Some real idiots on this thread.

A taxi costs money? Sure it does, but for a vaccine wouldn’t you pay a taxi fare of whatever it takes? I would.

Your dcs are asleep? Strewth. Bung them in the car. If you don’t drive - walk or take a taxi.

This is (hopefully) a once in a lifetime event and some people are whingeing .

As a pp observed, people will get up in the night to catch a flight, or pay for a pricey holiday, but can’t be arsed to go for a vaccine at an inconvenient hour or pay for a taxi - Confused

OhYouBadBadKitten · 31/12/2020 09:35

Absolutely I would - even if it meant camping out in three foot of snow with my sleeping bag. I would do anything to get this vaccine.

hiredandsqueak · 31/12/2020 09:36

No because I'm lone parent and carer to two disabled young people so would need somebody here before I could leave. Without the responsibilities though then I'd go when called.

TrafficKone · 31/12/2020 09:37

Yes, I would accept it.

SantasBritchesSpelleas · 31/12/2020 09:38

Yes, whatever time, I'd be ready and waiting.

Spudlet · 31/12/2020 09:41

Only thing that would stop me would be if they gave DH and I both appointments at that time (on the same night) - one of us would need to stay at home with DS as I wouldn’t drag him out at that time. But in principle, absolutely.

RoSEbuds6 · 31/12/2020 09:41

Hell yes! I'd start walking now to get there. To have freedom and peace of mind, and to see my mum again.

DianaT1969 · 31/12/2020 09:43

If I had a car I would. I think it's a great idea.

vanillandhoney · 31/12/2020 09:43

Some real idiots on this thread.

You're a fine one to talk. No comprehension of other people's living situation or financial circumstance. Some people can't afford to pay their bills, let alone pay for a taxi.

A taxi costs money? Sure it does, but for a vaccine wouldn’t you pay a taxi fare of whatever it takes? I would.

You're in an incredibly privileged position to have a choice. Maybe have. think about that and stop belittling people who don't have the same luxury of choice that you do.

Not everyone has access to a taxi service during the day, let alone one that would run in the middle of the night. And before you mention it, public transport isn't an option for huge parts of the country either. Our town has a train service but it doesn't run late at night, early in the mornings or on Sundays. We also don't have any form of bus service whatsoever.

If I didn't drive, I wouldn't be able to get a taxi at 2am to go on holiday either - money has nothing to do with it, they just don't exist here. Check your privilege.

mommybunny · 31/12/2020 09:43

I too would be happy to get it any time offered, and to sign up to a middle of night appointment to free up daytime slots for those who would struggle with transport. I have a car, my DH would be happy to drive me, I live in a fairly densely populated area so any vaccine centre (if not GP surgery) should be pretty close to home, and my DCs are both teenagers who would be so dead to the world at that time that leaving them alone would cause virtually no risk of them burning the house down.

Most of the decliners here had pretty reasonable excuses for doing so (and there were relatively few in any case) so if the government were looking to MN to put a finger to the wind and test public opinion on a 24/7 vaccine offer this should give some encouragement (assuming the staffing and other logistics could be worked out).

PhatPhanny · 31/12/2020 09:44

Its 1 day for some protection from this crap

Mumof2bears · 31/12/2020 09:45

Yes I would - for all the reasons above. A nighttime excursion would be quite cool actually! Would need to coordinate with DH just to make sure that his appointment didn't clash with mine (we have primary aged DC who need their kip!)

KarmaNoMore · 31/12/2020 09:47

If we can get ourselves and the kids out of bed in the middle of the night to go on holiday why not for a vaccine?

Ah yes, because bad Covid only happens to other people and this is not about me... Hmm

Let2020beoversoon · 31/12/2020 09:47

Yip, and I’d take my mum/elderly neighbour/friend if they were called then and didn’t have transport. Or sit with a friend’s children to allow him/her to go. If they offer 24 hour vaccination, we might all need to put ourselves out to make sure it gets done as quickly as possible.

Lampzade · 31/12/2020 09:48

Yes

SeasonallySnowyPeasant · 31/12/2020 09:48

Yes, absolutely.

vanillandhoney · 31/12/2020 09:51

@KarmaNoMore

Not everyone can or does do that Hmm

I could easily take a late night appointment, but only because I'm in the fortunate position of:

  • being able to drive.
  • not having any physical disabilities preventing me from getting there.
  • not being a lone parent to young children.
  • being able to re-arrange my work around a 2am appointment.
  • not having any dependents or caring responsibilities requiring me to be home in the middle of the night.
  • having decent enough eyesight to be able to drive at night.

etc etc. Not everyone is quite so privileged. But there are some nice sweeping generalisations on this thread (as per usual) and anyone bringing up perfectly legitimate objections is being being slammed and called selfish and disgusting (again, as per usual).

bubblesforlife · 31/12/2020 09:57

Tell when and where, I’ll be there!

trappedsincesundaymorn · 31/12/2020 09:59

It would depend on the weather. Where I live, driving in the winter can be hazardous as we don't get the roads gritted during icy weather. It's ok during the day but at night black ice is lethal. We have no bus service and a taxi to the nearest own (presuming that's where the vaccination centre would be), is around £40, for a return trip. I'd happily do it if conditions allowed though, not prepared to risk life and limb otherwise.

Spudlet · 31/12/2020 10:00

@KarmaNoMore I wouldn’t get DS up at stupid o’clock for a holiday either. He’s 5 years old with ASD and would struggle hugely with this. It would really affect him badly.

But please continue with your judgements, if it makes you feel better.

Roselilly36 · 31/12/2020 10:07

No way

timeforawine · 31/12/2020 10:09

Yep

PreRaphaeliteMotherhood · 31/12/2020 10:09

Yep, I’d take any appointment! Especially if it saved daytime appointments for those who were in elderly, frail, chronically ill, unable to pay for transport etc.

AllDoneIn · 31/12/2020 10:10

Yes

ancientgran · 31/12/2020 10:11

When MRI scanners first came out, about 35 years ago I think, my husband needed one but not available on NHS. A group of local Consultants bought one and it was in a caravan and travelled round local large towns/cities. DH got at appointment at 2 am and was glad to get it. They said they needed to use it 24/7 to make back the millions it had cost them.
