Bloody joggers

I've had enough of them.
Today I was going to pick my daughter up and these idiots are all over the road.
The sun was very low today and it was very hard too see the road.
I swear I nearly knocked 2 idiots down who were running on the road.
I get people need to get out and keep fit but keep to the bloody pavements and if the pavement is too icy then bloody stay at home and stop putting road users at risk.
I mean can you imagine the hassle a driver would be put through if we ran over one of these selfish idiots...either stay on the pavements or stay indoors..

You sound as moronic as the 'joggers', they also have little or no hearing as of course the outfit requires the inevitable music to perform to. Were a driver to decide to use the pavements there'd be an outcry, although those other performers, the lycra Mafia, seem to consider it their territory.

Jesus, were you frothing at the mouth when you wrote this? Another one who need to get out and excercise no doubt.

Bring it on

Bloody joggers
Seasaltyhair · 03/01/2021 07:43

I was driving the other day, sun very low and there was glare off the road too. I had sunglasses on but it was awful and I was driving slow.

A stupid woman was walking her dog on the road and the dog ( some kind of cocker poodle) was acting like a crazed lunatic and jumping/pulling/leaping in to the bloody road. I was actually crawling as I passed her as I thought the dog was going to go under my wheels. There was no path on my side of the road yet on the other side there was. Bloody idiot.

Humans and animals are never going to win against a vehicle that weighs over a ton and is travelling. And as an adult you shouldn’t put your life in a complete strangers hands not to knock you over/flatten you. Take responsibility for your own and animals life by walking/jogging in a safe space.

Don’t get me started on people that cross over the road between parked vehicles or random spots in the road rather than a crossing then casually walk across looking at you slack jawed expecting traffic to slow down down Angry.

Bunnyrun5 · 03/01/2021 07:51

I am so saddened by this thread it really says a lot about our society. How intolerant we are of others. We are living in a world governed by a pandemic we are all trying to find ways of coping with the worry and stress of this.
Some people need to drive to get out but feel safe, others want to walk or run let’s just be tolerant and care about each other please.

Henrysmycat · 03/01/2021 07:51

How many inane and stupid comments are on this threat? From accusing the OP of being fat (so what? Are we fat shaming now?) to being jealous.
Wtf some of you sniff cause sure as hell it ain’t legal.
I’m with you OP.

Henrysmycat · 03/01/2021 07:52

@Seasaltyhair the most sensible comments I’ve read.

nicebreeze · 03/01/2021 07:52

If you're on a road then likelihood is you're on a public highway.

Runners, pedestrians, cyclists, dog walkers, horse riders all use the public highway as a right. If you're driving it's via revocable license. Driving a car is a privilege, not a right. As a driver you're also subsidised by everyone else - you and other motorists cost society far more than you're taxed. Cars have also been using the road for far less time than everyone else so, really, it's drivers who need to know their place on the roads.

gannett · 03/01/2021 07:58

Car drivers can be so obnoxiously entitled.

I'm a jogger and a walker, and I'll stand up for cyclists too - we'll take no lectures on behaviour from huffy drivers. You are the ones contributing to a foul environment - both for those immediately around you and the planet as a whole. We are the ones getting off our arses, getting fit and using our legs to get around. The least you can do is respect our right to use the roads rather than act like we should kowtow to your disgusting hunks of metal.

HugeAckmansWife · 03/01/2021 08:28

nicebreeze calm down, jeez, I meant purely in relation to those who were saying the op shouldn't be driving if she couldn't see the road fully due to the sun, which is out of her control and happens to all of us at times. Yes I drive, every day, long distances, for 3 decades with no accidents. When sun, driving rain, someone else's full bean headlights, fog or whatever impedes visibility, drivers should take extra care and other road users should be aware they are less visible and do likewise.

Seasaltyhair · 03/01/2021 08:34

I feel exactly the same about joggers. You are purposely putting yourself in a dangerous position and expect other people to circumnavigate that. Take responsibility for yourself. It’s not my responsibility to keep you safe. As an adult if you can not understand that you shouldn’t be out in your own.

Cyclists and horse riders need to be on the road. You don’t.

You claim cars are foul yet are choosing to jog amongst the fumes Confused

redcandlelight · 03/01/2021 08:44

my local park only has a mile long footpath around it.
to do 5k or more you would almost get dizzy and certainly quite bored...
plus you would run slalom around dogs and dog poo and slow walkers.

in the dark I wear bike lights, but those are no help in low, bright sun as the op describes.

