@Lorius

Frankly I think we need a proper lockdown. Too many people are not following the rules and are putting others at risk.

The rule should be- unless you are a key worker, stay the fuck at home at all times.

None of this outdoor 'exercise', meeting other households for a 'walk' (which is even allowed in tier 4 for some reason Hmm), or trips to the Range.

Each household should be allocated one supermarket trip per week to be used for* buying essentials only*- not gin and chocolate Hmm

I'd also like to see something similar to the French system where people have to carry a form every time they leave home.

I would support a financial reward system for good Samaritans who report neighbours who do not stay at home.

We would soon be able to eradicate the virus if people followed the rules and stayed the fuck at home.

Good job your ridiculous idea has no chance of ever happening, really.
takemetomars · 21/12/2020 19:08

Yes. Healthcare worker here. It may be necessary

EmmanuelleMakro · 21/12/2020 19:09

Lockdowns don’t work unless you are China and impose a regime that the west just would not implement.
500,000 people -the most susceptible to complications-have s as dreary been vaccinated. Just need to keep on vaccinating those with high morbidity risk and everyone else just get back to normal and live with the mild symptoms - if any.

Aisforharlot · 21/12/2020 19:09

I agree with @wanderings.

Whatwouldscullydo · 21/12/2020 19:10

And i bet come the end of next year you would be moaning about obesity and "scroungers

Be like all those slebs with bathrooms bugger than our entire houses telling us all to hang in there Hmm no idea whatsoever

Lorius · 21/12/2020 19:11

@EmmanuelleMakro

Frankly we will never get back to 'normal'. The vaccines will not prevent transmission so we cannot have large events such as concerts in the future.

I suspect zoom will be replacing large family Christmases for the foreseeable future, if not forever.

We cannot put millions of people including DC at risk of permanent disability due to Long COVID.

Is your strategy to get everyone to top themselves and then the virus won't have any hosts? It's inventive, ill give you that.
ragged · 21/12/2020 19:12

"home working as an option for everyone"

Wow, the delivery drivers too?

Hey fair enough, we're all too fat. Just live on whatever food is in your house NOW. No exceptions. For 3 weeks. Starting now. Rationing will stop us all from getting fat since no exercise allowed. Plus shivering when the heating & electricity fail, of course, since all those maintenance people have to stay home too.

I bet the Russian submarines will love the empty seas... plus the fish stocks have more chance to recover since nobody can be out catching fish (must stay home too).

Too bad all the oldies in the care homes will die... since nobody will be coming in to look after them (the staff had to stay home too). That sorts a lot of problems out, I suppose.

MrsMomoa · 21/12/2020 19:12

Zoecarter

Only if schools closed the second lock down failed due to the non closer of schools

Cos the first lockdown with schools closed worked so well??? Hmm

Oh for fuck sake. What a ridiculous post. Id rather risk "long covid", which is just post viral fatigue which has been around forever BTW, than never be able to live a normal life. What's the point of even being alive if we have such a half existence?

Pathetic.

Emmie12345 · 21/12/2020 19:14

@EmmanuelleMakro troll surely - v amusing !!

thelimitdoesnotexist · 21/12/2020 19:14

@Lorius are you the poster who was touting your wonderful plan on the coronavirus board yesterday? Bet you’re financially comfortable, big house, big garden, very little worries?

thelimitdoesnotexist · 21/12/2020 19:16

@Lorius what a ridiculous post - no concerts ever again? Only zoom for some families at Christmas?? MN hysteria at its finest. Do you enjoy trying to drag everyone down?

That poster has got to be a wind up.

SellFridges · 21/12/2020 19:17

No. I think we need to get on with it the way we have been doing, and get better at testing promptly and using micro lockdowns in schools, hospitals etc. Covid is mild for most people, particularly young people (under 50).

The only lockdown that would solve this is one where everyone, and I mean everyone, stayed at home for at least three weeks. Many people needing care would die, most of them not from Covid. But we’d be Covid free. Is that worth the price?

sortmylifeoutplease · 21/12/2020 19:17

Lockdown is pointless unless something is done to make schools safer

zigaziga · 21/12/2020 19:18

And when I think about my own behaviour during the first lockdown... like a lot of people, I left the house a handful of times only in that first month and that was for a quick jog around the area to clear my head. I’m not going to do that again for anything.

I remember taking my DC to the park for a walk round about a month in for the first time and my 3 year old asking to sit on a bench and me being scared that we’d get in trouble for that.

About 6 weeks in we bumped into some pre-school friends and we had a 2 minute conversation about 4 metres apart. I wasn’t worried about myself or DC catching CV, actually we had classic symptoms the first and second week of lockdown, but genuinely worried I’d be arrested or fined for getting close to another person.

Even if they Tier 100 me I won’t be back there again. I won’t be having a street party but the fear of getting arrested for taking too long putting the bins out thing is well and truly gone. A 3rd lockdown could never be the same.

MrsMomoa · 21/12/2020 19:19

"We would soon be able to eradicate the virus if people followed the rules and stayed the fuck at home."

It didn't work the first time after everyone, stayed the fuck home.
P.S. only one virus has ever been eradicated.
Small pox.

This is here to stay.
We can't ruin the economy trying to 'eradicate' it.
Because it isn't going to happen.
We need to learn to live with it.
Without ruining everything else.

MandosHatHair · 21/12/2020 19:19

I'm not so sure this is a windup, I live in a small town and on the town's facebook page the majority post stuff like this. Not to mention many of my friends have too. It's scary how easily people are willing to give up theirs and everyone else's liberty.

thelimitdoesnotexist · 21/12/2020 19:19

@ForestNymph I’m sure it’s the same person who was posting yesterday on CV board.

TheGriffle · 21/12/2020 19:21

I think the same as Whatwouldscullydo if we lock down yet again, when things open back up cases will rise just like the last 2 times we’ve locked down. Why wouldn’t they? So what’s the point?

I need schools/nurseries to be open so me and DH can do our work, pay our bills and keep a roof over our heads like thousands of others. The lockdown in March with everything shut nearly finished us off mentally.

Lorius · 21/12/2020 19:22

@ForestNymph

Not at all- far too many people are not abiding by the rules and are putting people at risk.

New Zealand and China have both shown that the only way to deal with this virus is through a strict, tough, harsh lockdown.

Frankly the vast majority of people can live without leaving home for walks or whatever excuse they have.

If we all stayed at home at all times for 6 weeks, we would save tens of thousands of lives.

Vates · 21/12/2020 19:22

Yes. I would absolutely support a tough lockdown and think Christmas should be cancelled. I don't care if I had/have to spend it alone. People always think that it is mainly aged folks who get lonely but that's only because they are used to company. And, yes, I am 35 and have always been alone, go out once a week to my Sister's for company or to the supermarket. Be thankful for what you have; I am grateful that I have a roof over my head for example.

Its alarming and tbh it irritates me. I'd rather die by my own sword than live in a gilded cage.
Covidrelapse · 21/12/2020 19:23

I suspect schools will close and think they need to to curb infection rates whilst the vaccination programme gets into full swing.
