Embarrassing accidental things on Facebook/Instagram!

What’s the most embarrassing thing you’ve managed to do on Facebook/Instagram? I’m talking accidentally liking someone’s photo from 2010, adding someone by accident, sharing someone’s photo etc? These always crack me up.

Made me think as today I accidentally watched the Instagram story of a man I dated for a while several years ago and haven’t spoken to since (I am happy with DP now!) - he came up as someone I might know and I clicked on his page to be nosy. I didn’t realise that if you click on the person’s profile it shows you their most recent story?! I’m cringing as it will show him I’ve watched it - I don’t even follow him!!

Oh well - there are worse things I am sure!! Blush

Crying with laughter at the obese man tag, teething advice from 21 year old and status as an ex’s name over and over. Great thread!

Mine is awful. I was on my deceased boss’s Facebook page and accidentally “shared” a grief meme her mum had posted. Managed to delete it very soon after but always worried she would get a notification that I’d shared it 😭

BlueCheckedTeatowel · 22/12/2020 20:37

She managed to message him from her bed but somehow attached a photo of herself looking rough, snotty and bedraggled in bed, with her tits out.

crying laughing and just choked on my dairy milk

CharitySchmarity · 22/12/2020 20:41

Before I knew how to edit posts on Instagram, I said I was giving up succubi for 30 days, instead of alcohol. Bloody autocorrect!

Mine was trying to search for my DHs ex on Facebook and hadn't realised I was posting her fucking name over and over as my status thinking the search bit wasn't loading Blush DH told me the next day loooool
I did the same in the early days of Facebook - posted an ex’s name as my status when I was trying to search for him Blush I was only looking idly as well, just passing time, but it was mortifying.
MarkRuffaloCrumble · 22/12/2020 22:24

I’m forever accidentally tagging myself in other peoples photos! As soon as you click on a face it brings up the box with my name in it and I never know what I’m supposed to do to decline that suggestion Grin. I shouldn’t be allowed online. I’m really careful scrolling through the people you may know, as it always brings up DP’s ex (she’s friends with lots of his family) and I’m convinced I’ll accidentally friend request her one day!!

Tagged myself as my ex boyfriends new baby in a photo he'd uploaded. We weren't even Facebook friends. My sister phoned me in hysterics asking if I'd realised what I'd done. Still no clue how I managed it to be honest

CarinaMarina · 22/12/2020 22:36

I stumbled across the LinkedIn profile of a guy who accepted referrals from a firm I used to work for yonks ago - I passed him a couple of leads at the time, he was amusing but a bit of a knob. I had connected with him a few years before and was idly looking at his profile to see if he still ran the same company, forgetting that he would be notified that I viewed it.

Sure enough, I got a private message in a matter of minutes saying "Ah, so you're having a sneaky look at my profile are you?!! Xxxx"

Eww. In a flap I deleted his message and deleted him as a connection - he was always a bit creepy.

A week or so later, I got a bloody WhatsApp message saying "Hello stranger, how are you? Xxx" His LinkedIn pic was his profile picture so I knew it was him. What's with all the kisses you loon.

DH was right next to me in the car at the time and I panicked. He asked who it was, I said no idea, must be a mistake and blocked him. And now I'm worried that DH might bring it up or see him in my blocked list, even though I barely know the bloke and haven't done anything wrong. DH is a bit "no smoke without fire"...

I can't unblock him (creepy guy) so he disappears from the block list without him knowing can I?

wishywashywoowoo70 · 22/12/2020 22:37

Meant to post some progress photos in a ladies only weight loss FB group.
Accidental posted it on the PTs own Facebook page where we have loads of mutual friends. Didn't even realise til some bloke commented and I got a notification saying I was brave for posting. ( it was bra and knickers photo)
Fucking horrified

SoggyBiscuitss · 22/12/2020 22:38

@YellowEllis that one is the best!!

I have loads. So I’ll pick the best.

