To really hate the loud, selfish celebrations & fireworks people have outside on NYE?

I'm laid in bed exhausted and pissed off.

My autistic three year old has been woken three times in the run up to midnight, by endless fireworks exploding outside our house, so loud and close that they terrified him out of a deep sleep. By the third time he was woken he was so distressed he was smashing his head on the floor Sad

In between the hundreds of bangs coming from all angles there are drunk people screaming "happy new year!" and "woohoooooo!" that can be heard in here as clear as day, as though they think it's welcome, or simply don't care.

Not everybody is seeing in the new year by getting drunk, and not all of those who are having a drink feel the need to take their fanfare into the street, giving not one shit about elderly/vulnerable neighbours or people who have to be up for work.

Do you think I'm being unreasonable?

@PrincessNutNuts

It sounded old the bloody blitz round here.

And people are clearly having parties.

Fucking covid-spreading wankers.

Loads of parties round here too. Really annoying that people are STILL behaving this way after months and months of us trying to pull through this.

Partying whilst on mumsnet? What a hoot. Do you sit on your phone when you go to the pub too, cyclingmad?

Then, with respect, you don't have the first idea what it is like.

With respect you have no idea if I don’t or not from the two posts I’ve posted to based you’re unfounded opinion.

I can categorically state you are incorrect in your opinion, but simply can’t be bothered to argue black and white.

SendHelp30 · 01/01/2021 01:21

@LdnMum94 streaming the same song the DJ is playing through her headphones 😂

cyclingmad · 01/01/2021 01:22

@FrostyChocolateMilkshake no no sarcasm, im on my own dancing the night awayGrin plenty of great djs streaming come join in its fun!

And well hey if my neighbours think its acceptable to do loud video calls in their garden early mornings and evenings all through summer I think one night of music isn't going to harm them its news yrs after all

StormcloakNord · 01/01/2021 01:22

Are you my neighbour @cyclingmad ?

My neighbour constantly has loud, annoying, in-your-face parties. Unbelievably annoying and a total slap in the face that she's a carer and we've had multiple COVID breakouts in nearby care homes.

I wish she would lose her fucking job & be forced to sell the house and move out. Dream scenario.

DaphneBridgerton · 01/01/2021 01:22

YABU because it's new year... It's a celebration... People are allowed to be happy and loud and cheerful one evening a year surely? I think you are unreasonable to call people selfish when you clearly are only concerned with your own situation... Therefore you're being selfish too. By the way, I get where you are coming from I just think it's a bit hypocritical

With you on the fireworks. Started at 5pm and still going now at almost 1:30am. DDog did well until about 11pm and has been crying and weeing since then. Celebrating the end of 2020 is one thing, no need for "rocket bombs" or whatever.

Misbeehived · 01/01/2021 01:23

Fireworks here have just finished. Just annoying. I can’t imagine what it is to be in your distressing situation. I hope you and your son are alright.

I don’t think you are being unreasonable at all. Irrespective of whether you are or aren’t unreasonable I wanted to offer support as there are some revolting comments on this thread. Wishing you all the best.

MountainDweller · 01/01/2021 01:25

Why are people celebrating? Do they think Covid and Brexshit magically disappeared on the stroke of midnight? 2021 is going to be horrible. Most depressing New Year in my lifetime.

HappyDays10101 · 01/01/2021 01:26

You'll always have the selfish cunts and the moaning cunts

This!

PrincessNutNuts · 01/01/2021 01:27

We've got a party just down the hill still setting off fireworks.

turnthebiglightoff · 01/01/2021 01:28

Just because you might not have something to celebrate, doesn't stop others being optimistic. YABU; I'm sorry your son is distressed but honestly did you not expect fireworks?!

I misread your post (too much wine tonight!) and thought you were throwing a party. My bad! Sorry. Enjoy your one-man disco (I understand why you'd want to get back at neighbours; some of mine are dreadful and I'd love to be as bold as you to piss them off right back Wink )

lulad · 01/01/2021 01:29

Yeah and I was being deadpan.

I guess it was funny in your head...

Party near us too - setting off fireworks. Who gives a fuck that it's half 1 in the morning aye? Angry
grisen · 01/01/2021 01:30

I’ve just moved away from the UK and in all my years in the UK I’ve never heard anything in comparison to bombing or guns being shot. And for the past 10-ish years only heard a handful of fireworks a year outside of organised displays at summer.

We’ve had fireworks from 5pm and still going strong at 1:30am. The way people here deal
With it is going to the countryside if they have to.

MichelleScarn · 01/01/2021 01:30

Same but fed up with feeling depressed and shit
cyclingmad · 01/01/2021 01:31

Oooohhhhhhh I can multitask, take a break from dancing.

Funny I can be in my house on my own partying away and your so miserable you think I shouldn't be.

There has been quite a bit to celebrate in my life so I will thank pandemic or not

And if I was real selfish arsehole then I would of been banging our my music for every event I've tuned into the entire year instead I haven't ive been wearing my headphones but today I'm not going to.

So im partying in my house on my own having a good time popped here whilst having a short break from dancing

If you wanna be miserable be miserable but others don't have to be

BarcelonaFreddie · 01/01/2021 01:32

Actually I half retract my post. We are on a small estate and fireworks went off for about half an hour before and half an hour after the bells.
It was lovely and not too much.
I can imagine that I'd be losing the rag if it was all night, until late and more noise than good to look at.
It's been a strange old year. People will have gone overboard on fireworks as literally feels like nothing else to do. Can't have anybody round. Can't go anywhere for a meal. Can't go out for a drink or a dance,