KaptainKaveman · 03/01/2021 08:46

What a cretinous comment OP.

randomsabreuse · 03/01/2021 08:50

I will admit to being judgy of joggers in my local area choosing to run on the roads (and pavements) in -3 degrees. Smooth tarmac will be slippery.

There are so many trails around our local area that are much safer than the roads. We're very lucky.

I don't like doing longer runs lapping a park but I'd prefer that to running on the road and being out with a broken wrist...

It's a different skillset running on rough trails but it's a good skill to have. Also harder work for any given pace so more fitness with less impact.

islockdownoveryet · 03/01/2021 09:13

Roads are for traffic if you go on the road pedestrians or runners be bloody careful . The op is not unreasonable and I run most days .

LolaSmiles · 03/01/2021 09:21

Wow, adults use public spaces totally reasonably shouldn't be out on their own.Hmm

Running on a road isn't dangerous. It's not my choice of running surface, but it isn't dangerous. Most drivers are totally reasonable drivers who drive in a way that is appropriate for the conditions.

Maybe instead of telling everyone to make way for the might car in case some drivers actually have to pay attention to the road, you tell drivers to drive appropriately for the conditions.
Cyclists and horse riders need to be on the road.

Why do I have a feeling you're the sort of person who'd be huffing and puffing about awful cyclists in lycra if you saw a cyclist on a cycle path when you want a quiet walk?

OverByYer · 03/01/2021 09:22

If your in lockdown as we are here in Wales, then you can’t drive to nice safe trails or parks to exercise. You have to start and finish at home. To start from home I have to navigate a road that doesn’t have pavement, then suburban streets. I do plan my routes to go through industrial estates and quiet roads so I can SD from walkers.
I cross roads again and again to give others space and only once have I had a thank you.

I cannot believe the vitriol on this thread.

randomsabreuse · 03/01/2021 09:32

I'm judging the people exactly where I am, running next to a trail I know full well exists...

MLMsuperfan · 03/01/2021 09:34

You're a menace OP. Let other types of road user share with your car, and allows down accordingly. Consult the Highway Code if you're still confused. Most drivers manage this.

ivykaty44 · 03/01/2021 09:35

Just been out for a walk, it’s near on impossible to walk along some pavements as drivers have put the cars onto the path and block the use- so you have to walk on the road, perhaps drivers should leave pavements for pedestrians 🚶‍♂️

JoMoJo123 · 03/01/2021 09:35

A courteous jogger (in our dreams) would obviously stay out of the road and run only the pavement EXCEPT 1) if it's too icy to run on the pavement, in which case they should stay home and use one of the zillions of online exercise apps that day 2) when there are many other pedestrians on the pavement, at which point they should slow down and WALK around in the road after carefully checking for cars, so they're not huffing and puffing over everyone.

GorgeousLadyofWrestling · 03/01/2021 09:37

I have just started couch to five k. I am a VERY slow jogger. The other day I was slowly plodding along the pavement and said “excuse me” to a woman with two children on scooters who were walking three a breast. I automatically went to go past them on the roadside as I also have young children, and prefer them to walk on the “inside” of the pavement. So I assumed this mother would also want that. But she didn’t want to and irritably snapped at me that I was selfish to run on the pavement and I should be on the road.

Can’t really win Confused 🤷🏻‍♀️

ivykaty44 · 03/01/2021 09:40

If drivers could just park on the road, this driver didn’t need to park on the pavement as they wouldn’t have been obstructing other road users

Bloody joggers
LuaDipa · 03/01/2021 09:42

@Cabincrewclare

I jog/run most days, cabin crew on long haul so want to be outdoors as much as possible!

I try to get at least one run a day in even when abroad, attitudes here are so rubbish compared to other countries.

We are people too, we are also almost all motorists and pay taxes to fund the roads.

Give us a break, at least we are trying to be healthy

This.

Plus I live in the country and there are no pavements. If I didn’t run on the road I couldn’t run.

thosetalesofunexpected · 03/01/2021 10:09

@Hailtomyteeth
I agree with your comments especially on Lycria wearing speed freaks cyclist's.

They look bloody ridiculous l.o.l😂

frumpety · 03/01/2021 10:14

This is what cars are expected to do for bikes etc.

I have no issue with slowing down or even stopping if neccessary ( often meet horses round here and sometimes you need to stop until the rider can get past the imagined hedge monsters ) to get round other road users.
I have no issue with anyone else using the road safely, I just don't think suddenly running onto the road into oncoming traffic is a safe thing to do. If you are running along the road, that's fine, I can see you , I know I need to take the appropriate action, slow down and pass wide, when safe to do so.