A Facebook friend who I didn’t know well (met her on a hen doo a few years previous and that was the first & last time we spoke but remained Facebook ‘friends’)... she updated her status something juicy like “whoever read my status about by dick head ex and went straight to tell him can go fk themselves” (yeah classy)
And ok I had to look. So I scrolled back through her Facebook page to see what had been happening (I was having a boring day don’t judge)
Ended up 6 months in when I don’t know how I managed it but I SHARED A PHOTO OF HER SONS BIRTHDAY
and in such a massive panic I couldn’t concentrate to get rid of it off my page.
How embarrassing

GloGirl · 22/12/2020 22:43

Not had this much fun in months thank you Grin

TrinidadQueen · 22/12/2020 22:43

Accidentally friended someone, unfriended them quickly and then managed to re add them.
Once on this forum, someone tagged themselves by accident into a photo of a newborn baby. Didnt even know the family and was snooping on them...now that's embarrassing!

Haha I did this back in 2008, sitting in sixth form trying to look at the profile of one of the lads in the year above. Put his name as my status, went off to class, had the shit ripped out of me at lunch.

Social media is a minefield!

CounsellorTroi · 22/12/2020 22:47

I've accidentally sent friend requests to people who wouldn't know me from Adam as they came up as "people you may know".

TrinidadQueen · 22/12/2020 22:52

Yellowellis, you were the poster I was referring to! Unless someone else posted in the past about this !

blankiesandunicorns · 22/12/2020 22:56

I was feeling quite pissed off about ruined Xmas plans but this thread has cheered me up.

@YellowEllis yours is brill and this thread should keep going and make Mumsnet classics!

dividedwefall · 22/12/2020 22:59

@Morgan12

My friend somehow managed to make his banner photo on fb a screenshot he had taken of his ex status saying how tired she was and that she was going home for a bubble bath 😂

He didn't notice for ages.

This wins. I haven't belly laughed for a very long time but this had me struggling for breath. The absolute horror of it. And things like this so easily done.
dividedwefall · 22/12/2020 23:03

@Gardeniaofdelights

Years ago I was having a nosy at my boyfriend‘s ex girlfriend’s Facebook page. Got distracted and then posted what I thought was a Facebook status about him, but which was actually a post on her wall. Deleted it very quickly but the memory still haunts me Blush
All of these make me cringe and laugh because I have been so close to doing similar.

Ones I am aware of that I have done - accidentally 'add friend' of various people I didn't really know but whose pages I have been nosing.

And on a Discord server I am a member of I thought I was searching for something rude about the owner of the site who I was starting to dislike, as were others, but accidentally typed it into the 'post message' box and didn't realise. Started getting DMs from other members asking WTF? and within ten minutes was banned from the server haha

HopeYourHighHorseBucks · 22/12/2020 23:04

I did the same as PP and typed in my Exs name in the status bar, not the search bar. I was drunk and did not notice until the next day.

I've shared peoples statuses by accident. They were probably surprised that an old school friend shared their putting the kids to bed wine o'clock status.

I once added an old school friend then messaged him asking how he and his family were, we messaged a few times then he finally said he had no idea who I was and never went to my school. To be fair I still have him on there now, nice guy 😂

Didnt realise I had "poked" my DPs ex after stalking her.

I once had a random person attempt to tag themselves in my photo. Also had a sweary message from a woman asking how I know this man, why was I in his recently searched. Still no idea who he is.

mashpot · 22/12/2020 23:05

Pure gold, tagging yourself as the exes baby and the new friend obese man tag have given me a great laugh.

Wobbitcatcher · 22/12/2020 23:08

my toddler live broadcast the noises of me being sick followed by me telling my husband I was so fed up of being pregnant and as it was so early would have weeks more of this. I had only found out a few hours before and wasn’t ready for the world to know Blush

EhEhhEhhh · 22/12/2020 23:18

Semi related but twitter..

Being a little vague as possibly outing. A few years ago I met an actor and had a picture with him, It turned out to be a great picture and he asked if I could send it to him on twitter.

The next day I was at my grandparents house and their toilet was leaking so I took a picture and went to send it to my mum to show her, On my phone once you hit share a 'quick share' thing comes up which shows thumbnails of people you have recently sent stuff to, I was so used to my Mum being the first one in the list I just clicked it.

I sent a picture of a toilet to the actor with zero context. He saw it, Then hours later just replied: ' Ok then, I always end up following the strangest people lol'
