To wish Nicola Sturgeon was Prime Minister.

Just listening to her statement to the Scottish Parliament. I don’t want to debate her wider politics or the question of Scottish independence because that’s for the Scots to decide.
I’m just so impressed by her leadership and how clear and concise she is. There’s no waffle, no bluster. She’s just said Scotland is 4wks behind London so the time to act is now before they’re in the same position.

Her manner is just so factual and informative and if I was Scottish or lived in Scotland whether I agreed with her SNP politics or not, I’d be very glad she was my FM. She makes BJ look like an uneducated idiot who is neither responsible nor has the balls to take decisions before the effects are smacking him on the face.

@sst1234

Fair point - he is more effective. My point was that Nigel Farage is a good speaker but he has now shown his true colours in terms of who he fraternises with (Trump, Viktor Orban). So we shouldn’t assume that good speaker (which Nicola Sturgeon undoubtedly is) equals good person.

HibernatingTill2030 · 04/01/2021 14:54

*not a fan, that should say.
And handling the crisis better than England has is, admittedly a fairly low bar.

FifeQuine · 04/01/2021 14:54

Agree with the OP. I'm happy that she is in charge in Scotland and not Johnson. Call her all the sexist and derogatory terms you like, insult her looks as much as you like. I guess she doesn't care and you are all just showing how childish you are.

Me, I'll console myself with the fact that she has acted now while Scotland's rate per 100,000 is less than 300 while the UK's has soared to over 450 and Johnson still isn't doing anything about it.

ConfusedcomMum · 04/01/2021 14:54

I'd even welcome Theresa May with open arms at this point.

He is actually far more effective than she is. He won his referendum, and she lost hers. Doesn’t matter whether we like him or not, but that’s a fact judging on his results.

@sst1234, I thought Alex Salmond was in the top job during the Scottish referendum?

SoupDragon · 04/01/2021 14:56

As soon as people insult her looks then they show themselves up to be misogynistic and that their points are to be ignored.

People insult Boris's looks all the time.

(I don't disagree that it's wrong mind you)

ScribblingPixie · 04/01/2021 14:56

God, no. She's a highly effective communicator but when you look at policy & (lack of) achievement not appealing at all.

sst1234 · 04/01/2021 14:56

@HibernatingTill2030

I'm a fan of the SNP or her in general, but I will concede Scotland has handled this much better than England has.
You do know that Scotland has a higher death rate per million from Covid vs England?
GetOffYourHighHorse · 04/01/2021 14:57

'Are you on the waccy baccy? Ability and Boris Johnson are not even distantly related.'

Oh you must have missed the no quota FTA he negotiated with the EU that everyone said was impossible? Look at Nicola's education and drug related deaths record as proof she tells a good story but that's about it.

As an aside do peope really still say waccy baccy Grin.

MarshaBradyo · 04/01/2021 14:57

No based on decisions

sst1234 · 04/01/2021 14:59

This thread is a perfect example that the general public doesn’t know what is going on. The readily available statistics show that she is doing a terrible job on health, education even Covid deaths when compared with England and yet people are taken in by her public speaking abilities. The numbers tell a totally different story.

ThatIsNotMyUsername · 04/01/2021 15:00

I’m not living up there anymore but have plenty of family who do - she is doing a terrible job and will bankrupt the country with all her promises.

RaspberryCoulis · 04/01/2021 15:02

@toomanyplants

I agree. She speaks with such authority and confidence. I really like her.
Yup. Never mind the content of what she's actually saying, it's the way she says it that counts. All you need to be an effective PM is some slick presentation skills training. Hmm

For the record I don't think any leaders are handling this well. But thinking that Sturgeon is doing an amazing job just because she makes a good speech.... no.

Calmandmeasured1 · 04/01/2021 15:03

She sees what the PM and the cabinet decide and then, anything she disagrees with, she changes and announces it first.
She wouldn't have a clue if left to her own devices.

She wasn't very impressive in dealing with the errant minister who travelled by train to London after a Covid test (and then travelled back with Covid). People complain about Boris Johnson's handling of Dominic Cummings travelling when he had symptoms of Covid yet Nicola Sturgeon didn't handle a similar thing any better.

Also, I might think she was a contender if she was an MP but she isn't even voted in by the public is she?

Stressedmummyof4 · 04/01/2021 15:05

I absolutely love how the people who don't like her throw childish names and insults. And comparing someone's education is pretty poor.

She comes across very well, gives clear information and advice instead of waffling along.

I would also love to know what these people who think she's doing such a poor job with regards to covid would do instead?

itsgettingweird · 04/01/2021 15:07

Agree. Said as much on another thread a few minutes ago.

I felt I knew what she was doing, why she is doing it, what she hopes to achieve, what next steps were alongside me apathy and thanks for her nationals for following it and doing what they've done so far.

NellyJames · 04/01/2021 15:07

@Calmandmeasured1, I thought she withdrew the whip from the SNP MP who travelled with Covid, did she not? She cannot legally fire her as an MP.

Nosenseofhumour · 04/01/2021 15:08

@NellyJames give over with the Krankies comments, yawn, and actually contribute a meaningful comment. Like or dislike, either would be fine. But not that very tired unfunny comment. Hmm

HibernatingTill2030 · 04/01/2021 15:08

You do know that Scotland has a higher death rate per million from Covid vs England?

Data I can find shows England at 116.3 and Scotland at 84 per 100k. Admittedly may be out of date data, though.

KatieGGGG · 04/01/2021 15:09

@sst1234 you’re wrong. England are doing significantly worse. Here you go:

BoJoHoNo · 04/01/2021 15:09

Didn't she break her own Government's policy on mask wearing just a couple of weeks ago at a funeral of all places!? She's no better than Johnson imo. Tony Blair was a good public speaker, but that doesn't make his legacy any less bloody imo.

itsgettingweird · 04/01/2021 15:09

@YoniAndGuy

Also compare Boris' education with hers...

Oh dear, might want to think that one through.

Boris Johnson's 'education' is a huge factor in why the government is in the mess it is.

A massive web of institutions entirely devoted to taking the children of the rich, be they clever, thick or entirely average, polishing every turd until they gleam, connecting turd with turd until it's a sea of ordure that is entirely impenetrable from the outside, and propelling each steamer into a position of responsibility entirely unrelated to what ability or talent they might actually have.

Our politicial class, our judiciary, every system in the UK is weakened by being weighted towards individuals who take posts and responsibilities they would not be able to reach if education was a level playing field.

When I see someone who reaches higher office from a state school background it's a balm. You know - they're at least clever enough to actually do the job.

If Boris hadn't been a rich pampered prize piglet, he wouldn't have achieved anything of note. He's not where he is on merit in the slightest.

🤣🤣🤣🤣

I literally spat my coffee out reading that.

A very true explanation.

Yet he continues to think he's the experts on schools and state education 🤔

She is excellent. Decisive and listens to the advice of people who actually know what they are talking about. She is also an excellent communicator.
