Hello!

Back story

When I met my now husband in 2013 I had a dark plum red hair colour ( will try to attach a pic ) around 2017 I dropped it to black then brown and now with the new year coming in feeling inspired to lose some weight and bring back that colour ..

I told him this morning over breakfast and he responded with ‘ you have had your time ‘ ... I’m 37.

Is there some kind of unsaid fashion rule regarding hair colours and age //.

Is that how he sees me ?! As someone who has had their time !!! I’m
Younger than him !

Pfft.

DecemberDiana · 20/12/2020 23:39

Ignore his grumpiness.

Scarlettpixie · 21/12/2020 08:38

I hope you told him to fuck off! It’s a great colour. I would do it and I am 48. There is no age limit on hair dye!

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 21/12/2020 08:50

Age appropriate hair colours come under the same heading as accountants can't have piercings,

Indeed. To go with the hair (back on page 1), I have a nose stud and a Medusa piercing. I'm a chartered accountant Smile

Bluesername · 21/12/2020 08:51

Tell him ageism and misogyny have had their time and do what you like with your hair!

CorianderBlues · 21/12/2020 08:53

Around my way, the older you are, the more likely you are to have dyed hair. And evidently it's true all over given the replies above! Youngsters go au natural, greys and gingers seem to be all the rage.

Plum/dark purple is as council as fuck though, sorry.

JustCallMeGriffin · 21/12/2020 09:11

I've had the opposite with my MIL telling me I'm "too young" to go grey and give up on myself.

  1. Accepting your natural colour doesn't mean you've given up on yourself
  2. Dying your hair any of the myriad colours of the rainbow (or all of them) isn't just for youngsters

The only person who has a say in hair is the person who's hair it is and parents for the very young

nevernotstruggling · 21/12/2020 17:28

I had that hair colour when I was 37. I looked amazing

hamptonmummy · 21/12/2020 17:30

He's being ridiculous, absolutely do it.

I had bright "Royal mail" red (how my husband described it) for several years untill I was made redundant in April. I decided to my natural ginger but now I have a revolting large crop of greys and my natural bright ginger has faded to a grimy grotty shade since turning 40 a month ago.

Got a call last week that I could have my job back all be it part time and it's prompted me to go bright red again, when my hair looks fab I feel fab and I don't give a single fudge what anyone thinks!!

purplebunny2012 · 21/12/2020 17:30

I'm 41

‘ You have had your time ‘ ... WTF
SnozPoz · 21/12/2020 17:32

What does he even mean?

Thisistherhythmofthenight · 21/12/2020 17:32

32 here with peachy pink hair x

Beautifulbonnie · 21/12/2020 17:34

I had mine this colour last year. I’m 42!

cleowasmycat · 21/12/2020 17:35

Love it!! I really want to know how you achieve this colour!

Tehmina23 · 21/12/2020 17:36

It's a lovely colour. If i was you and I had nice straight thick shiny hair I would definitely colour it that shade.
Especially just to wind up that ageist husband of yours...

37 is young, I wish I could be in my 30s again!

Mumoflil1 · 21/12/2020 17:38

No limit on hair colour. Never heard that one before!! Go for it!

anon666 · 21/12/2020 17:38

I didn't dare go for a zany hair colour till I lost my job ... At 46!

squeekums · 21/12/2020 17:38

I'm 32
I've had purple for over a year now, no plans to change

‘ You have had your time ‘ ... WTF
Aprilx · 21/12/2020 17:39

I honestly do not even understand what he means. What a peculiar thing to say.

karalou2 · 21/12/2020 17:43

I'd be inclined to tell him to choose his words carefully ~ or he could find it's him that's had his time.... !

claremmm · 21/12/2020 17:43

That hair colour is awesome! I’m 44 and have a similar colour (slightly brighter). Go for it!!!

Empressofthemundane · 21/12/2020 17:44

You two aren’t even 40 yet! He’s a bit of a curmudgeon for someone so young. Enjoy yourself.

purplebunny2012 · 21/12/2020 17:47

@Ideasplease322

😂 your husband is an idiot.

I remember a colleague proudly announcing he had told his wife she was too old to wear a hoody. She was thirty.

Shock I live in hoodies!
Donkeysleighbellsringing · 21/12/2020 17:50

Shock Go for whatever colour you desire. Don't let your H put you off.

Sandy10 · 21/12/2020 17:51

He doesn't want you to look good. Do it
