Not if I had to get up and teach the following morning!

dealornodealer · 31/12/2020 08:16

Yes. Dh has had an mri scan at 10pm before as an outpatient and I've had one at 2am as an inpatient. So it's actually a really good idea to do it 24/7 and not unusual for other procedures.

They could vaccinate older people during the day and start doing some younger groups during the night, maybe 60-70s to start with.

TableFlowerss · 31/12/2020 08:16

If someone is vulnerable and at risk if dying of covid - statistically -eg overweight/underlying condition/old then absolutely they’ll need to go any time of the day/night.

Not ideal but there’s too many people to get through abd that’s probably the fastest/safest option.

LynetteScavo · 31/12/2020 08:17

Yes, I would.

So much crazy has happened this year this wouldn't be exactly wild in comparison. I have a car so could drive myself and could cope with being tired at work the next day. I hope they wouldn't ask my elderly mother to go in the middle of the night, but she lived through WW2 and would probably consider it a but of an adventure.

Mayra1367 · 31/12/2020 08:18

Of course. I’m hoping they roll out 24 hour appointments so it can be done as quickly as possible.

Suzi888 · 31/12/2020 08:18

No, I’m happy to be last person vaccinated.

vanillandhoney · 31/12/2020 08:19

Yes - if it was safe and practical to do so.

But I live extremely rurally and nobody here has gotten the vaccine yet due to issues with getting it transported safely. I also live in a town where we still have lunchtime closing on a Wednesday so I don't hold out any kind of hope for things happening overnight 🤣

Nacreous · 31/12/2020 08:19

I do drive, so thankfully not an issue, but for this vaccine I would do whatever was necessary to get there, be that a taxi or cycling or walking as far as necessary.

To those who are saying they are HCAs/other healthcare staff or would volunteer: firstly your local GP practice may well be starting delivery shortly and may need car park marshalls etc - so you could consider getting in touch with them to volunteer to help (this is probably more likely to be on a weekday). Alternatively, local trusts (often a community trust or mental health trust) have been asked to recruit staff and volunteers for centralised sites. Recruitment is still on-going. If you work in the NHS I would ask around at work as someone should either know or be able to find out who the relevant provider is. If you don't and you want to volunteer it's worth checking the local papers or possibly asking at your local CCG. They will need lots of help, especially from health care professionals and will be very aware they would be getting support from people doing extra shifts.

It’s not just about you though is it?! Ya every one else it affects even if it doesn’t affect them.... healthy 30 year old with a bmi of 20 for example or children.
Marmite17 · 31/12/2020 08:20

Yes definitely. Keen the get the vaccine as soon as possible.

Nomoresleeps · 31/12/2020 08:20

I would in principle but I am a single parent so not sure how I could do it.

SpiderinaWingMirror · 31/12/2020 08:21

Of course.
But then I'm middle aged with my own transport and no need of childcare.......

vanillandhoney · 31/12/2020 08:21

@BumbleBeegu

Those saying 'no because I don't drive'...you have heard of taxis, right?? Ffs!! You ought to be willing to climb fucking mountains in bare feet to get this vaccine and get us out of this mess!! Jesus!!
You do realise not all parts of the UK actually have taxi services, don't you?
ChristmasinJune · 31/12/2020 08:22

As a booked appointment that I could make childcare arrangements for, yes definitely. If that's what it takes then it needs doing. As a last minute thing, it'd be 50-50 because if I'm at home alone with ds then it can't happen. Years ago our church did a 24/7 week of prayer and actually the 4-6am slot was always the hardest to fill. So I might sign up for those then go into work afterwards.

NothingIsWrong · 31/12/2020 08:24

Yes and I'd happily volunteer to ferry people around as well

hellolittlebaby · 31/12/2020 08:26

Yes, I would

TheTrashBagIsOursCmonTrashBag · 31/12/2020 08:27

Yes definitely we need to crack on and get everyone vaccinated as soon as possible. I would ask for a day appointment for my youngest child though.

PixellatedPixie · 31/12/2020 08:29

I completely agree with you! If people are able to get to airports to go on holiday at all hours or get in to hospitals early for surgeries or when in labour, then it will really enrage me if they can’t get to their vaccine appointments!

I wonder if they will ask people to volunteer to drive people to appointments. I would volunteer to help transport people in my area.

LakieLady · 31/12/2020 08:30

Not only would I accept it, I'd happily drive for the hour it takes to get to MIL's to take her to a 2am appt if it meant she could finally get out and about after 10 months.

Seriouslymole · 31/12/2020 08:31

I always wonder if these type of AIBUs are from some government minion floating ideas to see what sort of response they'd get!

Anyway, 24 vaccinations are a cracking idea in theory - in practice they won't work for the elderly and vulnerable who need help getting to an appointment.

Also, why on earth were vaccinations not started yesterday as soon as it was accepted for use? What's with the "within weeks we will have 1500 centres up and running" ? They should be up and running NOW - this has not come as a surprise.

Anyway, as you were.

MordredsOrrery · 31/12/2020 08:33

@BumbleBeegu

Those saying 'no because I don't drive'...you have heard of taxis, right?? Ffs!! You ought to be willing to climb fucking mountains in bare feet to get this vaccine and get us out of this mess!! Jesus!!
And you're going to pay for those taxis, are you? If you have to go 20-30 miles each way, for each trip (assuming you end up with a night appointment each time)? I presume you're aware that lots of people live rurally, quite a few of whom aren't able to stump up taxi fees easily?

Middle of the night appointments won't work for everyone. Health conditions, childcare, location to name just three. It doesn't mean those people don't care or don't want to do their part. It means that what's suggested is impractical for them. Given that the majority of people on this thread find night time appointments cause no inconvenience, then (should this hypothetical become reality) there are unlikely to be unfilled 2am slots.

Sertchgi123 · 31/12/2020 08:34

Any time day or night, bring it on.

Bookworming · 31/12/2020 08:34

I'd take whatever time meant I'd line up the least amount of time. I am not waiting more than 10 minutes.

I'd let you walk away and put you to the back of the queue (ie behind every other category) for that stinking attitude!

Yes I'd take whatever time and I'd say that people that are not elderly, don't need childcare etc should be taking these times voluntarily.

RoseGoldEagle · 31/12/2020 08:36

Yes, and the more people that would the quicker we’ll all get back to normal, so I think it’s a great idea

vanillandhoney · 31/12/2020 08:37

If people are able to get to airports to go on holiday at all hours or get in to hospitals early for surgeries or when in labour, then it will really enrage me if they can’t get to their vaccine appointments!

Lots of areas don't have 24/7 taxi services (if they even have taxis at all) and actually, many people in rural areas struggle to get to hospitals easily. It's actually a big problem in large parts of the country.

If I wanted to catch an early flight and didn't drive, I would have to travel down the day before and pay for a hotel. The same as if I flew back from holiday late at night. There is no late night (past about 9pm) train service and no bus service at all either. Taxis are available but there are about three that service an area about 25 miles square. They also don't run 24/7 unless you book them well in advance and pay through the nose for the privilege.

I do find it interesting that you assume everyone goes on holidays at 2am and can easily access medical treatment too.
