to think Matt Hancock looks knackered

Just watched Marr show
Tetchy, knackered
Obvious why - he must have an enormous workload and responsibility

But being knackered and tetchy can't be good for decision making.

What are the excuses for the rest of this shit show?

PicsInRed · 20/12/2020 10:35

He's probably worried about the vaccine and how the new strain impacts efficacy. He thought it was all but over and now we could be back to the start. A lot of people in his position would have a breakdown.

formerbabe · 20/12/2020 10:37

Just watched it and said the same to dh. Mind you, health secretary during a pandemic is hardly going to be a barrel of laughs.

It's going to be a long long slog.

I honestly thought he was going to lose his temper.

Of course he is, because people are dicks and find it easy to blame him for having to deal with an unprecedented pandemic rather than seeing he’s just trying his best and you can’t please everyone.

The population are like children: nobody realises and understands that their parents have to do what’s best for them and make the hard decisions, especially when they can’t be trusted to be responsible themselves.

CherryPavlova · 20/12/2020 10:39

He does, but should have planned ahead.
He doesn’t look as tired as our emergency department friend when he finished shift yesterday, not our GP daughter at the end of six 12 hour shifts, not our future daughter in law who has just finished twelve back to back shifts as an emergency nurse practitioner in one of the busiest departments in the country.

Not feeling it for him.

Orf1abc · 20/12/2020 10:39

We all would be if we were in a job that we were completely unqualified for. There's only so long you can wing it, and his time was up months ago.

chomalungma · 20/12/2020 10:40

Being knackered can't be good for decision making .

starrynight19 · 20/12/2020 10:42

Well he did point out he has been up since 5 this morning , what a trooper Hmm

Orf1abc · 20/12/2020 10:42

he’s just trying his best

His best is shit. He's still being reactive rather than proactive, every step is weeks too late. We need leaders that we can have confidence in, that people trust. Once you have that, you'll find the population far more compliant.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 20/12/2020 10:45

He’s got a really tough job that’s not 9 to 5. Just when he likely thought there was light at the end of the tunnel with the vaccine a new strain emerges. He also has to watch and read all those breaking the rules, the mass exodus of London etc and it must be galling. I’d imagine he was shattered, anyone in those circumstances would be.

BasinHaircut · 20/12/2020 10:46

What are you suggesting then OP? That he takes a week off?

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 20/12/2020 10:46

Do you really think all those that have broke the rules wouldn’t have put their own wants first had we have had different people in charge? I highly doubt it in the slightest.
BasinHaircut · 20/12/2020 10:46

And I don’t think anyone is qualified for this.

goodwinter · 20/12/2020 10:48

The population are like children: nobody realises and understands that their parents have to do what’s best for them and make the hard decisions, especially when they can’t be trusted to be responsible themselves.

Our "parents" have made fuckup after fuckup. They sent Covid+ people back into care homes, pissed away millions on PPE that never materialised, U-turned all over the place, completely failed in the implementation of track and trace, Boris got on TV and bragged about shaking hands with Covid patients fgs.

I don't think the govt are doing their best out of concern towards the public at all. I think they're carrying on with their usual blend of nepotism and incompetence.

FoxyTheFox · 20/12/2020 10:49

he’s just trying his best

Given that the government have displayed failure upon failure upon u-turn upon failure, at which point was it that he was "just trying his best"? His best clearly isn't good enough, the level of incompetence right now is astounding.

Goldencurtain · 20/12/2020 10:50

I can't imagine all these judgy people would have done a better job

My heart bleeds for him. Hmm
rollinggreenhills · 20/12/2020 10:50

I wouldn't want his job.

And Marr is enough to make anybody lose their temper.

Fedup21 · 20/12/2020 10:51

If his best is total incompetence, he shouldn’t be in this job.

forwardsbackwardsrebound · 20/12/2020 10:51

I beg to differ.
DrizzleandDamp · 20/12/2020 10:52

Are you Dr Who?

Glitteryone · 20/12/2020 10:52

They’re all bound to be knackered and nearing burnout.

I cannot imagine doing the jobs that they’ve had to do.

FoxyTheFox · 20/12/2020 10:53

I can't imagine all these judgy people would have done a better job

It is not judgemental for members of the electorate to scrutinise the work of a politician, they work for us and we have a right to say whether we think they're doing s good job or not.

And no, I couldn't do a better job. That's because I'm not qualified for such a role, lack the relevant experience, and would be massively out of my depth leading to many fuck-ups - much like Matt Hancock.

Bluewavescrashing · 20/12/2020 10:55

being tetchy and knackered can't be good for decision making

Teachers make decisions every 3 seconds. We are chronically knackered and pushed to the limit by his policies, so also quite tetchy. I have zero sympathy.
