Bloody joggers

Credenhill22 · 02/01/2021 21:02

I've had enough of them.
Today I was going to pick my daughter up and these idiots are all over the road.
The sun was very low today and it was very hard too see the road.
I swear I nearly knocked 2 idiots down who were running on the road.
I get people need to get out and keep fit but keep to the bloody pavements and if the pavement is too icy then bloody stay at home and stop putting road users at risk.
I mean can you imagine the hassle a driver would be put through if we ran over one of these selfish idiots...either stay on the pavements or stay indoors..

If there were pedestrians, it almost certainly wasnt a national speed limit road, so YABU with your horrible aggressive OP.

Had you been on a motorway then YANBU, but otherwise you have to expect other categories of road users on the road as the law permits it, so either buy and learn to wear sunglasses or make short suburban journeys on foot or bike before you kill or cause life changing injuries to someone's wife, husband, mother, brother, etc..

IamMaz · 03/01/2021 10:25

I am NOT a jogger but a walker. I am old too!!!
I suffered a foot injury in September and couldn't even walk for a month!!!
My foot is still not healed now and I find it much less painful to walk on the road [facing oncoming traffic] than on a pavement that undulates for driveways and exacerbates my foot pain! I do hobble up onto the pavement if a car comes...

So please do not be too judgemental.

Seasaltyhair · 03/01/2021 10:34

@LolaSmiles

I feel exactly the same about joggers. You are purposely putting yourself in a dangerous position and expect other people to circumnavigate that. Take responsibility for yourself. It’s not my responsibility to keep you safe. As an adult if you can not understand that you shouldn’t be out in your own. Wow, adults use public spaces totally reasonably shouldn't be out on their own.Hmm

Running on a road isn't dangerous. It's not my choice of running surface, but it isn't dangerous. Most drivers are totally reasonable drivers who drive in a way that is appropriate for the conditions.

Maybe instead of telling everyone to make way for the might car in case some drivers actually have to pay attention to the road, you tell drivers to drive appropriately for the conditions.
Cyclists and horse riders need to be on the road.

Why do I have a feeling you're the sort of person who'd be huffing and puffing about awful cyclists in lycra if you saw a cyclist on a cycle path when you want a quiet walk?

I live semi rurally and my house backs on to a very well known trail that is used by horses, cyclists, walkers ect.. doesn’t bother me - the only thing that bothers me is the dog walkers who let their dogs shit outside my gate.

If you choose to run on the road your not only endangering yourself but other road users.

wellthatsunusual · 03/01/2021 10:41

It is clear, as ever, that a lot of people don't seem to realise that loads of people don't have footpaths or parks nearby.

It's also the case that a lot of women are reluctant to run around quiet parks and prefer to be out on the open road where they are visible.

ohnomesandwiches · 03/01/2021 10:44

This thread... such horrible, vicious bitter people posting. I wonder if I know anyone like this in real life. Who appears perfectly normal but secretly posts this bile on MM. This thread is like a satire!

ohnomesandwiches · 03/01/2021 10:46

Awaits the inevitable posters coming along to ripme apart for posting MM!! Grin 3,2,1...

m0therofdragons · 03/01/2021 10:46

Any over joggers find they know which car drivers are also joggers in their spare time just by the way they drive? They let you go at junctions because they know how hard stop start running is and are just overall considerate. Maybe the op should start jogging so she can see both sides too?

DownToTheSeaAgain · 03/01/2021 10:47

Why can't we just be more tolerant of each other? Pavements are busy, parks are busy, cars have no more 'rights' than pedestrians/ runners they are just bigger and more likely to hurt.

Be less self centred OP it is hard for everyone right now.

GwendolineMarysLaces · 03/01/2021 10:48

You are quite angry OP. Running can really help with a person's stress levels....

LolaSmiles · 03/01/2021 10:50

I don't choose to run on the road, but sometimes have had to on some routes as the trail path does a dogs leg across a road.

However, it's not pedestrians or runners on roads that put people in danger. It's drivers who don't drive with due care and attention.

Around any corner there could be a tractor, horsebox, a car that has broken down, a horse, an animal that's got out from a local farm, a motorcyclist, a pedestrian, a cyclist, a load that has dropped off a lorry or tractor, or any other thing. If a driver drives in such a way that any of the above is a problem then the dangerous factor is the driver who isn't driving appropriately for the conditions.

randomer · 03/01/2021 10:52

By all means, don the lycra and huff and puff if thats your thing. Just don't do it down the back of my neck.

