Horrible woman in supermarket

I’ve just visited our local supermarket, it’s one of the cheaper, rush through at twice the speed of light ones. There was one queue that split into two tills at the end. The woman in front had two items and I had a trolley full. She was waiting to see which would be quicker and holding up the queue. I always join the slowest one as it gives a bit of time to get loaded up. I asked her very politely which till she would be using and she was really horrible, barked at me that it was her choice and I’d have to wait for her as the queue was for both tills.

I have severe anxiety and I almost burst into tears. Is this UR or am I being a wimp? I can’t stop thinking about it?? WTF is wrong with me?

@withmycoffee

I think we must all go to very different supermarkets because no cashier is seated at the very end of the counter/belt thing either. They are seated sort of in the middle. Goods are in front of them and they push them behind them. In the diagram. there is no space behind them for items to go
Precisely! There is hardly any space for the items to go once scanned. This is what it's like in my Lidl and Aldi at least, and this is why there's a rush to load up your items before the cashier starts scanning them, as there's nowhere for them to go other than straight into your trolly.

Oh stoppit. It's a bit of fun.

Whoops sorry - that was to the poster who was saying the diagram was "weird". Mumsnet moves freakishly fast...

For anyone who's never been in a Lidl before... Aldi is the same. You're missing out, the Lidl bakery is great.

But good luck paying from halfway down the conveyor belt unless you're Mr Tickle Grin

@withmycoffee you've not been in an Aldi then.

Veryverycalmnow · 31/12/2020 19:50

She was rude. I would've got angry and then maybe cried. Don't feel bad.

Veryverycalmnow · 31/12/2020 19:54

Ignore people who are using words like 'wimp'. Being a polite or sensitive person does not mean you are weak. What would happen if we all spoke to each other like that rude woman. I believe that we need a mix of personality types for society to function. But being a 'strong character' doesn't need to mean rude or horrible.

dementedpixie · 31/12/2020 20:09

Lidl and aldi dont have a space for shopping to slide into like other supermarkets. There is a ledge and a space for your trolley to fit into and the shopping goes straight back into the trolley to be packed at the counter behind all the checkouts

dementedpixie · 31/12/2020 20:11

This is the set up of lidl and aldi tills. No space to put shopping

True. I haven't. But going by the photo someone posted, the card payment machine placed the customer very close to the front end of the conveyer space. There doesn't appear to be an extraordinarily long counter as shown in the 'not to scale' diagram.
