Bloody joggers

I've had enough of them.
Today I was going to pick my daughter up and these idiots are all over the road.
The sun was very low today and it was very hard too see the road.
I swear I nearly knocked 2 idiots down who were running on the road.
I get people need to get out and keep fit but keep to the bloody pavements and if the pavement is too icy then bloody stay at home and stop putting road users at risk.
I mean can you imagine the hassle a driver would be put through if we ran over one of these selfish idiots...either stay on the pavements or stay indoors..

When you're in control of a vehicle (or animal) and everyone around you is behaving like idiots it can be frightening
Just because you're the driver that doesn't mean you should have to be a nanny looking out for every other sod on the road

If a driver is frightened of unexpected obstructions, they really should not be driving. This has it's very own section on the driving test. Hazard perception. They make sure you're very good at it before they let you pass your test. There's no mention of nannying or sods.

christinarossetti19 · 02/01/2021 22:19

I run, cycle and drive on roads.

There are runners, cyclists and drivers who behave recklessly or who, probably more often to be honest, make mistakes because they're distracted.

In all three scenarios, you have to be the one in control of your behaviour and run/cycle/drive defensively.

Use lights, wear hi-viz, don't have ear phones in, keep your eyes and ears open.

Especially if you're driving, as you're the one who could cause most harm to others.

Joggers on here are so angry- not enough oxygen to the brain probably.

Cam77 · 02/01/2021 22:20

@Blibbyblobby
Exactly, everybody needs to use roads sometimes, especially around residential areas. Drivers need to pay attention to the wider environment in such areas, IE activity on pavements and adjust their speed accordingly.

Bargebill19 · 02/01/2021 22:21

Personally I don’t mind other road users - provided they are sensible and single file.
Sadly we have a cohort of walkers who think that it’s fine to walk down country lanes four or five abreast - right across the width of the road.
They totally fail to move for approaching cars, thinking they have priority. Given some of the speeding motorists we have- it’s only a matter of time before someone is seriously hurt.

cyclingmad · 02/01/2021 22:22

As with any road user you must be visible so for car drivers that means lights on; for cyclists its lights and reflective clothing as much as possible to ensure you are seen! So if you want to jog on the road its your responsbility to make sure your visible so reflective tops and tights.

Of course we should all make sure we look out for other road users but in pitch balck dark esp when its raining its nigh on almost impossible to see cyclists or people on scooters if they have zero reflective clothing or lights on. Noone is wanting to deliberately hit someone or hurt them but its incredibly difficult to spot smaller objects moving if they are dressed in dark clothing.

Each of us has a responsbility to ensure we do not put ourselves in harms way as well. So do everything you can to ensure your visible to road users.

That’s exactly what it means, as you’re the only one driving a ton of metal around at 30mph+

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 02/01/2021 22:24

They don’t run in the road around here. 99 times out of 100 they keep going dead straight on a narrow pavement, puffing and panting their potentially lethal breath a foot away from the person on the inside, even when it’s the sort of very quiet road when you could walk down the middle of it for a minute or two, no problem.

If I see or hear them coming, I’m the one walking down the middle of the road, but all too often they’re there before I’ve realised.
I bloody hate the lot of them.

Ltdannygreen · 02/01/2021 22:24

@Kassalah

I thought this thread was going to be about blood-stained jogging bottoms 😄

Annoying, but you shouldn't drive if you can't see where you're going - you could have crashed into a parked car for example.

Same 🤣
frumpety · 02/01/2021 22:24

Roads are for everyone, no matter how they want to move around.

Would you say that to a child ? Just cross the road whenever you want , that car/bus/lorry/cyclist will be able to stop as soon as you step out into the road and if they can't they shouldn't be there ?

I have no problem with anyone else being on the road as long as they are visible ( looking at a section of the male population who believe they are invincible and completely visible at dusk in dark clothing with no lights on their bikes ) , join the road system with the same amount of care and due diligence as other road users, so not leaping off the pavement into oncoming traffic because pausing their run for 30 seconds is unthinkable, it is generally seen as good practice not to cause other highway users to have to suddenly brake or take evasive action because of your actions, regardless of your mode of transportation.

Hmm I wonder how many posters have ‘ Be Kind’ stickers on their FB profile?! Confused

Mintjulia · 02/01/2021 22:27

If you can't see, you are at fault. You need to buy some sunglasses or drive at a different time of day. If you know you can't see, you need to pull over and wait, like any competent driver.

