To think we should bring back the clapping

We seem to be in a similar position to March and the NHS is coming under serious strain. Aibu to think now is the time to bring back the clapping?

Please, no more sodding clapping. I'm sure those who are being clapped for would rather people stop spreading dangerous misinformation on social media, kept to social distancing, wear a mask and sanitising hands. Clapping is just for some to draw attention to themselves and virtue signalling.

hedgehogger1 · 31/12/2020 11:00

I think writing to your MP about adequately funding the NHS would be a better use of your time

CustardCreamm · 31/12/2020 11:06

NO. Woke my difficult-to-settle twins. Every. Single. Time.

LadyFlumpalot · 31/12/2020 11:09

No, absolutely not. Nor should we be glamourising the idea that NHS workers are heroes either. All that does is cement the idea that somehow it's fine and accepted that doctors and nurses go to work with minimum PPE and are likely to contract COVID, they are heroes, it's what they do. For the greater good and all that.

TonkinLenkicks · 31/12/2020 11:10

But the country just won't be able to afford that it doesn't mean we aren't grateful but if the money isn't there it isn't thete

@NYEPOPPER1 eh? The money IS there. It's just being spent on shit. What a ridiculous thing to say.

rooarsome · 31/12/2020 11:14

I'm a nurse- please don't.

Whammyyammy · 31/12/2020 11:17

Good god no.

Notnownotneverever · 31/12/2020 11:17

Oh fuck me NO

Foghead · 31/12/2020 11:20

No. It’s pointless and I’d rather do something that actually helps. Like donating a few quid to nhs charities.

Supersimkin2 · 31/12/2020 11:22

Wearisome enough the first time.

Let's hear it for minimum-wage delivery guys and checkout ladies. They face risk without the pay, pension or PPE.

Biffbaff · 31/12/2020 11:22

To me the clapping represents a new form of pandemic-inspired religion in our largely secular society. Clapping for the NHS is the new praying to God. "If I clap, the NHS will look after me and I'll survive covid."
Sadly it doesn't work like that.

DecemberSun · 31/12/2020 11:22

Didn't clap then wouldn't clap now.

Lemmeout · 31/12/2020 11:25

Do not spread the call.... please

Lemmeout · 31/12/2020 11:26

Clap !! Not call

Blowingagale · 31/12/2020 11:26

In general absolutely no. If front line workers come forward asking for help with campaigns I might do that.

The best thing I can do is stay home wear a mask if I’m near others and keep distance and hand washing.

If we were forced to have clapping I’d prefer one off clapping for other workers who can’t wfh - teachers, nursery staff, delivery men and women, carers, shop workers and many others.

DigitalGhost · 31/12/2020 11:26

Christ no! My local Facebook group loved to shame folk who didn't clap. Naming and shaming it was utterly bizarre.
God forbid anyone put their kids to bed at that time.

I'm not a fan of the clapping, but this seems a bit loopy.
gurglebelly · 31/12/2020 11:54

Please go no, let's not start all the virtue signalling social media nonsense again please

Lex345 · 31/12/2020 11:55

Also agree with pp about calling us heroes; it feels really, really uncomfortable. We are professionals, doing our job the best we can. A simple thank you when we get it right is worth a million clapathons and being labelled a hero. We aren't. We are just people like everyone else.

Namechanger0800 · 31/12/2020 11:56

I think 'the nhs' would prefer it if we just stayed the fuck at home and followed the spirit of the rules

gurglebelly · 31/12/2020 11:58

@RubaDubMum89

The first week of clapping was a nice gesture. After that, on my street it turned jnto a weekly competition of which twat could make the most noise for the most time. In later weeks it ended up with drum kits, pans, vuvuzelas and fireworks all at 8pm and every week without fail leaving me with a screaming child for at least an hour.

IMO YABVU. Please don't bring back that shit show

This. The knobheads round here were revving cars, beeping their horns and we had fireworks aplenty, it basically became an opportunity for idiots to be anti-social
Stompythedinosaur · 31/12/2020 11:59

Speaking as a nurse - clapping is fucking pointless. If you want to support the NHS then a) follow the rules and b) write to your MP in support of fair wages for healthcare workers.

Chimeraforce · 31/12/2020 12:00

No. It brought out all the pan bangers and competitive showbiz mummies last time.
Nope I dgaf about your 10 year old Britney or Slash wannabee spawn and even less so with microphones and amps.
One dj set up next to some poor buggers flat from 7 till 8 every Thursday last time.
Just No.
how exactly did it help again?

gannett · 31/12/2020 12:01

Clapping achieves nothing at all.

Take the pandemic seriously, put your energy into calling for pay rises and more funding and don't fucking vote for a party that wants to sell off the NHS next time. THAT'S what you can do to show your thanks.

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 31/12/2020 12:01

Tough luck for them..shouldve adjusted their bed time to suit it. Also people with pets..should stop complaining about fireworks. NHS staff with pets also..shouldve just appreciated the gesture and sorted their pets out too.

One road went a step further and had someone singing away. Became so look at me I care I care!!!
