Embarrassing accidental things on Facebook/Instagram!

What’s the most embarrassing thing you’ve managed to do on Facebook/Instagram? I’m talking accidentally liking someone’s photo from 2010, adding someone by accident, sharing someone’s photo etc? These always crack me up.

Made me think as today I accidentally watched the Instagram story of a man I dated for a while several years ago and haven’t spoken to since (I am happy with DP now!) - he came up as someone I might know and I clicked on his page to be nosy. I didn’t realise that if you click on the person’s profile it shows you their most recent story?! I’m cringing as it will show him I’ve watched it - I don’t even follow him!!

Oh well - there are worse things I am sure!! Blush

Added someone instead of blocking them.

I wished a friends little brother a happy 21st birthday. Didn’t realise I was still on his page and updated my status. But it wasn’t my status it was a random post on his wall in amongst all the cheery birthday wishes. Saying how I hadn’t slept in days because dd1 was teething and what the fuck could I do to help.
21 year old single man then responded with a really nice message being very sympathetic but suggesting he wasn’t the best person to ask. Then proceeded to tag people like his mum and aunty who might be able to help.
Mortified

I am dying!!! @Rose789 GrinGrin

CorianderQueen · 22/12/2020 23:27

I've had a fair few people who bullied me in high school like photos from several years ago. Great feeling

DaughterOfEvilReindeer · 22/12/2020 23:28

I did a similar one to the LinkedIn post above, not realising that they got notifications. Only mine was an ex of 10 years previous who had his own recruitment company. I'd come across this company online as I was looking for work and didn't want to apply to them if it was his company. So I looked on LinkedIn 3 or 4 times because I couldn't figure out if the profile pic was him or not. I still die a little when I see his adverts online!

DaughterOfEvilReindeer · 22/12/2020 23:30

I also searched for exH on FB once when drunk more than once but this was the only time I did this and for some reason when scrolling back through his posts saw that he'd posted "I am fat and ugly" (no idea why!) so I react laughed at it and replied "yep". I couldn't figure out how to delete it my befuddled state so I just blocked him in the hope he wouldn't get a notification or see what I'd done Blush

SheSaidNoFuckThat · 22/12/2020 23:31

Very drunk, looking through fb "memories" woke up to find I'd tagged about 20 people in the cover photo of an ex friends profile, we hadn't been friends for over a year

TheIncredibleBookEatingManchot · 22/12/2020 23:34

I once accidentally shared a several years old photo of the daughter of a girl I went to school with.

We aren't friends and never were. I just idly clicked on her name when she came up as a person I might know.

I immediately unshared the photo, logged out of Facebook and hid under the bed.

No idea if anyone saw the post or if she got a notification saying I'd shared it.

shas19 · 22/12/2020 23:34

Sending my friend some outfit ideas on fb messenger when my accident I clicked on some nudes of my self, shes seen every bit of me now😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

KitNCaboodle · 22/12/2020 23:43

Mine isn’t funny but incredibly cringey.
Was looking on the profile of an exfriend and accidentally shared a picture of theirs.
Shit myself, panicked and then blocked them, hoping my name didn’t appear in their feed.

I was stalking an ex’s new girlfriend, who I had never met, on Facebook. Some time later I got a notification saying that she had accepted my friend request. I must have accidentally requested whilst stalking her without realising. I was mortified, but also surprised she accepted! They broke up a few years ago and we weirdly remain Facebook friends to this day.

desperatelyseeking1 · 22/12/2020 23:53

Mine was so embarrassing and pointless. So one day I realised one of my colleagues (in higher management to me) was giving me the cold shoulder and I wasn't sure why.
Anyway for reasons unknown I thought I'd stalk her on Facebook - this is a few years ago when it was really fiddly to use Facebook on your mobile.
Instead of searching for her I accidentally typed her name in my status and posted it. So I had her name, nothing else, as a status. Bear in mind we were Facebook friends.

Cue me frantically trying to delete it.

May I point out that stupidly I was outdoors at the time at a train station having reception issues and it must have taken me a good 5-10 minutes to finally remove it

dividedwefall · 22/12/2020 23:55

@YellowEllis

Tagged myself as my ex boyfriends new baby in a photo he'd uploaded. We weren't even Facebook friends. My sister phoned me in hysterics asking if I'd realised what I'd done. Still no clue how I managed it to be honest
Oh my god that is hilarious Grin
Cocacolathanks · 22/12/2020 23:56

@YellowEllis tagging yourself as the exes new baby??!!!

