Bloody joggers

Credenhill22 · 02/01/2021 21:02

I've had enough of them.
Today I was going to pick my daughter up and these idiots are all over the road.
The sun was very low today and it was very hard too see the road.
I swear I nearly knocked 2 idiots down who were running on the road.
I get people need to get out and keep fit but keep to the bloody pavements and if the pavement is too icy then bloody stay at home and stop putting road users at risk.
I mean can you imagine the hassle a driver would be put through if we ran over one of these selfish idiots...either stay on the pavements or stay indoors..

@LolaSmiles

I googled it but the only thing I could find was lazy...?

ivykaty44 · 03/01/2021 18:02

not really the correct word

I'm not following. ConfusedBlush
My last post was just taking the mix out of the idea thay drivers don't have to adjust their driving for the conditions and if there's anything unexpected in the road then it's the fault of the unexpected person /item/vehicle.
I was deliberately highlighting how claims a jogger was wrong to be in the road because a driver didn't want to adjust their driving for bright sun sounds stupid for similar situations.

OOOPS!
I realised it was our word for those who hate exercise

Omg I can't believe how much this has taken people's opinions.
I have been very busy with children and literally just looked at my post.
I totally understand everyone's view but I stand by what I say.
If you are able to be
Seen while running on the road and not JOGGING. then fair enough.
I get we all need to exercise and especially at this time but for goodness sake stop thinking you own the road.
If cars need to stop completely because people are on the road then that is not good for anyone.
Drivers are told not to go on the roads if the road conditions are dangerous...it a all over the news all the time, so what can't RUNNERS not go out running if the pavements are dangerous too.

Their speed doesn't matter. Drivers don't have the right to decide who should or should not be on the road.

I get we all need to exercise and especially at this time but for goodness sake stop thinking you own the road.
Someone else using the road does not equal them thinking they own the road.
People could quite rightly say it's about time a certain type of driver stopped thinking their car makes them the most important person on the road.
If cars need to stop completely because people are on the road then that is not good for anyone
Why? Seriously, why?
Drivers should drive in a way that is safe for the conditions and that includes allowing them appropriate time to stop in the event of a slow moving vehicle, a hazard, pedestrians or anything else that might come their way.

What you actually seem to mean is 'I don't want to drive in a way that is appropriate for the conditions'

Blibbyblobby · 03/01/2021 21:32

Omg I can't believe how much this has taken people's opinions.

You basically said you don't think you should have to avoid killing people on the road if you are in a car and they are not. That's going to get a reaction.

BIWI · 03/01/2021 21:56

@Credenhill22

for goodness sake stop thinking you own the road

How does someone running in the road - most likely by the kerb - suggest that they are 'owning the road'?

Fair enough if they're running right down the middle of the road, arms outstretched - but that's hardly likely, is it?!!!

You really are talking nonsense.

OverByYer · 03/01/2021 21:59

Well, in answer to your latter point. Driving requires a license, running, walking, etc whether on the road or not, doesn't.

And one involves driving a 2 tonne vehicle which can kill someone if driven unsafely. The others don't.

You really need this explained to you??

Eckhart · 03/01/2021 22:08

A runner using the road doesn't think they own the road. It's more likely that a person who thinks they shouldn't be there thinks they own the road.

If cars need to stop completely because people are on the road then that is not good for anyone

Yes, it is. It's good for the pedestrians, who are allowed to be there, because it prevents them being hit. And it's good for the drivers, unless they want to run people over. So, in fact, it's good for everyone in the situation.

Drivers are told not to go on the roads if the road conditions are dangerous...it a all over the news all the time, so what can't RUNNERS not go out running if the pavements are dangerous too

Because if they slip on the ice, there's a very low risk of them hurting anyone or damaging anything but themselves, whereas if a car slips on the ice, there's a strong likelihood of risk to people or property.

Any other queries?

Chesneyhawkes1 · 03/01/2021 22:30

I don't think I own the road. I run as close to the edge as I can.

Cars rarely stop even when another car is coming the other way. They squeeze past really close to me. Probably the same idiots that do it to cyclists and horses - because them loosing 30 seconds out of their precious day is more important than safety.

Any that do have to slow right down or actually stop get a big smile and a thumbs up.

UrAWizHarry · 03/01/2021 22:39

I ran for about a mile on a 60 mph road today because the alternative was an impassable mud bath or retracing about 10 miles. It was fine, with every driver giving me room and most returning my wave of thanks.

No point, other than to inject a bit of positivity. Runners are just people, if we are all considerate to each other rather than being dicks everyone is much happier.

Cars don't own the roads. You have to take a test and have a licence to use them. Personally, runners, riders etc do not.

And if you can't see the difference between not driving on an icy road and not running on ice, well, you are a bit stupid, aren't you?

Omg I can't believe people are arguing that people should be allowed to run on roads with traffic . And the woman who thinks it's perfectly fine to run on a 60mph road .
Seriously you can't argue with the stupid . Roads are for traffic .
I run , I walk , I drive but I don't run on roads because I value my life . I run on paths / parks / fields etc anywhere cars don't go on parks / paths fields do they .
Honestly there are bigger things to worry about .

Mangofandangoo · 03/01/2021 22:56

Why can't you believe it? The actually are allowed. By law. Do you think that the only valid argument here is the one that disagrees with the law (and agrees with your opinion)?

Macncheeseballs · 03/01/2021 23:17

Should one not run (or indeed walk) along country roads with no pavements? Or are they just for vehicles?

Pegsonstrings · 03/01/2021 23:32

You own a car, not the road

Eckhart · 03/01/2021 23:32

It seems that some drivers think they own the road, because they blame anybody else using the road of 'acting like they own the road' Confused

Mintjulia · 04/01/2021 00:11

@islockdownoveryet. I found your post very funny. Was that what you intended?

Where we live, there are roads. No footpaths, cycle lanes, bus lanes, just tarmac, twelve feet wide, with hedges either side and - if you are lucky - a broken line down the middle.

They are used by cars, lorries, cyclists, walkers, runners, horse riders, occasionally people in disability scooters too. Even herds of cows. Between villages the national speed limit is 60mph. All completely normal and managed by the highway code. How you imagine people get to their neighbours or the pub or school? Levitate? Grin

GreenlandTheMovie · 04/01/2021 00:12

islockdownoveryet Well you are a lunatic then hmm

You do realise that not everyone in Britain lives in a town or city with nice little pavements?

I live in a rural area which, like virtually every other rural area, is surrounded by national speed limit roads.

Are you seriously suggesting that everyone in rural areas should only travel by car just in case some idiot wants to speed on the road?

The advised "protocol" is to run on the right hand side, so that you can get out of the way if an idiot driver doesn't see you.

Do you understand that there are different soil types, and that those of us who live in areas of clay soil find it so impossibly muddy (deep, slippy mud) that its impossible to run round these elysian fields that you seem to imagine? There are no parks. There are no pavements.

I also cycle on the roads. Because I have a road bike, which is designed for roads.

UrAWizHarry · 04/01/2021 01:24

"Well you are a lunatic then "

Yeah, do fuck off dear. Peds/cyclists/horse riders can travel on roads by right. Cars... not so much.
