In thinking that if women went on strike, there'd be no Christmas?

All around me I see women busting a gut to organise the gifts, the food, get the food shopping/order food shopping and while there are some men around me who will help out, not a single one (in heterosexual relationships at least) is in charge of organising Christmas. They may contribute, but if their partner just downed tools, Christmas would either not happen or be dramatically smaller.

They're happy to receive gifts and eat the meal though.

But I wonder if this is just the people around me?

Are there women out there with male partners who basically do all of Christmas and they just need to get a couple of gifts and turn up?

Not in this house. DS plans, buys and wraps all his families, suggests things for my family, is very involved in planning and buying for the kids (orders most of it).

I did the m&s order. He collects and does the rest of the in person food shop. I do the online shop. He organised seeing his family and plans, bus and cooks the food when we do (not this year)

What a relief to read so many posts about 'equal' effort. I feel quite dispirited when I hear of women who are shouldering all the burden and are clearly frazzled by it all.

tbh if dh were all alone, I doubt he would do much. But he knows the importance that I, and others, attach to it all.

This year we are both wfh. I did lights on our outside trees. Came home from a work event and he had bought and decorated the inside tree. I buy presents for my family and usually have them delivered direct (they live far away). He buys presents for his family (local), wraps them and delivers them.

I plan the food. He shops, I cook ('cos I love it).

DH does most of it here

I spent 14 years of marriage doing everything. I hated Christmas and it was bloody rubbish and exhausting, and I got shit presents.

Now, for the last 8 years really, I've done ever less. This year I've been working absolutely flat out (150 hours overtime this month) as I work in clinical research and it's been a bit busy.

I think I had the ideas for the teenagers' presents, and I've definitely gone overboard with DP's, but he deserves it.

He's done the house cleaning and decorating, all the shopping, he wrapped with me, he's done the food shopping, he's doing all the cooking. He's told me I'm not allowed to move from the sofa tomorrow, and I have to rest, eat, drink and relax.

I don't know how I got this lucky, really.

Halfway through wrapping all my kids' presents tonight I turned to my wife and said, "I'm bored with this, can we finish it tomorrow?"

For a second she thought I wasn't joking.

I usually buy presents for my family and he buys for his.

He does all the cleaning and washing up (he's just better at it) while I do the cooking.

I would say it's split fairly evenly

MervGriffinShow · 24/12/2020 21:41

Maybe in your house.

In my house, neither of us are in charge of organising Christmas because its not a military operation, its just a day. Either of us can and does buy food and we each sort our own gifts.

If people continue to act a martyr they can't complain when it's then expected that they'll do everything.

Christmas is done equally in our house.
Hes sorted and wrapped his own presents, and helped me do the kids (my children not his)

I've come home from work, hes looked after my kids, done the housework, prepped all the veg and has sorted out air beds (kids having sleep over in thier eldest sisters room, hes masterminded the organising of the presents and weve both prepared tomorrows pudding.
I will cook tomorrow because I want to and but I know he would and he will wash up afterwards.

I was with a man who did absolutely nothing at xmas and I'm staggered at the difference between the two men

Fairly even split here, he owns cooking Christmas dinner though, wonderful it is!
