How have your Christmas food deliveries worked out?

Ocado have delivered me no gammon and a chicken that goes off on Christmas Eve so now I need to brave the shops and keep my fingers crossed.

How has everyone else faired?

Tesco Christmas click and collect was great, everything dated after Christmas Day and a free box of mince pies. I forgot the Baileys and lettuce though Xmas Confused

AnathemaPulsifer · 23/12/2020 12:58

My Ocado came yesterday, minus my pigs in blankets.

Erictheavocado · 23/12/2020 12:59

Tesco delivered yesterday. Just one sub - extra thick cream instead of finest brandy cream. Not the end of the world. My DM had her delivery on Sunday - all good. DS had his yesterday and some of the festive food had use by dates of today. Dil called and tesco refunded and gave a goodwill gesture voucher as well. It was just veg that were shortdated, so they should be fine for Christmas day. Biggest issue for us was that the change to tier 4 came too late to alter the food to order stuff, so both DS's have ended up with more than they need. They both have freezers, so it won't waste.

Had my Ocado delivery this morning, all there except one non essential item.
This is actually miles better than usual, the other week they didn't have my washing up liquid but rather than subbing they just didn't deliver any

Had our Ocado order just an hour ago.

Only thing missing was DH's bacon and sausages which was subbed but we declined it.

As the only Jew in the house, I found this hilarious but as picking up turkey from the butchers tomorrow and I'm sure he can find some sort of porky obscenity in there!

I've had Ocado Christmas slots for the past 7 years as well as weekly deliveries, never let me down and in general dates are fair, plus they email you in advance with expiry dates so you can always decline something.

Waitrose I will never use again after delivering me an entire order that expired on the 24th, at about 9pm on the 23rd - and it was 2 hours late! I've heard they've improved but I'll never bother.

StockTakeAndWatermelons · 23/12/2020 13:17

@KenAdams

Its not a Thoughtful Producer chicken is it?
Yes!!

V frustrating.

CheltenhamLady · 23/12/2020 13:19

I had a Tesco delivery on Monday and an Ocado one yesterday. Nothing missing from either, apart from Port which we can pick up locally.

Marks and Spencer Xmas dinner food collection is at 4pm today. Smile

RoseDog · 23/12/2020 13:22

I had a couple of normal subs then a Christmas candle that I ordered in a small size they sent the same scent in a giant size and a different scent in the size I ordered Hmm

Also a tub of ice cream I didn't order!

RedToothBrush · 23/12/2020 13:25

I've just come to look for the obligatory MN 'shit Christmas substitution' thread and the 'I've sent DH to the supermarket to do the christmas shop and he only came back with bog roll, a tin opener and a pack of nappies' thread and this looks like its as good as it gets.

I am gutted and feel robbed.

(The supermarkets did good)

DazzlePaintedBattlePants · 23/12/2020 13:30

Tesco arrived this morning - only thing missing was gravy which was subbed for beef gravy. Went to the shops this morning as well and it was very calm, almost quiet and the shelves were absolutely heaving with produce. Suspect there will be good bargains to be had tomorrow evening; I do hope it hasn’t been awful for the retailers.

Tumbleweed101 · 23/12/2020 13:39

Mine is due later of the bits that are needed fresh. I've ordered my frozen and long life things over the month so I can manage if I need to with what we have :). I don't usually have too many things missing so hoping that's the case today. (Tesco).

Salamander91 · 23/12/2020 13:53

Sainsburys delivered this morning. About 5 subs but all reasonable Smile

rosie39forever · 23/12/2020 14:07

why are people getting slots from more than one supplier
I have Asda and Tesco, the Asda is my shop and the Tesco is for my elderly parents who aren't very online savvy so they prefer to give me a list and I do their shop for them.

rosie39forever · 23/12/2020 14:12

In the area that I live there are loads of online slots with all the supermarkets I can usually get same day delivery if I need to.

Livpool · 23/12/2020 14:16

Got an Asda order the other day and all great apart from substituting Jack Daniels Fire for the normal Jack Daniels.
It wouldn't usually matter but it was a gift for DH.

No other issues so I was happy

SausageRoll2020 · 23/12/2020 14:19

Asda did pretty well yesterday.
5 subs which were all swapping one type of chocolate product for another which were absolutely fine.
And then they sent 6 onions instead of the 2 ordered and double the amount of tomatoes so can't really complain here.

Crunchymum · 23/12/2020 14:20

Sainsburys arrived earlier (just outside of alloted slot but they called me)

All that was missing was a few packs of baby wipes (I have enough but just order the ones I prefer when they are on special) and my own brand blue milk was subbed with Cravendale.

I already had turkey and stuffing but all the veg / dessert / booze turned up.

So that's us in until after Xmas now.

bluechameleon · 23/12/2020 14:20

I collected my Tesco order this morning. Only leeks not available, no substitute. Short dates on strawberries and sausages but fine for when we need them. There were a few things missing but that was down to me forgetting to order them so I don't think I can blame Tesco.

MyNameForToday1980 · 23/12/2020 14:25

Waitrose on Monday - 4 subs, all reasonable.

Ocado today - 5 subs, 4 fine, didn't accept the 5th (Ardennes pate in place of Brussels) and a missing pack of mincepies (also fine as easy to get).

Are to why we had two deliveries: Monday was the closest to Christmas we could book at Waitrose (several items are Waitrose specify). Ocado had plenty of slots on 23rd for fresh stuff.

cherrytreecottage · 23/12/2020 14:28

I've got Tesco's click and collect tonight so I'll let you know. I didn't put gammon down because I wanted to pick my own and now can't bloody find one anywhere!

MiddlesexGirl · 23/12/2020 14:30

Tesco fine. Just cauliflower missing which was to be expected.

strawberrycherryblossom · 23/12/2020 14:34

Tesco delivery this morning. Everything there except I got different bin bags and a nicer Red Leicester. No complaints!
