Bloody joggers

Credenhill22 · 02/01/2021 21:02

I've had enough of them.
Today I was going to pick my daughter up and these idiots are all over the road.
The sun was very low today and it was very hard too see the road.
I swear I nearly knocked 2 idiots down who were running on the road.
I get people need to get out and keep fit but keep to the bloody pavements and if the pavement is too icy then bloody stay at home and stop putting road users at risk.
I mean can you imagine the hassle a driver would be put through if we ran over one of these selfish idiots...either stay on the pavements or stay indoors..

You are completely right, it is dangerous for anyone to be jogging on the road - that is what pavements are for

Fizbosshoes · 02/01/2021 22:58

I thought this was going to be a thread about tracksuit bottoms...

I run and at the moment there are lots of people out for walks if the weather is nice, so to create a suitable distance, I often run in the road. I also run on country lanes with no pavements. AS soon as I hear or see a car I wait on a verge or get back onto the pavement.
MN seems to hate runners wherever they are.

@Hippopotas

Wow the vilification of runners on here is escalating and I’m appalled. It seems us runners cant do right for doing wrong.

Run on the pavements - inconsiderate
Run in the park - inconsiderate
Run on the road - inconsiderate

I despair at the nasty discrimination and hatred that seems rife on here.

Being a runner isn't a protected characteristic. I think you'll survive.

Ok, I’ll admit to being triggered. OP I understand it’s frustrating if people run out in front of you when driving however try and be considerate for others and what they are going through right now. I for example have to run regularly otherwise I’d have to be on very strong anti depressants, or suicidal. Not exaggerating. The gyms are shut, our local parks are tiny and full of people, as is my regular running route where I now get tutted at for being too close to other people who usually walk in the middle of the path. There is ice and mud in the fields which makes them pretty impossible to run in right now. Running has literally been the only thing that has kept me sane this year, I tried stopping and ended up going to the GP and asking her to put me down. Not asking for sympathy just remember everyone has had a hard year and running/jogging is not the worst thing people could be doing to stay sane right now. And yes I jump into the verge and wear hi viz etc.

badacorn · 02/01/2021 23:03

I agree people shouldn’t be running or walking in the road if there’s a pavement.
BUT.. Buy yourself sunglasses so you can drive in the low sun without putting others at risk

LoveMyKidsAndCats · 02/01/2021 23:05

Ugh no i don't want them on the pavement panting in my face as they pass. They can stick to the road 😂

ifIwerenotanandroid · 02/01/2021 23:05

I still remember the daytime runner who ran over a bit of grass to the edge of the road opposite us, looked both ways & ran straight into our path. We managed to stop. He had earphones in & a glazed expression on his face. They aren't all perfect.

And don't get me started on cyclists who travel in single or double lines, half a dozen in line on narrow, twisting country lanes - & wave me round them into the path of oncoming traffic. I stay behind them until it's safe & boy, do they get upset that I'm there. Look guys, if you make yourself into something the legth of an articulated lorry, I'm not going to be able to get round you until there's some straight, clear road.

PreRaphaeliteMotherhood · 02/01/2021 23:06

90% of the roads around me don’t have pavements (live rurally) so should I drive somewhere with pavements (and thus far busier with people who don’t want me running near them either usually)?

High vis jacket/top, head torch, handheld torch with red rear light... I’m pretty bloody visible.

Just to clarify - did the GP refuse? Because if being put down by the GP is an option, I would love to know.

Well aren’t you a charmer? Personally, in the interests of road safety I think drivers who can’t be bothered to drive safely should have their cars compacted with them still inside

I suppose everyone could buy a treadmill and run indoors but that would make them inconsiderate to neighbours...?
Misskittykat · 02/01/2021 23:19

@Hijoso

I was coming on to say I've been struggling a lot to find nice but affordable joggers
Me too.... try Hush 😁
Cherrysoup · 02/01/2021 23:29

Had a classic yesterday driving down a very rural road (essential journey) at 4.30, so pitch black. No streetlights, no pavement. Bloke in all black clothing, in a wheelchair. I very nearly took him out! I mean, obviously he needed to go somewhere, but bloody hell, wear hi-viz, a light, something reflective!!

UrAWizHarry · 02/01/2021 23:32

Regardless of hi-vis or anything else, if you can't fucking see what is in the road in front of you, you slow down.

Coffeeandcocopops · 02/01/2021 23:32

I run in the road to avoid walkers. It gives families with prams space as they can’t move over.

DipSwimSwoosh · 02/01/2021 23:38

I went for a run tonight. I tried the pavements but they were icy. So I ran in the road. I wasn't going to stay at home so the road could be nice and clear for cars. I did step onto the pavement every time I saw a car, but it was very slippery.

Pinkandwhiteblossom · 02/01/2021 23:40

I ran 10km today (so clearly am spawn of the devil). I deliberately chose a route with quite busy roads as they tend to have less pedestrian traffic. It took me a little under an hour and I deliberately went in the late afternoon as it was getting dark as I hoped there would be fewer people out and about. In the time I was out I:

  • was forced into the road by a dog who was not under control and the choice was that, or run into his owner as it was bizarrely on a lead.
  • was forced into the road by four groups of people walking fully abreast the pavement, two of whom swore at me as I came up behind them and said "Excuse me please." The other two just ignored me.
  • ran into the road, having checked both directions to provide space to people coming towards me.

Yes, I was wearing hi-vis clothing, and the streets were well lit, so I wasn't exactly inconspicuous.

Running is essential for my mental and physical health, but particularly my mental health. My counselor agrees.

There are plenty of idiots about at the minute, and maybe we should all try to be a bit kinder to one another OP, rather than cursing them.

Ihatefish · 02/01/2021 23:40

The trouble with people doing high intensity exercise whilst dodging tons of metal rightfully travelling on the road is that the jogger’s adrenaline is built up, they think they have the right to play chicken (and chance of winning) with the hunk of metal. Many joggers running past you emit a whole force field of aggression as the go past. I don’t think they’re actually aware of it, but it can be very difficult for others trying to use the same space.

Has mn become less tolerant or am I just unlucky on the threads I click on? I can’t imagine being so annoyed by a jogger that by the time I got home I’d start a mn thread.

bigpricklyfern · 02/01/2021 23:46

I was out running today and had to go in the road numerous times to avoid pairs of people who were taking up the whole of the (wide) pavement. People hate runners where I live (as well as cyclists) and heaven forbid you say ‘excuse me’ to a pedestrian. You would be slated all over the community Facebook groups for your rudeness and entitlement!

bigpricklyfern · 02/01/2021 23:48

Haha pinkandwhite, it seems we have encountered similar problems today.

TheSmallAssassin · 02/01/2021 23:52