I’m in bed snorting at the hilarious posts while the kids are fast asleep, can’t stop laughing!! Lol

Casschops · 22/12/2020 23:57

My ex got married and I accidentally tagged myself into a picture of him and his new wife in their wedding gear. Im happily married and was just noseying!

NameChangeForThisOneEek · 22/12/2020 23:59

One day I was awaiting a very important phone call. At one stage I was desperate for the loo. Put my phone on bathroom floor in the rush. Moment my cheeks hit the seat the phone started ringing. So I ran over (pants round my ankles) to answer. Picked up the phone and put it to my ear. Only it wasn't my phone ringing. I had somehow managed to call a random school mum through What's app video. She's a hairdresser and cut my hair, once. That was the only time I'd ever spoken to her, or have ever spoken to her to this day. She must've seen far more of me than she bargained for. I have to see her every day, twice a day, during the school run.

famousforwrongreason · 23/12/2020 00:04

I had a brief fling with a guy. I was facestalking his ex and then the next time I had a nosy at her profile it said that my friend request was pending. Actual mortification.
That's probably not the worst thing but definitely the most recent

This made me laugh out loud, it's the sort of weird stuff my friend's mum does. She's hilarious, her statuses often mean nothing.
Trunchbull1969 · 23/12/2020 00:30

Was Facebook “stalking” a performer I admired. At one point I was scrolling through - on ipad so easy to press on the wrong thing on the screen. I had left a laughing reaction on a (perfectly normal, not funny) photo of his newborn baby. I still don’t know how long it was there (I think it was already there from earlier or recent occasion rather than just that moment added, though still hope maybe he might not have seen it) I have a mutual friend and if questioned would claim it showed on her page - not sure how plausible that would seem though!

Osirus · 23/12/2020 00:59

My sister was searching for another woman’s profile on Facebook years ago (someone she didn’t like so was stalking!), and, of course, accidentally typed the name into the status box instead of the search one!

I was on Facebook at the same time so as soon as I saw it I told her what she had done, but not before the woman she had been stalking replied to her status with a simple “Yes?”

I think my sister played it down by then asking a random question.

TheLazyToad · 23/12/2020 02:00

Our local FB Page had a really sad story about a cat who had been run over, and the owner was posting thanks to people who had stopped to help, what it meant to her etc. I didn't intentionally click on anything. It was couple of hours later when I was randomly scrolling through FB again, saw the same post, and wondered who the wally-brain was who had clicked on the laugh emoji.

Yeah, that would be me.

I am so glad that I noticed, albeit so much later, and was able to remove it.

BlueCheckedTeatowel · 23/12/2020 02:19

One evening last year I fell down a rabbit hole of stalking an ex from my teenage years. Had a good peruse at his new wife while finishing off a few G&Ts. Woke the next morning to a message from my ex asking how I knew his new MIL. Apparently I had not only friend requested her but also "liked" several of her 2009 Corfu holiday snaps. Blush

moochoom · 23/12/2020 06:48

I let my daughter play with my phone so I could get 5 minutes peace while I sat on the sofa. About an hour later I looked at my phone and had received messages from various friends telling me that I had gone "live" on Instagram. Turns out my daughter had been filming me sitting on the sofa in a very questionable outfit, no makeup, sucking my thumb and twiddling my hair. Instagram notifies all your friends when you go live so lord knows how many people got to witness that little treat.

TrinidadQueen · 23/12/2020 07:55

Loving the post where someone's name was posted as a status by mistake rather than using the search facility and then said person responded with 'Yes?".
Really tickled me Grin

Lizadork · 23/12/2020 08:27

Not so bad but equally kid themed, every time i leave facebook logged on to shared devices I come back to find my FB profile pic is Rainbow Dash or a too close close up selfie of my eldest Grin

I frequently accidentally friend request exes and their photos. Also get half way through commenting before distracted so haf a few mishaps with sentences not finished and errors not immediately noticed ... often "lick" instead of like/love Confused Blush