Coffeeandcocopops · 03/01/2021 10:52

Let’s all just get on. The gyms are closed, dance and fitness classes are online so inevitably there will be more people out and about. Families are stuck local so parks are heaving with kids and dogs. My local footpaths and off road trails are like clay baths and very busy again as everyone got new walking boots for Xmas. Everyone is trying their best.

You never know Op you might like jogging if you tried it. I had never run before, couldn’t run from one lamp post to the next but as I’m getting older thought I needed to do something and try to stay fit. My kids now road cycle too. The snout if shit they get just for riding on the road is unbelievable. I’ve tried it a few times and once got slapped on the arse by a white van passenger as they drive past. It’s not great out there.

DuzzyFuck · 03/01/2021 10:52

Run on the pavement or park pathways then we're ignorant selfish covid-shedders (the fact that covid symptoms mean anyone actively suffering is very unlikely to be out running is neither here nor there) yet run on the road and we're also selfish twats. Gyms are closed.

What do you suggest OP? Come on.

LolaSmiles · 03/01/2021 10:53

I generally guess that most joggers or cyclists who drive are in the group of drivers who drive safely, overtake properly, don't speed up when they see someone jogging across a road that was evidently clear when they started it. Of course there's lots of very considerate drivers who aren't arseholes and who don't run or cycle too.

I think those drivers who think their car makes them king and get angry at other people having the audacity to use the roads are probably the people who get irrationally angry at anyone exercising anywhere other than a gym. They give the impression of people who would be whining about runners in a park just 20 minutes after whining about runners they saw as they drove to the park

A much loved member of our community here was run over and killed whilst out cycling by a motorist who couldn't see properly due to sun glare and hadn't slowed down sufficiently.

In your own words OP 'can you imagine the hassle' his wife, children and family have gone through?

For shame. Drive carefully and be considerate of more vulnerable road users who have as much right to be there as you do.

GreenlandTheMovie · 03/01/2021 11:15

@randomer

What on earth do you wear? Stilettos and a mini skirt?

I don't know if you're aware, but fashion has changed this century. A vast number of people choose to wear "athleisurewear" for any non formal occasion. Because we have modern fabrics now.

You must look very overdressed when out and about.

MrsDThomas · 03/01/2021 11:33

Where i run (i don't “jog” i run and many runners hate the term jogging) i don’t have the luxury of a pavement. You’d love it up here then. Dodging runners, walkers, cows and sheep.

randomer · 03/01/2021 11:39

@GreenlandTheMovie, t'was merely a jape.

CakeRequired · 03/01/2021 11:46

"All this 'you couldn't be driving if you can't see the road' is ridiculous"

Jesus Christ, THIS is why so many people are killed on the roads. Please don't tell me you own a car?

That really just makes you sound stupid. She said she was driving, so she owns a car. Was that not obvious or something?

And what do you do if there is glare on the road from the sun and rain? Just stop dead and refuse to move until the sun goes away? Hmm

She carried on driving slower, which is what you should do. People are killed on roads more often by fast drivers or drunk drivers, not drivers crawling along because of sun glare.

ivykaty44 · 03/01/2021 11:54

we are also almost all motorists and pay taxes to fund the roads.

Taxes from council tax fund the local roads, motorways are funded by general taxation and only motorised vehicles can use. All householders pay towards the upkeep of the highways regardless of whether they catch the bus or walk

dontdisturbmenow · 03/01/2021 11:59

I'm an avid runner and fully agree with you OP. I see people running in the road, headphones on, totally oblivious to their surroundings.

It's irresponsible and dangerous.

Rightsaidmabel · 03/01/2021 12:18

Peaked cap anyone?

Bunnyrun5 · 03/01/2021 12:19

I’ve seen some very lovely male bottoms that’s a distraction for us lady drivers, no complaints from me I love a firm thigh!

And those Lycra clad bottoms on road bikes. I will sit behind a male cyclist for miles rather than over take 😂
UrAWizHarry · 03/01/2021 12:36

Cars don't own the roads. Yes, anyone on the road should take measures to be visible and not act like a dick but ultimately it's the responsibility of the person in the 2 tonne battering ram to be watching out for vunerable road users.
