Where are all the mumsnetters who:

  • are mid-millennial
  • Extremely Online
  • left wing
  • probs on Twitter
  • do not think gaming is the scourge of society and causes you to turn into a zombie
  • does not know anyone who unironically plays golf

Bonus points for ex-emo kids.

Do you exist?

@MrsMiaWallis

My god. Are lots of people your age like this? "The rockports and jane norman bag lot"?
Do lots of people my age remember distinct groups of people from their school days? I'd imagine so, yes. I was one of the 'grotty Jansport bag and Converse' lot.

Did you have a LJ where you read The Shoe Box Project and posted your bad poetry in friends only entries, joined rate me communities and trolled booju-newju?

whoamongstus · 22/12/2020 17:41

@hauntedtree

I tick all your boxes apart from being emo, was a bit too old for it. I suspect most of us stay away from MN due to its reputation.
Yep. That's the impression I get. And part of why I think I'd be slightly embarassed to admit to using it in real life - it doesn't have a good rep amongst people I socialise with!

How do you play golf ironically?

I was more of a MySpace person personally, but my boyfriend can still find his VERY embarassing and VERY funny LJ hahaha. I did post pointless MySpace bulletins with song lyrics on to see if the people I fancied saw them and somehow psychically knew I was thinking about them through the medium of Bright Eyes lyrics, though.

🙋🏻‍♀️
Hey, I wouldnt say I'm extremely online as I'd never heard of it, so couldn't possibly be.
But I'm an early 90s baby, was more "scene kid" than emo, DH occasionally games but not too much. No golf playing anywhere near me by anyone.

MN has an awful reputation for nine users, but I think that’s the same for many things (Reddit, for example).
PolarnOPirate · 22/12/2020 17:43

I’m 31 too. Sound v different to you but my older sister games and stuff. I dunno what ‘Extremely Online’ is. In answer to your question, in year 10/11 I was one of the drama types, school musicals, making movies with my friends, going around carol signing at Christmas :) I had a few emo friends though! I wasn’t in any of the cliques, had friends from all over. I got on with everyone really.

RUTheshitploppeeOrShitplopper · 22/12/2020 17:43

I take OP's 'extremely online' to mean always on social media, games, etc.

Fluffypyjamasandgin · 22/12/2020 17:43

I'm millennial, on twitter with a few thousand followers, used to be emo, leftie. But I do think gaming is a scourge and completely pointless and my husband plays golf. Well he did before covid.
That extremely online thing... I don't know what it is.

PolarnOPirate · 22/12/2020 17:43

I do like paramore!

PolarnOPirate · 22/12/2020 17:44

... but despise Twitter.

@RUTheShitploppeeOrShitplopper

Why are people voting YABU? What's OP being unreasonable about?
Also wondering this!

Ha, now Dead Journal was the epitome. Bonus points if you signed up when it was still a ‘referral’ site.

My DD ticks most of your boxes, except she’s opted not to have children for the good of the planet. She also sees MN as full of people like her mum who wouldn’t understand 3/4 of her interests or what comes out of her mouth. Grin

Ahhhh, you sound nice :) (There is NO way to write that without sounding sarcastic on the internet but it's sincere!)

I was also a massive geek at school, so I had friends in the chess and Warhammer clubs...

Hahaha - you sound a lot like my mum, who is very cool and accepts her grandchildless fate very gracefully and only rolls her eyes occasionally at me Grin

Oh wait, I don't think I was emo actually. I think they were along after me. I did like punk rock and metal and wore cool black clothes a lot. I'm an older millennial - early 80s.

IndecentFeminist · 22/12/2020 17:50

Yawnsome.

Summerstorms · 22/12/2020 17:51

I'm on the line of GenX/Millennial. Extremely left wing, love gaming, spend far too much time on line. No twitter but instagram

SionnachRua · 22/12/2020 17:54

Also OP a lot of my ex-emo mates (feels sad saying that...once an emo, always an emo 🤣) love KPop now. Very different music but a great scene to get into!

I really enjoy this image contrasting with your username Grin!

I think emo kids were kind of a bridge, and then scene kids happened (my age group). There were definitely older emos, but they were more Jimmy Eat World than metal Grin

Hello and same. I'd give anything for an £8 gig at Manchester Academy and going home on the last train. I miss having gig friends! I have a whole load of people on my Facebook/Twitter that I only ever met at gigs and we became a little band of people who saw each other 5 times a year.
