Do you use a purse?

Just that really, do you use a purse and if not then what do you use for your cards etc instead?

YABU - obviously I use a purse, stupid question
YANBU - purses are sooo 2010 and are cumbersome. Of course I don't.

I've always used one, everyone I know uses one. I'm really surprised others haven't/don't.

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 03/01/2021 19:14

I do use one, but the style of my purse is very different to one that I'd have used a few years ago.
The current one is more of a card holder with one zipped pocket that holds more cards, a £10 note in case of emergencies and occasionally any change from having to use cash.

Mylittleturkeysandwich · 03/01/2021 19:14

I love my purse. Plain black Michael Kors bought in a clearance shop years ago. It's lovely and has loads of card spaces etc. Still in great nick.

Thimbleberries · 03/01/2021 19:16

Yes, because there are enough other things to carry with me that I need a handbag - mask, sanitiser, comb, umbrella, mini water bottle, packet of paracetamol/plasters, lip balm, pen, shopping bag, keys, car keys

So if the bag has all that, then no point just shoving loose phone and cards in there, would be hard to find when needed, so might as well have a proper purse.

I like the idea occasionally of going out with just phone and house keys, but pockets never seem secure or big enough for that, and it would feel odd not to have at least some of the other stuff with me. I'm impressed people manage without all the stuff. Even if I don't use most of it most days, I like knowing it's there, and I'd never remember to sort out exactly what I needed each time (just like I never actually change handbags, either!).

hettyhooverdoover · 03/01/2021 19:17

@CoRhona

I was given a Radley purse for Christmas and am looking forward to using it! The only exception is if I don't take a bag out, then I have a bank card in the back of my phone case. Not really bothering with cash at present...
Ooh me too!! Dh got the hint. I love it!!
Pyewhacket · 03/01/2021 19:23

I have a pocket time manager that doubles as a wallet. But then I have a hand made leather bag which I keep all my shiz in. I’ve have it for years and got it in Laramie when I worked there. It has a section where a lady keeps her snub nose 45.

SantasAnus · 03/01/2021 19:28

Cant understand how pp'stgink your phone would be more susceptible to pickpockets.

I keep my phone in my pocket, with my zip fastened, of an inside pocket of my coat.

I'd say that's safer than having a handbag hanging off your shoulder. What do you do with your handbag of for example, you're trying shoes on?

SantasAnus · 03/01/2021 19:28

*Pp's think

It's bizarre but it felt really liberating when I ditched my handbag! The amount of rubbish I'd carry round religiously every day and never ever use was ridiculous. I no longer have pains in my shoulders from carrying heavy bags and I never worry I've forgotten something when I leave the house as if I've locked the door and have my phone, I'm sorted.

Try it one day and I swear you'll not go back.

Thimbleberries · 03/01/2021 19:45

well, maybe one day!!

What about the summer, when no-one wears coats? Or when you get a blister when you're walking around (maybe it's just me that happens to all the time). Or you need to do the crossword and haven't a pen? Or put your shopping somewhere?

Ok, I guess it just means planning better and thinking more each time I leave the house

WunWun · 03/01/2021 20:04

@Escourtie

Just outta intrest two points

are those that just grab Phone/Card and put in pocket not worried about Pick Pockets?

if Apple Pay goes down when your shopping how do u cope if u have no cards on you sorry for my not knowing but i dont have Apple pay as dont have an Iphone

I would be far more worried about someone snatching a handbag than being pickpocketed. I don't live in a big city. I've literally never heard of someone being pickpocketed here. I would notice straight away if someone was close enough to pickpocket me, let alone to actually get their hand inside my skinny jeans pocket without me noticing.
TheAlphaandtheOmega · 03/01/2021 20:09

I have a purse and a bag, loads of cards in my purse, if they weren't all in there I would probably forget one like my National Trust card and need it. In my bag is all the covid paraphernalia like sanitiser and masks, plus loads of tissues, I'm prone to nosebleeds, plasters, pen, tape measure -just in case I want to buy something that needs measuring. You never know what you need until you haven't got it.

sanityisamyth · 03/01/2021 20:09

I have a purse but I rarely take it anywhere as I pay for everything on my phone.

Notimeforaname · 03/01/2021 20:13

are those that just grab Phone/Card and put in pocket not worried about Pick Pockets? pockets are buttoned or zipped closed and my hands are usually in my pocket . I usually have a mixture of cash and cards. In my pockets.

bloodyhairy · 03/01/2021 20:14

No. I just carry my card. I never carry cash.

Oblomov20 · 03/01/2021 20:29

I am so ashamed that I don't even know how to NOT have a purse.
I just don't get how young people do everything on their phone.

Oblomov20 · 03/01/2021 20:32

Apple Pay?
Is that all you need?
Advantage?

What else do you need?

jessstan1 · 03/01/2021 20:33

Of course I use a purse (wallet for USA), I thought everyone did.

TheAlphaandtheOmega · 03/01/2021 20:34

If you haven't got a purse though where do you store all your cards in the house, I have loads and they would have to be loose in the drawer and I would probably forget the one I wanted. It's not just cards for payment as there are also membership cards, National Trust for example

C8H10N4O2 · 03/01/2021 20:35

Apple pay here.

Rarely take a purse or wallet anywhere these days - even market stalls take electronic payments most of the time now. I have some parking meter change for hospital and council car parks which seem to be the main hold out for cash around here.

DelphineWalsh · 03/01/2021 20:37

@TheAlphaandtheOmega you can add all memberships and points rewards cards to the Google pay app. I don't know if apple pay is the same.

Sunbird24 · 03/01/2021 20:37

I think I love you! 😂 I’m 43.
C8H10N4O2 · 03/01/2021 20:38

Apple Pay? Is that all you need? Advantage?

For me, more secure and convenient. Harder to skim a card encoded into a phone, if my phone was stolen they would need to guess an 8 digit PIN to open it.

I have debit/credit/charge cards registered with the phone so I can pay using whichever I choose at the point of sale, ticket barrier or wherever.

TheAlphaandtheOmega · 03/01/2021 20:39

I do use my Apple Watch to pay sometimes though even though I always carry my mighty purse with me, I used to use my iPhone to pay but the face recognition doesn't work with a mask so that is a faff.

namechange7438 · 03/01/2021 20:42

I have a phone purse 😂

Purposefully got a phone case with an extra "flap" for More cards/rubbish. If I ever have cash it goes behind the cards in the middle "flap." Loose change lives and breeds in my car central console.
