So - they are talking about rolling out a 24 hour vaccination process for Covid.
Your appt come through for 2:15 am.
Would you do it ?

YABU - No
YANBU - Yes

steppemum · 31/12/2020 10:11

yes, anything to get it

Lemonyfuckit · 31/12/2020 10:14

Yes, 100%. Of course during the day would be more convenient but I would accept any time day or night to get vaccinated. The sooner everyone can be vaccinated the sooner we can get back to some semblance of normal life.

Lemonyfuckit · 31/12/2020 10:16

And just to echo, as other have said, even more so if frees up daytime appointments for those that need them more, elderly, no transport etc. Just get us all vaccinated!!

yellowhighheels · 31/12/2020 10:17

*Some real idiots on this thread.

A taxi costs money? Sure it does, but for a vaccine wouldn’t you pay a taxi fare of whatever it takes? ... people will get up in the night to catch a flight, or pay for a pricey holiday*

Do you not think there might be any crossover between those who would not be able to take a taxi or attend a late night appointment and those who would not be going on pricey holidays late at night?

Surely the point of a 24hr booking system would be to provide a wider range of appointment times, including daytime slots. These could then be prioritised for people who would have difficulty travelling at night, whereas those who could, would be able to do so.

Difficulty travelling and accessing services is one example of health inequality that has to be considered when delivering a programme such as this. Not everyone has the same capabilities. This does not make those with limitations 'idiots'. Health inequality is a serious factor that has to be worked around. Another example is online booking for testing. Are very elderly/ poor/ learning disabled people 'idiots' for not being able to use or access IT, or does there need to be a workaround such as a phone line?

SparklyLeprechaun · 31/12/2020 10:17

Why not? Most people wouldn't think twice about waking up at that time to catch an early flight to go on holiday, for example.

IcyApril · 31/12/2020 10:19

Yes, it wouldn’t impact my life that much to get out of bed one night.

nothingcanhurtmewithmyeyesshut · 31/12/2020 10:19

Yes, I'd do that.

Poppingnostopping · 31/12/2020 10:20

JVT said yesterday that initially at least, we won't know whether people who've had the vaccine a) definitely won't get severely sick and b) whether they transmit the virus anyway. He was saying people won't be able to go wild once they had it.

I'm not getting up at 2am to get this vaccine, I don't think it's going to magically transform anything and I'd rather live a sensible normal daytime life. It's stupid to pay nurses/drs to stay up all night to deliver jabs as few people will go then and so pound for pound, this is inefficient. Longer working hours, yes, appointments at 10pm, fine, but getting up at 3am, no need.

IcyApril · 31/12/2020 10:20

I posted too soon.

I know it would be difficult for others though so would hope there would be a choice.

carlywurly · 31/12/2020 10:21

Hell yes. I hope it happens. I will take any appointment offered.

vanillandhoney · 31/12/2020 10:23

Read the thread. This has been gone over numerous times.

Lots of people wouldn't do that because there is no way for them to access transport at that time. You're speaking from a position of incredibly privilege.

Excellently said.

But it's ignored on threads like this, as are problems caused by rural living in situations like this.

Haggertyjane · 31/12/2020 10:25

I'd have it any time of the day or night

PinkGardening · 31/12/2020 10:28

Yes, in fact having read this thread if there are multiple times available I will choose a late night one so as to free up daytime slots for those who need them.

@Poppingnostopping surely the main point they’re making is that nothing will be transformed until a high percentage of the population has had the vaccine. The point of a possible 24/7 rollout is to get there quicker!

Toptotoeunicolour · 31/12/2020 10:31

No small children at home, working from home - of course I would accept that appointment and hopefully leave the daytime ones for those who can't take up a night time one.

wendz86 · 31/12/2020 10:31

no i'm a lone parent and would have to drag 2 kids out.

PerhapsOverlyWorried · 31/12/2020 10:33

No but I have 3 DC who would all be asleep by then and no transport. If I had no DC (or if they were older) I would though

GreekOddess · 31/12/2020 10:34

No.

Guineapig99 · 31/12/2020 10:35

Yes, I would do so that kids, the vulnerable, people with mobility issues, elderly etc could take the day appts.
I’m not in any category for priority ( lucky to be younger and healthy) so I would welcome the chance to take the vaccine. Also - we need to get cracking on this- the sooner the better and if 24 hr appts are the way to do it, I’m in.

Angel2702 · 31/12/2020 10:36

Yes if it was local and I wouldn’t need to get a lift.

steppemum · 31/12/2020 10:36

I am amazed at threads like these.

Surely the point is that those who can take any slot offered and those who can't take a daytime slot.
We do this with lots of things, people take the slots/appointments that work for them, for some daytime, for some evening, for some during school day, for some outside or working hours.

Why is everyone making such a meal of it?
I'd take a 2 am slot if it was offered, because I can, and because it frees up daytime slots for others.
My parents are unlikely to take a 2 am slot as they don't like driving at night.

Thedarknightsaredrawingin · 31/12/2020 10:37

DH, DS18 and I all could but we are lucky enough to be working or learning from home, drive, have a car etc. Not everyone is in this position.
DD’s are under 18 and require daytime appointments and a parent present.

Grellbunt · 31/12/2020 10:39

What a stupid thread and stupid answers with people taking offence where none was intended.

If you can’t get out at night then just be glad that other people will to save the daytime slots for you.

Poppingnostopping · 31/12/2020 10:40

Yes, if you have lots of spare nurses and doctors and vaccinations then all night would make sense, but we don't, so having them work (and then get tired/time off) during slow night shifts with few people turning up is not efficient. If you have staff capacity, yes, this might work. You have to have enough staff on in case someone has anaphalactic shock, quite a few people around the world have had this response, so it isn't just a question of one nurse alone and a night shift.

Exactly

People are just completely overreacting to this . I honestly cannot believe people are so hard of thinking.
