To ask when Christmas ends for you

I feel January the 1st is when Christmas ends for and when I take my decorations down.

OP posts:
Dragonglass · 31/12/2020 20:05

When I go back to work/ kids go back to school. We take the tree and decs down the weekend before, so this weekend. Christmas is only just beginning on Christmas Eve and I want to make it last a while.

I like the week between Christmas and New Year. The stress of Christmas is over and I can relax. We still have nice food and drink and we play games and watch films, getting out for some nice walks when the weather is good enough.

gingganggooleywotsit · 31/12/2020 20:08

Normally take them down on the 1st but this year has been so grim I thought I would keep the lights on and decs up a bit longer to cheer myself up, so it will be the 5th/6th

DrunkenKoala · 31/12/2020 20:10

The 2nd of Jan. New Year’s Day still feels part of the celebrations - we’ll have a roast, then chill out watching tv in the afternoon.
We’ll take the decorations down the following morning although I always take the wreath off the front door in the evening of NYD.

EasterIssland · 31/12/2020 20:11

Spanish here so 6th January. Epiphany day

umpteennamechanges · 31/12/2020 20:11

The day after Boxing Day for decorations but I keep the festive 'picky' food going until New Year's Day.

Paisley2018 · 31/12/2020 20:15

Usually I take the tree down New Years Eve. However, this year I just can’t be arsed doing it. Probably tomorrow. I always feel a bit sad once Christmas is over.

jelly79 · 31/12/2020 20:17

Back to work Monday so everything will be gone Sunday! Big clean and toy sort out today so just the decs left to do.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 31/12/2020 20:18

We don't celebrate Christmas early in December. Tree goes up a week or so before Christmas. It's lovely to still have those lights in the twilight early in the morning and later afternoon while the hours of daylight are so short. Tree comes down and all other decorations are removed on 5th January, which is Twelfth Night, as is traditional.

honeylulu · 31/12/2020 20:21

Tree stays up until twelfth night but it "feels" over once it's 2nd January to be honest.

Anotherlovelybitofsquirrel · 31/12/2020 20:24

I'd say 1st Jan is the last day of Christmas for me. Tree will come down on 3rd because we're back to work on 4th. I'm feeling quite melancholy today because it's my absolute favourite time of year and I don't want it to end

Me too. I get so sad and miss the tree etc and the lights, terribly. My very favourite time of year, just gone already!

Sojo88 · 31/12/2020 20:27

6th January

peapotter · 31/12/2020 20:37

Normally the day the kids go back to school.

Could be february this year!

ElfIsAnAss · 31/12/2020 20:39

Decs will come down tomorrow morning. All junk food/treats will be pulled out of the cupboard. Anything left at the end of the day is binned (usually next to nothing!). Back to normal on the 2nd. And that's when the diet starts too! 😆

Rosebel · 31/12/2020 20:46

Weekend before return to work and school usually but it's all a bit up in the air when they're going back so we'll just take them down this weekend.

DramaAlpaca · 31/12/2020 20:50

As long as they're all down by midnight on 5th January I'm happy.

I'm tempted to start on them tomorrow as I don't feel Christmassy any more.

GypsyLee · 31/12/2020 20:50

Tonight
Because tomorrow is another year, making xmas 2020 last year.
Always done this, just my way of thinking.

Babdoc · 31/12/2020 20:54

Twelfth night for me.
I wonder if the PPs who take everything down on Boxing Day have just started far too early, during Advent, instead of waiting til Xmas Eve, so they’re fed up with over a month of decorations before they get anywhere near Twelfth night?
I’m a bit of a traditionalist, and enjoy the twelve days of Christmas, eating all the lovely food treats and enjoying my presents, after the period of prayer, preparation and reflection that is Advent.

speakout · 31/12/2020 20:56

Babdoc

I don think many people who put up a christmas tree are thinking about advent, or indeed many other christian traditions.

thriftyhen · 31/12/2020 21:00

Twelfth Night, 6th January.

sorryforswearing · 31/12/2020 21:02

First Monday after 1st Jan. Usually when the schools go back.

Parker231 · 31/12/2020 21:07

Today - Christmas is over and now ready to start the new year.

Mustbethewine · 31/12/2020 21:07

The tree stays up until 6th of January and we'll continue enjoying christmas until then. We'll start taking all the lights in the windows down this Sunday though as its such a big job but I'm always sad to see them go.

CheeseIsMyVice · 31/12/2020 21:17

Candlemas! 2nd February Smile

RebeccaCloud9 · 31/12/2020 21:20

What?! I'm shocked hardly anyone seems to wait until 6th Jan!!

It's bizarre to me that Christmas seems to start so early these days but no one can keep it up until Epiphany!

NoParticularPattern · 31/12/2020 21:20

Decorations all come down on the 12th night but realistically it’s until the food runs out. Some time in January, possibly February if I’m lucky!
