Bloody joggers

Credenhill22 · 02/01/2021 21:02

I've had enough of them.
Today I was going to pick my daughter up and these idiots are all over the road.
The sun was very low today and it was very hard too see the road.
I swear I nearly knocked 2 idiots down who were running on the road.
I get people need to get out and keep fit but keep to the bloody pavements and if the pavement is too icy then bloody stay at home and stop putting road users at risk.
I mean can you imagine the hassle a driver would be put through if we ran over one of these selfish idiots...either stay on the pavements or stay indoors..

Oh and I say this as a former runner who had it drummed into her from age 14 that you always stick to the pavements and respect other walkers/drivers/cyclists.

Eckhart · 02/01/2021 22:01

I think people dislike what they are not. So, when you get in the driver's seat, cyclists are annoying, but then when you get on your bike, drivers are annoying.

OP is not a runner, and does not understand a runner's point of view.

hansgrueber · 02/01/2021 22:01

@GinAndTonicOnIt

OP I wish I had your problems Hmm

Buy some sunglasses.

You sound jealous, are we not very fit?

You sound as moronic as the 'joggers', they also have little or no hearing as of course the outfit requires the inevitable music to perform to. Were a driver to decide to use the pavements there'd be an outcry, although those other performers, the lycra Mafia, seem to consider it their territory.
Eckhart · 02/01/2021 22:01

@PyongyangKipperbang

Runners are the new cyclists.

They own the road, didnt you know?! They can ignore all road rules that us mere drivers have to obey, and when some poor fucker hits them when they were dressed all in black on a dark road, not on the pavement and running the wrong way (not into oncoming traffic) straight over a junction it will be the drivers fault.

What are the road rules for runners?
Cassimin · 02/01/2021 22:02

I live by a really big park, the pavement around it is lovely and flat, ideal for jogging but some still go on the road. I don’t go out in the car much at night but have had to recently, if they have dark clothing on you can’t see them until you are really close, also lots of bikes with no lights. Could it be some of these people started their fitness campaigns in lockdown when the roads were empty and the nights were light?

AIMD · 02/01/2021 22:02

@OhDear2200

Why are people so cross at the moment? Have we got no tolerance for anyone any longer?

You do realise that “joggers” are people? That most people are generally ok, and nice? Just like most drivers.
Jesus, take some deep breaths and save your anger for something real.

Yep!
PyongyangKipperbang · 02/01/2021 22:02

@Eckhart

They have none, and thats the problem

Eckhart · 02/01/2021 22:03

What would you like them to be?

Hijoso · 02/01/2021 22:06

I was coming on to say I've been struggling a lot to find nice but affordable joggers

PyongyangKipperbang · 02/01/2021 22:06

To wear appropriate reflective clothing, which some do but many dont. To only run on the road when there is no pavement available (and that doesnt mean when others are on it so they can just jink into the road without looking and then flag a driver who almost hits them) and when on a road with no pavement, to run into the traffic as walkers and runners have always been advised to do.

Simple and safer for everyone concerned.

Gobbeldegook · 02/01/2021 22:06

Be nice if the cars would stay on the road too. Nothing worse than trying to jog safely on the pavement but you can't cause its full of cars ignorantly parked

FuckPolitenessSSDGM · 02/01/2021 22:07

FFS, this icy weather won't last forever. I doubt the runner will pack on 4 stone and get dvts because they don't run for a week during the freezing weather. There are other ways to exercise during the current restrictions.

I'm with you OP. It's dangerous and stupid to run on roads, especially when driving conditions are more challenging.

woodbeez55 · 02/01/2021 22:07

Where I live, we don't have pavements to run on throughout the village, so sometimes we're forced to run on the road. And I swear that many drivers see runners as a 'fun' target. It takes a couple of minutes for a driver to safely go round a runner. Why can't you just take that time and then carry on with your day, leaving us to enjoy our sport? YABU

PyongyangKipperbang · 02/01/2021 22:07

That is, run into the direction of the traffic rather than actually into cars, obviously.

badpuma · 02/01/2021 22:09

"Our park , which is covered on three sides by A roads, is over 450 acres... plenty of room for all . Cyclists use it for on and off road, dog walkers stick to the fields and the paths are totally clear for joggers who only need to shift a few feet to get past a pram as the paths are very wide. "

How nice for you. Perhaps you don't realise that that is not the case for everyone? The only park near to me is the size of one playing field and that is churned up by dog walkers so is now a swamp of mud and dog shit.

frumpety · 02/01/2021 22:09

If you are running on the footpath and encounter an obstacle, why is it ok to jump off the footpath into the road when there is oncoming traffic , surely it is safer to stop running for a moment and manoeuvre around the obstacle when safe to do so ?

TheOrigRights · 02/01/2021 22:10

I am a runner not a jogger Grin

I live in a village. Unless I do laps of the village I have to run on the road. I love it.

A road surface has more give than the pavement so if it's safe to do so I will opt to run on the road even if there is a pavement.

I do my very best to keep myself and other road users safe.
e.g. there are local roads I don't run on at busier times of day.

I always ensure I am visible and that I can see, but there are some conditions where this is tricky. One is low, bright sun and the other is fog.

Regarding the sun, I am aware that cars may not be able to see me if they are dazzled by the sun. Whether or not they should be driving at at doesn't matter - it'll be that's dead not them. So I take evasive action (jump on the verge or something).
In thick fog I won't run on the roads at all, because there's no way I can be seen. No number of lights, high viz or reflective gear makes a difference in fog.

Againstmachine · 02/01/2021 22:10

Kinda is the drivers fault in the OPs case, when in the OPs own admission they can't see because of the sun.

Eckhart · 02/01/2021 22:10

I think most regular runners do most of that stuff most of the time. The streets are currently jam packed with people who would normally be in the gym. They're learning. P'raps they'll get picked off if they don't pick up the rules quick enough Wink
Burnthurst187 · 02/01/2021 22:11

They're allowed on the road, get over it

MushMonster · 02/01/2021 22:11

If they were running in the road, then thay are unreasonable. They should stock to the pavement.
If there is no pavement, then there should not be any running taking place.
I have to confess I sometimes step into the road when I cross other pedestrians, walking, to allow for SD, but I check no car is anywhere near before doing so.

WhatTiggersDoBest · 02/01/2021 22:13

I'm sorry that you're getting pasted OP. I go running (I only started this year but I'm a longtime long-distance cyclist and occasional horse rider). There are rules for cyclists, rules for pedestrians and rules for drivers to follow. When you're in control of a vehicle (or animal) and everyone around you is behaving like idiots it can be frightening.
Just because you're the driver that doesn't mean you should have to be a nanny looking out for every other sod on the road.

TooBored · 02/01/2021 22:13

Roads are for everyone, no matter how they want to move around. If you can't drive safely, don't get behind a wheel.

TheOrigRights · 02/01/2021 22:13

I have run safely on the roads for 30 years. I am not stupid and running is not just about weight or dvts.
DimidDavilby · 02/01/2021 22:14

If you can't see a jogger, you wouldn't see a cyclist or a stray child. F you can't see don't bloody drive! You should get some sunglasses.
