It’s just me, so would I BU to say fuck cooking, throw caution to the wind and have hot chocolate and a picky tea?

Yeah fuck it, life's too short to cook when you can't be arsed.

What will you have in your picky tea?

I like a bit of cheese and maybe olives and some Jacobs crackers when I'm having a picky tea.

MaskingForIt · 02/01/2021 18:12

A hot chocolate and a cup of tea? Won’t you be weeing all evening?

What about having some food?

Ilovefriday · 02/01/2021 18:12

Sounds like a great idea! We are having haloumi burgers.

TiggerOfThigh · 02/01/2021 18:13

Looks lovely! But if that’s cheese, there’s not enough bread!!

Terracottasaur · 02/01/2021 18:13

You don’t need anyone else’s permission to do this...

ElDanglio · 02/01/2021 18:13

Queen that cheese looks so good!

TiggerOfThigh · 02/01/2021 18:13

I’ve got pringles, quiche, grapes and mini scotch eggs!

Bezzi · 02/01/2021 18:14

Sounds like a perfectly well balanced meal to me

ElDanglio · 02/01/2021 18:15

Quiche is excellent picky tea fodder!

TheScurrilousFunge · 02/01/2021 18:16

As long as you eat five grapes, you've had your give a day

TheScurrilousFunge · 02/01/2021 18:16

FIVE a day. Hard to type with a toddler perched actually on your shoulder (who's also waving a foot around near your phone).

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 02/01/2021 18:17

Perfect meal for one. I only cook properly if there's more than me.

Once in a blue moon dh and I will have fed the kids earlier and say "shall we just sort our own teas out tonight?" Usually because he fancies a beige dinner. So I have cheese, crackers, pate and chutney and wine

AlwaysLatte · 02/01/2021 18:17

I keep hearing about picky teas, what is it?? Is it using things up from the fridge?
We're using up roast potatoes from last night's dinner chopped up with paprika and sautéed. And chicken cacciatore which as usual I have to cook just the sauce first and blend it before putting the chicken and prosciutto because my two 'don't like onions' (yes you do, they're on your plate only you don't know 😜)
I love the idea of baked Camembert. Might steal that idea for lunch tomorrow!

QueenPawPaws · 02/01/2021 18:18

Lidl cheese, definitely recommend!

And I’ve had some lamb, so that’s officially all the food groups!

@AlwaysLatte Picky teas are a joy. They are made of bits from your fridge - either bought for the purpose or leftovers - and are wonderful. They can make for some unusual combinations but are always worth it.

ElDanglio · 02/01/2021 18:19

Always a 'picky tea' consists of 'picky bits' .

It's important to understand!

AlwaysLatte · 02/01/2021 18:20

Ooh @queen is that good? My fondue set needs to come out pronto. My dad said wistfully the other day that he hasn't had one for years ♥️

murasaki · 02/01/2021 18:20

We've had salmonella corner (yellow sticker) XMas picky bits for lunch for most of last week. Yum.

Nigella pork chops with mustard cider and cream tonight, but only as I have run out of picky bits

TiggerOfThigh · 02/01/2021 18:20

@AlwaysLatte a picky tea is stuff you don’t need a fork for, so, cold meats, cheese, bit of fruit, bread, etc etc
Also known as, can’t be fucking arsed

I keep hearing about picky teas, what is it??

It is a grim MN turn of phrase for a sort-of ploughman’s style of dinner. A plate of “picky bits” will look like what you have at a buffet, but will be the scrapings of your own fridge.

TheScurrilousFunge · 02/01/2021 18:21

@murasaki Salmonella corner Grin

saffire · 02/01/2021 18:21

I thought I was the only one who called it a picky tea! I did it last night. And had the leftovers for lunch today.

Justmuddlingalong · 02/01/2021 18:22

We had the roast beef, yorkshires etc tonight that should have been the New year's Day dinner yesterday. But, we had a "fuck it let's have a picky tea" day yesterday.
