the country to look up to.

ssd · 04/01/2021 16:46

I'm Scottish Btw

ikswobel · 04/01/2021 16:47

I think the election in May will show whether most people like Nicola or not.
@GetOffYourHighHorse the drugs deaths are tragic but they aren't just as straight forward as they seem, due to a different way of recording that's only used here for some reason. Most of them are in men between 45 and 64 who have been drug users for some time and finally succumbed. They are the original Trainspotting generation.
But Scotland does have a real problem with addiction whether drugs or alcohol, it's endemic in society and has been for years. Don't lay this entirely at the feet of any administration.

CakeRequired · 04/01/2021 16:48

In today’s world what people say is more important than what they do. I am depressed by this.

Exactly. She comes across great, the reality however is very different.

She did however say judge her on education for her time in office. I am judging her very harshly for that for sure, and on health.

ssd · 04/01/2021 16:49

Jacinda for sure.

The women politicians are wiping the floor with the men.....mind you I'd do better than Johnson and I got 4 O levels...

NikkyD · 04/01/2021 16:49

I agree. Not only does she not mince her words or faff around delaying the inevitable like BJ she genuinely comes across as a nice person who cares about her country.

rosie1959 · 04/01/2021 16:50

Just no awful woman

Hi2021 · 04/01/2021 16:50

Agree she’s handling it well . A lot of people up here , even if not fully convinced re independence , still think she’s doing a good job . She’s doing her best in a tricky situation and she tries to be open and honest and clear and yes think she’s doing a great job.

GreenlandTheMovie · 04/01/2021 16:57

@sst1234

She is a good public speaker. Aside from that SNPs record in govt isn’t exactly glowing despite the Barnet formula. In health outcomes, educational outcomes, drug use the data speaks for itself and leaves her quite exposed. But hey we live in the age of celebrity, being able to bullshit is more important than actual results.
I find her aggresive and roughly spoken. I'm from a part of Scotland which doesn't vote SNP and which has a particularly soft, clear dialect. I struggle to understand her and don't think she would go down very well in many parts of Europe, because she comes across as aggressive due to her delivery and not conciliatory enough ie she lacks basic charm and wit - she's mediocre.

I do like west of Scotland dialects in general but not hers (no doubt someone will be along to tell me that actually she comes from 3cm past Stirling...). I'd love to debate with her live on tv however and ask her some salient questions.

I think many posters avoid this topic because they are (a) sick of NS being shoved down their throats by her fans/followers or (b) afraid of being virtually "roughed up" by the same collective.

ssd · 04/01/2021 16:59

@GreenlandTheMovie, what a snotty post!! Pity she doesn't speak like the queen eh?!?

GreenlandTheMovie · 04/01/2021 16:59

Oh and I think having the pubs open all summer where you could drink with strangers while having swimming pools and gyms closed and banning people from meeting their own family members in their own homes was utterly ridiculous and very unwise policy.
