I feel January the 1st is when Christmas ends for and when I take my decorations down.

I donlt see January as a dreary month.
Still cold enough to enjoy all the winter things- snow, cosy socks, hot chocolate, but the light is soft, and every night is shorter, and just a short time to Imbolc- where we can celebrate the first whispers of spring.

lachy · 31/12/2020 19:18

Ours is coming down tomorrow. Normally I'd leave them until 6th January but we're moving house on 8th and we need to finish packing.

GarlicSoup · 31/12/2020 19:19

12th Night

CounsellorTroi · 31/12/2020 19:19

Twelfth night.

Calmandmeasured1 · 31/12/2020 19:20

12th night - 5th of January.

VinylDetective · 31/12/2020 19:22

6 January. That’s the date the decorations come down and every trace of Christmas food has to be eaten by then.

NewCatMummy · 31/12/2020 19:24

28th dec ish, can’t be doing with it up for new year or when the schools go back (not this year). Used to be an ‘up late, down late’ person, now celebrate all of December and want to be clean an clear for new year. Think it’s changed culturally over the years to start and end earlier.

WhoLettheCatOut · 31/12/2020 19:25

Usually the first week or weekend in Jan but this year everything is already down save the tree itself which will come down tomorrow.

CaptainPovey · 31/12/2020 19:27

Never started

flumposie · 31/12/2020 19:29

2nd January. Daughter's birthday is the 4th so swap Christmas decorations for birthday ones.

CountFosco · 31/12/2020 19:30

Depends when I finish eating the Christmas cake. End of January? Tonight is a nicer more laid back celebration than Christmas, kids are playing Monopoly with their uncle, we've got homemade pizza, and we'll watch family friendly films till the wee small hours. 1st and 2nd are lazy days still eating homebakes and drinking wine. Tree is collected next weekend so will come down mid week. Not looking forward to starting work again on Monday Sad.

It 'starts ending' tomorrow as that's when I start taking everything down, hopefully with the tree first so we can put the furniture back where it normally goes. But it usually takes a few days to get it all down, boxed and back upstairs to the storage room.

peboh · 31/12/2020 19:32

26th December. Only because dd birthday is on the 27th.

unchienandalusia · 31/12/2020 19:32

Twelfth night. 6th jan. This is the problem with so many people starting Christmas in fucking november. They're done with it before the season is done and it's lost its meaning.

FixItUpChappie · 31/12/2020 19:33

Today. Decorations are coming down and we will get back into more normal routine for work/school Monday. Well, such as it is with home-schooling.

MiriamMargo · 31/12/2020 19:33

27th December !

newyearisnewtome · 31/12/2020 19:36

6th Jan

RosesAndHellebores · 31/12/2020 19:36

6th Jan but our tree never goes up before 13th December and even that is a little too soon.

Ihatemyseleffordoingthis · 31/12/2020 19:38

I think I will leave the tree up till till the 6th this year, it's been a beauty, not even dropped many needles. But will clear up the rest of the bits and pieces that are starting to feel a bit cluttery tomorrow.

I'm back WFH from Saturday but as the elder 2 DC are not back at school till 11/18/who knows when I hope we can keep a bit of the cosy and laid back vibe. I think they will be glad in a way that the 6.30 mornings won't be starting for another week or so.

Angel2702 · 31/12/2020 19:41

Christmas Day. Boxing Day is son’s birthday then 27th decorations down.

Miseryl · 31/12/2020 19:44

27th Dec

Plussizejumpsuit · 31/12/2020 19:48

Tomorrow is a Bank Holiday so I try to rest tbh. To me it's when we have time off work. This was different when we used to work shifts as we might have worked over the period. But now we're doing 9 to 5 I feel Christmas is the time we're off work. So it ends on Monday when we're back to it.

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 31/12/2020 19:50

when I go back to work - so Monday 4th, I rarely work between Christmas and New Year.

I didn't have decorations this year; didn't expect to be home, but I usually take those down on 12th night.

GreekOddess · 31/12/2020 19:51

2nd January. The door wreath stays up until 6th January. I will miss the twinkly lights ☹️
