Do you use a purse?

Just that really, do you use a purse and if not then what do you use for your cards etc instead?

YABU - obviously I use a purse, stupid question
YANBU - purses are sooo 2010 and are cumbersome. Of course I don't.

I’ve got a Mulberry wallet that has a coin section in. It was an extravagance but I got £80 and that’s how I justified the cost to myself. Grin

Oblomov20 · 03/01/2021 20:50

No seriously. Please tell me 'idiots guide' what I need to set up, to not need to carry a purse.

Oblomov20 · 03/01/2021 20:58

Ds1 has Apple Pay on his phone but took it off.
Many of his friends have had their Face ID overridden easily and had £45 spent at numerous places before they even realised their phone had been taken.

Have a look here if you have an iPhone:

support.apple.com/en-us/HT204506

There are links to demo videos as well. If you want to try it out start with just your basic bank card and see how you get on. You can choose to confirm a payment by PIN on your phone, finger print or face id depending on which iPhone you use. If you start slow with one to get used to it and find you like it then add your other cards later.

For the phone you press the side button to alert the phone to the payment terminal and then confirm the payment just as if you were putting a card in the machine.

Apparently on another thread having a purse is ageing.

Estreladebelem · 03/01/2021 21:02

I use Apple Pay 100% of the time but I have a purse. I carry some cards (bank, library), driving licence, there’s a coin compartment too. There’s no limit on payment on Apple Pay unlike contactless, so I tend to use it all the time, but I did come across a machine with faulty contactless once at Lidl once so had to use my card then, I also use my card at Asda as they limit their machines to the same as contactless, though not sure if it’s changed since COVID as I haven’t been for big shops.

@Oblomov20, for Apple Pay, go to wallet app, press the plus on the top right corner and follow the instructions, easy peasy.

Estreladebelem · 03/01/2021 21:06

I take the Asda thing back, I just looked at my latest transactions and I had one over £50 last month.

I'm old anyway so don't really care as I have already aged and I don't think not having a purse will distract from that Grin
CounsellorTroi · 03/01/2021 21:44

I use a mini wallet that has a little lever that pushes up the cards so you can choose which one you want. It also takes banknotes. I love it.

MammaSchwifty · 03/01/2021 22:31

no, I don't use one, no space in my pockets for any bulk. I really need a little card holder or something though, since I'm always losing my stuff. For example, I have no idea where my driving license is currently, or my bank cards. Toddler could have posted them between the gaps in the floorboards for all I know.

.......
What utter nonsense. Where else do you keep cash and cards?

KarlKennedysDurianFruit · 03/01/2021 22:51

@jessstan1 few people carry cash these days and you can pay for most things with your phone or smart watch. I do have a purse and take it out if I'm going shopping for the day (in normal times) but mainly for loyalty cards which are increasingly going over to app based digital cards, if I'm just popping to the local shop or going out and there's a small chance I might need to pay for something I have my phone , DH mainly uses his watch.

Calmandmeasured1 · 03/01/2021 22:54

I use a purse for paper money, stamps and sentimental credit card sized cards from DH. I use a small purse for coins and an aluminium RFID blocker card holder for debit and credit cards and loyalty cards.

KarlKennedysDurianFruit · 03/01/2021 22:56

@C8H10N4O2 didn't know it worked for all loyalty cards on Google pay I've got a few on there, my purse will now likely be relegated to a drawer, thanks!

You don't put your purse in your pocket, it goes in your handbag.

People do still use cash or at least did up until the pandemic. Not as much as in the past but people like cash. During the pandemic I have only used cash to pay cab drivers on the odd occasion I've had to go somewhere and they are very glad of it. When all this is over, cash will become popular again.

I don't use cash or cards, so have no need to keep them anywhere!! I do have a purse with my National Trust/annual passes/blood donor type cards in but I never take it out of the house.

Charlie63849 · 04/01/2021 09:02

90% of the time I don’t take one out anymore. Even though I have a lovely mulberry one that’s hardly used.

  1. if me and my partner goes out, he paysGrin
  2. I have Apple Pay on my phone. It’s just quick and easy and I always have my phone with me.
Charlie63849 · 04/01/2021 09:04

What cards do I need to take with me ? All bank cards are on my phone in my Apple wallet and most other cards I use a lot I either have stored on my phone too in a app Confused

AlwaysLatte · 04/01/2021 09:12

I don't what you would use instead? Mine has 5 bank account cards, 6 loyalty cards, bank notes and some change (I have a little purse in the car for most change so that I always have parking money). I'm not sure where I'd put down those without a purse.

AlwaysLatte · 04/01/2021 09:12

Oh and driving licence!

Godimabitch · 04/01/2021 09:14

I dont use a handbag or purse. I keep things in the back of my phone case or pockets. I'll use a backpack when baby's born.

MeMarmiteYouJam · 04/01/2021 09:14

I keep my bank card and a bit of cash in my phone case and carry it in my pockets. I don't like using a bag for my things, so I make sure I buy trousers with decent pockets (Lucy & Yak being a favourite lately)

If you have a smart phone all cards and loyalty cards can be stored on that. That’s what I do. Iv also been driving for 10 years and never needed my driving license without prior notice so I don’t carry mine with me. My coins go in the middle of the car central along with some notes too for parking and kids crap they want Smile
Tryingtoreadmore · 04/01/2021 09:18

More of a wallet than a purse. I would lose my cards within seconds if I didn't have it!
