to think Matt Hancock looks knackered

Just watched Marr show
Tetchy, knackered
Obvious why - he must have an enormous workload and responsibility

But being knackered and tetchy can't be good for decision making.

@BasinHaircut

And I don’t think anyone is qualified for this.
Some are definitely less qualified than others though....

Not feeling it for him. Suspect as others have pointed out he's not quite as knackered as all the frontline healthcare workers doing back to back 12 hour shifts. And he gets paid a heck of a lot more than them. So forgive me for having zero sympathy for him and Boris and Mogg and the rest of them.

PoorMansPaulaRadcliffe · 20/12/2020 10:56

@Orf1abc

We all would be if we were in a job that we were completely unqualified for. There's only so long you can wing it, and his time was up months ago.
Yep. Give it up, mate. It's past time.
Malin52 · 20/12/2020 10:56

What most of these men didn't realise is that being a politician in government actually means running the fucking country. When they left Oxford or Cambridge they thought they could just have a cushy job trying to ensure they and their friends made huge amounts of money out of their power. Now they realise they might have to fucking do something and it turns out they hadn't actually bought into that and that they are shit at it.
That's life in government. I don't feel an ounce of pity.

NailsNeedDoing · 20/12/2020 10:59

He seems to like to point out how knackering all this is on him, I heard him the other day talking about how he just hopes he gets a Christmas Hmm

I’ll bet he does a great job at emphasising the dressing gown of doom when he has a little man flu.

MillieMooBee · 20/12/2020 11:00

I said exactly the same when watching it this morning. Don't understand the constant questioning around why they changed things last minute. They changed it to try and protect people and based on new evidence.

Keep saying it but I'm so so glad I'm not having to make these sort of decisions.

PoorMansPaulaRadcliffe · 20/12/2020 11:00

Yes, it's quite an enormous responsibility, isn't it, Health Secretary? At the best of times. I'm quite happy he looks tired, actually. I like to think they're working hard. I'd be worried if he were perpetually bright-eyes and bushy-tailed.

FoxyTheFox · 20/12/2020 11:01

When this government won the election they had one goal, get Brexit over the line. Boris Johnson and the cabinet expected to get his oven ready deal done then ride out the rest of their term shaking hands with carefully selected well-wishers and staging photo ops. It was supposed to be a piece of piss. Boris Johnson would have then stepped down and gone off to a career on the lecture circuit, Gove would get his turn at being leader, and Rishi Sunak would start being groomed to be next in line. Instead Covid turned up and shat all over that plan, unfortunately the crisis required effective leadership and a competent, united government neither of which we have.

trappedsincesundaymorn · 20/12/2020 11:03

Well if the job's getting to much for him he can resign then. He won't be missed.

BrightYellowDaffodil · 20/12/2020 11:04

Then it serves him right. He’s fucked up again and again and he entirely deserves everything that comes to him. Being knackered is nothing compared to what he’s inflicted on the populace.

StormzyinaTCup · 20/12/2020 11:04

Not surprised he was tetchy, I would be bloody tetchy if I was health secretary and was seeing images of throngs of people, from a high risk area, doing a late night flit on public transport to potentially spread a more contagious version of the virus to the rest of the U.K.

CatholicKidston · 20/12/2020 11:04

He can always just fuck off if he doesn't like it.

EnglishGirlApproximately · 20/12/2020 11:05

The argument that all those complaining couldn't do a better job is bizarre. Most couldn't, which is why they haven't spent their lives working towards a position in government. Being ambitious and craving power is fine if you have the skill set to do the job, if you don't its arrogance rather than ambition.
I didn't apply for an internal promotion at work a few weeks ago and my boss asked me why. I explained that I thought I needed a bit more experience to be as successful in the role as I would want to be. Surely its not too much to expect a similar level of self awareness from MPs?

I did have some sympathy for him, he's been massively over promoted and is out of his depth. That sympathy had gone. He's covering his own incompetence with arrogance and disdain and if he had any moral fibre he would step down.

user1471565182 · 20/12/2020 11:06

Thats right Emily, I remember my parents doing their best for me by selling off all my stuff to their friends whilst I was ill with flu so I wouldnt notice.