As for bloody joggers, does that include walkers and cyclists too? Children? When does blaming someone else stop?

whoamIamIalright · 02/01/2021 22:29

I saw three different joggers out tonight after dark wearing black. When I say I saw three I only just saw them because you know it was pitch black, on a country lane and they were out jogging in all black, one with absolutely no reflective material or lights on. Were they joggers or ninjas? Seriously walking or jogging on roads at night in all black is really dangerous and stupid! Even with full beam on you only see them as you get really close. I want to just buy them a high-vis vest, stop this madness. Very glad not to have run them over. I’m not anti-jogger and my eyesight is fine before anyone attacks me. When I exercise at night I put a reflective tabard on, not hard to come by I think mine was a fiver from the local country supplies store, I’m sure you could get one from Amazon if you prefer.

Quite. Lots of people hate lots of other people for things they would do themselves if they were in the same situation. For those of you who hate all the runners, have you tried going running?
Hippopotas · 02/01/2021 22:30

Wow the vilification of runners on here is escalating and I’m appalled. It seems us runners cant do right for doing wrong.

Run on the pavements - inconsiderate
Run in the park - inconsiderate
Run on the road - inconsiderate

I despair at the nasty discrimination and hatred that seems rife on here.

OverByYer · 02/01/2021 22:31

Exactly @Hippopotas

DinkyDiggies · 02/01/2021 22:33

Bloody Boris and all those clowns in Government. My pool and gym closed NYE as in tier 4. Going to do couch to 5k. The eff all else I can do.

Livelovebehappy · 02/01/2021 22:33

Pretty sure that pedestrians aren’t even supposed to be on the road unless crossing it to get to the other side? That’s what pavements are for. Whether you re running or walking. YANBU OP.

badpuma · 02/01/2021 22:37

@Livelovebehappy - you're not quite right about the Highway Code there. Pedestrians are allowed to use the road, although pavements should be used where provided. It's only motorways and skip roads where pedestrians are not allowed to be .

I really hope you don’t drive if that’s what you think. You do know not all roads have pavements.
cyclingmad · 02/01/2021 22:41

End of the day make sure your visible to road users its as simple as that. Would you allow your child out cycling or running in the road without reflective stuff on? I doubt it so why do you as an adult think your invincible.

CakeRequired · 02/01/2021 22:44

I'm fine with joggers and cyclists on the road, if they are visible.

I saw a jogger this morning on the road, well just saw them.. It was dark and what were they wearing? Black. All black. Oh they had a tiny bit of hi vis on their back hence why I could see them, because they were on the other side of the road running into oncoming traffic, away from me. So I could see the hi vis, but the drivers that might hit them couldn't. How moronic can you get? Seem many cyclists out at night too, no lights on, no hi vis.

A hi vis vest costs £2. Is your life not worth £2? Confused I'm sure the trainers they are wearing cost more, plus their fancy outfit that camouflages them. The bikes cost hundreds, if not thousands. Just put some bloody hi vis on, then you are clearly visible and it's so much safer.

XDownwiththissortofthingX · 02/01/2021 22:52

Second only to cyclists in the 'things it should be perfectly legal to mow down on the road' stakes

randomsabreuse · 02/01/2021 22:53

I'm a runner, cyclist and horse rider as well as a driver. In all situations I'm pretty defensive in my actions - bright clothes, body lights (running), appropriate lights (bike), hi Viz etc.

I also anticipate fairly well - just last week I avoided an accident in low sun - a 4x4 was approaching a parked car and didn't look like they'd stop. I assumed they weren't planning to give way, covered the brake and they drove into the parked car, very nearly rolled the 4x4... I stopped well before being level with them so wouldn't have been hit even if they'd rolled it. I've still had near misses with unlit cyclists/runners in freezing fog at night (bloody difficult to see). Dappled shade and low sun are also difficult conditions - best avoided for recreational outings - although dappled shade is less of an issue if you wear brights.

Having driven (and walked) local roads this week I don't trust the roads or pavements for grip - plenty of patches of black ice to catch the unwary! Even without traffic hazards I'd prefer to run somewhere softer/grippier where I'm less likely to pick up an avoidable injury which will keep me out longer than the cold weather!
