Just that really, do you use a purse and if not then what do you use for your cards etc instead?

YABU - obviously I use a purse, stupid question
YANBU - purses are sooo 2010 and are cumbersome. Of course I don't.

@Angeldust747 it's contactless card that has a limit of £45. Apple Pay doesn't have a limit. I only realised this recently!

yankeedoodledandee · 04/01/2021 09:20

I don't what you would use instead? Mine has 5 bank account cards, 6 loyalty cards,

These are all on my phone.

bank notes and some change (I have a little purse in the car for most change so that I always have parking money).

I haven't carried cash for a long time. Also haven't encountered a car park that doesn't offer either contactless payment or online payment in the last 5? years.

Ivalueloyaltyaboveallelse · 04/01/2021 09:21

No I hate purses and handbags. I mainly use Apple Pay.

yankeedoodledandee · 04/01/2021 09:22

@Angeldust747

My purse lives in my handbag, but more often than not I use my phone... It's a real pain when I have spent over £45 and have to dig my card out 😂

You don't have to.

AlwaysLatte · 04/01/2021 09:23

I think I need to get with the times. I've got one bank card on my phone and haven't ever used it. I didn't know you could put loyalty cards on. My kids despair at my lack of technical know how!
But then again if I didn't have a purse, then I'd have less of an excuse to carry a bag for my other pointless crap. Grin

Aprilx · 04/01/2021 09:25

I must be out of touch too. I honestly didn’t even know it was a thing to not have a purse, I thought everybody had a purse or a wallet.

AlwaysLatte · 04/01/2021 09:25

Also haven't encountered a car park that doesn't offer either contactless payment or online payment in the last 5? years.
Two of the car parks I use regularly don't accept cards. Although weirdly one of those car parks has a machine that does on one side of the car park and one that doesn't on the other - depends where I manage to get a space.

Winterwoollies · 04/01/2021 09:27

I don’t use cash anymore as no where seems to accept it because Covid. I just use my phone for Apple Pay. To be honest, even before this I would am just shove my cards into my back pockets.

DoTheNextRightThing · 04/01/2021 09:28

YABU haha. I have a big bulky purse that weighs a tone because I always carry coins with me. And way too many cards.

Iknowwhatudidlastsummer · 04/01/2021 09:35

I have purse and handbag. I can't stand having pockets full of stuff, I'd rather chuck everything in my bags which are always on my shoulder and leave my hands free.

There are so many car parks that require cash only around here, I need a purse.

Looking at the amount of secondary school girls and students with purses, I don't believe it's aging

Iknowwhatudidlastsummer · 04/01/2021 09:36

Also haven't encountered a car park that doesn't offer either contactless payment or online payment in the last 5? years

DH is convinced they are redundant and is forever stuck without cash every time he wants to park and it's cash only Grin

midnightstar66 · 04/01/2021 09:40

No my phone case does all I need, I use Apple Pay imostly anyway but I can tuck notes in to the back of the card holder in my case

midnightstar66 · 04/01/2021 09:44

You need to be careful storing your bank cards next to your phone as there’s a danger the magnetic strip on your card can stop working.

I've been doing this for years and that's never happened - I guess if it were to though I could just order a new one . I'd lose a card if I just too it loose to a shop, although I rarely need them these days anyway, I do keep my 2 bank cards, historic Scotland card and driving licence all in my phone case. Easier if it's all together and to hand

NotExactlyMrsCurrentAffairs · 04/01/2021 09:46

I've got a purse but rarely use it. If I use my purse I have to put it inside a handbag and handbags give me shoulder/back ache. Occasionally I use a rucksack instead for this purpose but only if I'm going on a long journey by public transport.
For every day use I have a little bus pass wallet that I keep a few cards in bank/reward/ library etc. Fits in my pocket, no need for a bag.

greeneyedlulu · 04/01/2021 09:48

Yes I have large Oakley purse, which I found for a bargain price in tk maxx. It is a bit on the large size but it fits snugly in to my little handbag. I used to just have a card wallet for my oyster card and bank card but since having kids, I find you always need to cash so I thought it was time to grow up and get a mummy purse! I call it that as my mum always had a massive purse!

midnightstar66 · 04/01/2021 09:49

if Apple Pay goes down when your shopping how do u cope if u have no cards

I've never heard of Apple Pay going down. Not sure it's a thing. Tills can go down which often means the shops can't accept any sort of card payment or even make transactions at all. As I said I have cards and cash in my phone case anyway so all eventualities covered in one handy unit

Notjustanymum · 04/01/2021 09:50

I use a Secrid, and a coin purse. Don’t use much cash, tbh.

Iknowwhatudidlastsummer · 04/01/2021 09:51

Thinking about it, I also have at least a purse per currency. When I go on holiday, (like we used to in the good old days Hmm ) I just leave whatever cash in there ready for next time

ricecrispiecake · 04/01/2021 09:53

@Angeldust747 There's not a limit with Apple Pay like there is for contactless with a card. You can spend over £45 with Apple Pay.

midnightstar66 · 04/01/2021 09:53

Oh and I have a collection of change in the drinks holder in the car for trollies and parking. If I am getting enough shopping to need a trolley I will always have the car.

squeekums · 04/01/2021 09:53

I have a small wallet but 99% of the time I just have my phone and bank card in phone case
Loyalty cards in stocard app

Babdoc · 04/01/2021 09:58

Haven’t used a purse for over 30 years. Or a handbag. I just stick a small credit card holder in my pocket, along with keys, tissue, phone, and a loose £20 note for the rare occasion when I might find somewhere that doesn’t take cards.
I keep loose change in the car for parking machines.

midnightstar66 · 04/01/2021 10:01

@Angeldust747 There's not a limit with Apple Pay like there is for contactless with a card. You can spend over £45 with Apple Pay.

Even Tesco and Asda have caught up now, for a long time their systems didn't allow payment to go through to the card reader with a contactless option to facilitate Apple Pay over the contactless card limit but they've finally resolved this.

To the poster who said they can't use facial recognition with a mask - you can use your passcode instead. I do miss the fingerprint option but I've got used to it now and it only takes fractionally longer

Shadeslayer · 04/01/2021 18:32

I have a phone case with space for my cards and some notes. I kept losing my purse or bank card not putting it back in my purse, but never lose my phone so it made sense. I never use a bag either unless I'm going out all day.

I do have a purse with all my cards I keep in the car incase I need them.

ParkheadParadise · 04/01/2021 18:39

I have a lovely Ted Baker purse. I mostly use my phone to pay for everything now, but I still carry my purse in my massive handbag full of useful crap.