Probably about the size of it, save the bit about Gove. He'll never be Tory leader. They know people would struggle to vote for him, even die-hard Tories. I reckon it'll be Hunt next.
SonjaMorgan · 20/12/2020 11:11

He is incompetent and should resign. I am sure many of you wouldnt be as sympathetic if we were talking about nurses "doing their best" but killing people in the process. Either you can do a job or you can't.

nosswith · 20/12/2020 11:11

He is out of his depth, has been for months. He has been one of those favouring action more quickly than has been the case, but his killer boss has not responded in the way he should have.

He should resign, or better still, his boss should go.

Roussette · 20/12/2020 11:16

Don't understand the constant questioning around why they changed things last minute. They changed it to try and protect people and based on new evidence

They haven't only just get this evidence and a week ago BoJo was scoffing and ridiculing Starmer for wanting stricter rules ... Boris said that was 'inhuman'... Little Matty Hancock may be tired but it's all relative isn't it?
I imagine an ICU nurse on her feet for endless shifts might beg to differ about levels of tiredness.

StormzyinaTCup · 20/12/2020 11:16

Waverley is Tier 2 (just sayin Wink)

Boris Johnson will resign in the first quarter of next year once we're all well and truly ground down by covid, no deal Brexit, winter in general, and the recession. He'll say its due to his health since he had covid and that he has a young family he needs to concentrate on, now that he's steered the ship through the storm he needs to hand off to a fresh captain who will see us into the port, blah blah blah. Then off he'll fuck and that is when we will get Gove. Next election is going to be a shitshow, it'll be a hung Parliament at the very least, Gove will resign, then we get Sunak if he's ready or Hunt if he isn't.

cushioncovers · 20/12/2020 11:24

This is just my opinion.

The government is made up of people who are doing a job. That's it, it's just a job. They might be wealthier and slightly better educated than most of us but ultimately they are just human. Why do we expect them to be fantastic at battling Mother Nature.

This virus has apparently mutated 25 times since it left Wuhan a year ago. No one knew until very recently if this mutation was anything to get excited about. Now they've realised it is, the government had reacted in a way they think might help.

I'm always amazed that some people think the government will save us or sort it all out for us. They won't, they are only worried about not overloading the Nhs, or fucking up so badly that they get voted out, they don't actually give a damn about our Xmas plans or if your 90 year old granny dies.

This virus has been created by worldwide arrogance and disrespect towards Mother Nature, science has been warning us for years now that we were heading for a zoological pandemic. Bovine TB has begun to cross over to humans, according to some environmental groups bird flu is back in the U.K. but has yet to make the news.

What the fuck do people think Matt Hancock is going to do?

It's time for less whining about Xmas lunch and for us all to start looking at how we are part of the problem. And no I don't vote Tory.

EnjoyingTheSilence · 20/12/2020 11:30

Well I’m also not qualified for the job but I think I could have done better and so could many other people.

For a start, I wouldn’t have relaxed the rules for 5 days over Christmas

I would’t have insisted schools stay open for the last week of term

I wouldn’t have implemented the eat out to help out scheme

I wouldn’t have ended the furlough scheme in October when it was obvious that some industries would need more support for longer
It wouldn’t have taken a footballer for me to look into feeding kids in poverty

I would have shown some compassion

I would have actually listened to experts and taken their advice rather than just saying I am

I would have been clearer in my messages rather then fucking stupid stay alert bollocks

I would probably have been hugely unpopular but this government are hugely incompetent and I’m so angry right now

PizzaForOne · 20/12/2020 11:32

He needs a few days off of nothing but sleep followed by a good shag

UrAWizHarry · 20/12/2020 11:33

@Goldencurtain

I can't imagine all these judgy people would have done a better job
I'm absolutely sure I would. Hancock is a useless cunt in a sea of useless cunts. People need to stop making excuses for the utter shitshow show we have running the country. How many fuckups, hiw much corruption and how much self-serving shit does it take?
TwoHoots74 · 20/12/2020 11:34

Maybe because it was patently obvious that the 5 day virus amnesty was a stupid idea?
