So - they are talking about rolling out a 24 hour vaccination process for Covid.
Your appt come through for 2:15 am.
Would you do it ?

YABU - No

Anyway, 24 vaccinations are a cracking idea in theory - in practice they won't work for the elderly and vulnerable who need help getting to an appointment.

Surely they would be able to take up a daytime appointment though? A few posters have touched on this but I really can't see why having more appointments will make it harder for any cross section of society.

PleasantVille · 31/12/2020 08:38

@Seriouslymole

I always wonder if these type of AIBUs are from some government minion floating ideas to see what sort of response they'd get!

Anyway, 24 vaccinations are a cracking idea in theory - in practice they won't work for the elderly and vulnerable who need help getting to an appointment.

Also, why on earth were vaccinations not started yesterday as soon as it was accepted for use? What's with the "within weeks we will have 1500 centres up and running" ? They should be up and running NOW - this has not come as a surprise.

Anyway, as you were.

I was thinking exactly the same about this being started by a government bot

Who asks a question at nearly midnight then doesn't return to the thread?

But I think you've missed the point of 24 hours vax. It's not that they would only be doing it during the night, obviously people who couldn't go at night would go during the day. They aren't going to be forcing everyone to go out at 3am and sitting twiddling their thumbs at 3pm Smile

NotQuiteUsual · 31/12/2020 08:42

I would. Sounds a bit of an exciting adventure. Might even go through the 24 hour Mcdonalds drive through for some celebratory chips.

rookiemere · 31/12/2020 08:42

Yes absolutely and must prime up DPs to accept any appointment they get and we can drive them there if any concerns. DM frequently asks for any appointment before 9.30am to be changed as she is worried about rush hour driving and having to get up early. To be fair they are in their 80s.

Cleanestcleaner · 31/12/2020 08:43

No but could be any time and I’d be declining

Useruseruserusee · 31/12/2020 08:43

Yes I would and if we were able to book our own appointments I would book a middle of the night one to leave daytime appointments free for those who do not drive.

LakieLady · 31/12/2020 08:44

@Rina66

I would and I’d happily pay for it, whatever it takes to get some normality back.
I think it would be very wrong if people able to pay for it took priority, especially as the rate, and therefore risk, of infection appears to be higher in deprived areas where incomes are lower.
BuggerationFlavouredCrisps · 31/12/2020 08:47

Yes.

Imagine how much longer it will take to get millions of people vaccinated if they only worked 12 hours a day or fewer hours?

notanothertakeaway · 31/12/2020 08:47

I don't think a 24 hour service is likely to be viable. But I would support appointments from 8am to 10pm, and I think that would be realistic

I was thinking this - it would make it even more memorable having to go out in the middle of the night! (Also, the chips are an excellent idea Grin )
Thisisnotreallymyname · 31/12/2020 08:49

BTW
I’m not a Govt minion / bot !
Saw a similar post on Twitter and thought I’d ask MN - curiosity really.
And Yes , as I’m shielded, I’d happily go out any time and get the jab.
And then it’d free up the daily appts as well for those who can’t drive / travel / have young kids.

Has this actually been suggested? I'm not sure what the point of 24/7 vaccination would be. The limiting factors are the staff to give them and distribution logistics. You don't need specialist facilities that could be run all night to gain efficiencies (like operating theatres).

Seems like the better option is to draft in additional staff (retired doctors/nurses etc), and hire some church halls. Much like you would for an election.

Paleodiet · 31/12/2020 08:49

As I am mobile, no children etc at home, I would take an appointment at any time, to leave more convenient times for other people.

FreekStar · 31/12/2020 08:51

I wouldn't- I need to be rested for work the next day- I can't do my job properly if I'm tired.

Rarotonga2 · 31/12/2020 08:53

Yes I would.

ittakes2 · 31/12/2020 08:54

I would also choose a late night appointment to allow people who can only go during the day to go. plus I am guessing the late night appointments would be less in demand so might get it sooner?

StCharlotte · 31/12/2020 08:55

Yep. Helpfully, the vaccination centre for our area is across the road from me so I'd probably only lose about half an hour's sleep Smile

Bookworming · 31/12/2020 08:56

What about the night before a day off? Presumably you don't work everyday of the week?

Frazzled2207 · 31/12/2020 08:56

Who’s “they”?
I very much doubt this will happen. But yes, without question.

Redburnett · 31/12/2020 08:57

Yes anytime at all would be fine with me.

HOkieCOkie · 31/12/2020 08:58

Yes absolutely. I’ll do whatever it takes to get back some normality.

LakieLady · 31/12/2020 08:59

@NothingIsWrong

Yes and I'd happily volunteer to ferry people around as well
I was thinking that, too. Only once I've been vaccinated though, in case I gave it to someone I was giving a lift to, or vice versa.

Our local vaccination venue is only a couple of miles from my house, but it serves a big rural area that has pisspoor (and expensive) public transport. I'd happily ferry people from the surrounding villages if they didn't have their own transport.

Splodgetastic · 31/12/2020 09:00

If I can walk to the test site, yes. I could always book the next day off work.

DollyMixtureLulus · 31/12/2020 09:01

If it was in the school holidays, yes, but I couldn’t teach after being up at that time.

MarinPrime · 31/12/2020 09:01

I think the problem will be getting enough regular supplies of the vaccine. Johnson touched on this subject when he said that all the vaccine they get will be used as soon as they get it.
There haven't been any assurances from the manufacturers that they can produce millions of vaccines per week/month etc.
