This was said by someone on the news:

"We just made the decision to leave based on the fact that my parents said come, and we couldn't bear the thought of no fresh air and a toddler going rogue round a small flat for the foreseeable," she said.

There are loads of us facing this exact situation and are just bloody well dealing with it.

@Aalvarino

I dont think the escapees are terrible people at all but stuck inside? Ruining childhoods?? Really...! Get a sense of proportion. You can still go to the park or out in the fresh air. Childhoods are ruined by death, serious disease, crushing poverty, things like that. Not a year of half-assed restrictions.
Actually being unable to socialise or live normal lives can affect kids brain development, so no, its not hyperbole
Samcro · 20/12/2020 10:01

@CrotchBurn

Yeah its draconian. You want to live in an invisible prison then more fool you. The rest of us will start living rather than existing
the people who post shit like these are obviously not worried about dying/getting ill/killing people.
Trickyboy · 20/12/2020 10:01

@Biker47

Good for them. If more people do it, the government will know this draconian shit isn't flying anymore, and have to come up with alternatives that actually work.
Ok then ... enlighten us. What would YOU do ?
Trickyboy · 20/12/2020 10:02

@ForestNymph

Good. I'm sick of this now, my patience with it has run out and I'm not prepared to sacrifice my civil liberties and my children's childhoods any longer. Fuck it.
So that means you are willing to sacrifice peoples lives then ?
ChristmasinJune · 20/12/2020 10:02

Like what?? What do you actually have in mind that hasn't already been tried?
Do you honestly think that people are deliberately ruining the country for the hell of it when there's a better alternative?

AppleKatie · 20/12/2020 10:02

You can’t close train stations before restrictions are announced. Shock This is England. Do get a grip.

If people felt moved to panic flee then that is their right and we need to be looking at why they felt it necessary and see what can be done to help.

WhenSheWasBad · 20/12/2020 10:02

@Anyoldname12

Draconian Hmm the hyperbol. If Boris had the balls to actually implement “draconian” lockdowns earlier, the shit show we’re all living in at the moment wouldn’t be so bad.
Absolutely.

These people will spread the new variant to the North & Midlands. My relatives in London are doing the right thing. They’ve cancelled plans and will be staying put. It’s shit for them and us but it’s the only sensible option.

ForestNymph · 20/12/2020 10:04

It kills less than 1%. Yes, I am happy with that figure in exchange for the rest of us having civil liberties. I'd rather no one died but unfortunately people die, its a fact of life, and this attempt to sanitise it and hide from death behind an invisible sterile bubble is far more damaging

Seriously?

Those poor people north of London who have been in T3 since the summer whilst SE has pretty much as much normality as is available right now.

Who have finally managed to get rates down - and have now got the SE more transmissible strain to deal with as it's being taken up there.

I'm SE. I wouldn't dream or putting others at risk for my own sake. It's so incredibly selfish.

DecemberSun · 20/12/2020 10:04

The world is full of selfish cunts who know they will probably survive the virus if they get it and don't give a fuck if they kill someone else along the way.

Welcome to Britain 2020

ForestNymph · 20/12/2020 10:04

That was to @Trickyboy, my quotes dont always work for some reason

Crazycatlady83 · 20/12/2020 10:04

This mutation has already reached the Netherlands (earlier this month) - if you think it isn’t already up the m1, you must be living on another planet!

Like what?! Theres a fucking virus spreading through the air. There aren't many solutions: reduce transmission, vaccinate, do nothing and let everyone ill or old die. Feel free to offer your expert advice.

Its insanely selfish and stupid to travel out of a place that's going into lockdown because of the virus rates. Time and time again it happens and causes massive spread. All that will happen is less notice of lockdown, and police and military at city borders and motorways to turn them back round.

Those people could well be carrying covid, and kill their parents, will it be worth it?

NorbertMeubles · 20/12/2020 10:06

Don't blame the people, blame the government for having absolutely no leadership.

Randominternetbitch · 20/12/2020 10:06

Here go with blaming people again for just trying live. How dare people try and be with thie loved ones during such horrendous times? How dare they try to do their best given ridiculously short notice. Enough is enough with the judgements and name calling. Get over yourself and get a life!

Trickyboy · 20/12/2020 10:06

Fantastically imbecilic !

This is the attitude that makes it all go on and on and on.
People need to knuckle down, think of others health before their own needs and just get in with it. The virus gives not a shiny shit for peoples boredom .

Nowaynothappening · 20/12/2020 10:06

The government have handled it appallingly. They told people they could be together for Christmas and have now snatched that possibly away 5 days before Christmas. Of course people are going to break the rules. I think people were always going to break the rules anyway tbh, the ‘three family bubble’ would definitely have been abused by many.

Hardbackwriter · 20/12/2020 10:06

@DonkeyMcFluff

I blame the government. It’s obvious that if they announce restrictions are coming in, people will flee before the deadline. Better to announce restrictions starting from 12pm LAST night so it’s too late for people to leave.
What, and anyone who happens to be in tier 4 for the day is just stuck there?! Confused

My brother was working in London yesterday - is it ok that he came home (to tier 2) or should he have decided that the building site he was on would have to be his new home? Incidentally he said the roads were fine.

Its done on purpose so they can blame the spike on the public defying the rules rather than poor management.
LovingCountryLife · 20/12/2020 10:08

@Brieminewine

Good for them. If they left before midnight and both sides were happy then what’s the problem?

We all have to make individual risk assessments and do what feels right. For me, as front line nhs that means deciding to stay home and not visit family despite being ‘allowed’ as I don’t want to risk infecting them but I don’t begrudge others, this year has been shit for us all.

What a charitable post. If only everyone was as level headed as you.
Ponoka7 · 20/12/2020 10:08

"Have a look at the people who have died. There are a lot of people under 50, who were previously healthy."

Can you link any? The ones I've seen were all obese, or had other issues around lifestyle. I ended up on a Tampa newspaper because of the suspension of a detective. They list the people who died. No one under 70 were a healthy body weight.

If this virus is as dangerous as some claim, then why are the CV who have to work, be in education etc so low down on the list for a vaccination?

I understand the hospitals being overwhelmed etc, but we are getting figures for other deaths because of lock down and lock down is killing younger people including children. That's without the economic destruction, which parts of the North won't recover from. So I won't condemn an isolated family, with toddlers getting out of a small flat.

Welcome to Britain 2020

This sums it up ^

Everyone flouting the rules has their own 'special reason' .

NorbertMeubles · 20/12/2020 10:10

And yes, OP, get over yourself. We are not all in this together. If you have outside space, spare rooms, money, food and no work worries and time to get on with your hobbies etc it is very different to someone in a one bed flat with kids struggling to make ends meet. You do not know the situations of other people so mind your own business and stay inside your own house if that suits you and judge away. The people you judge give zero fucks what you think.

Chinainmyhandsoitis · 20/12/2020 10:12

They are not the selfish ones. People wanting them to stay inside a flat with a toddler for most of a year might want to think about what constitutes selfish.

Nottherealslimshady · 20/12/2020 10:12

The whole "ruining childhoods" thing is laughable. There are children fleeing war, whose parents have been killed, living in squalid conditions, being abused, being refused sanctuary in our country, dying in terrifying attempts to get to safe countries, being imprisoned away from their parents and abused.

Your kids childhood hasn't been ruined because they have to spend a Christmas at home with mum and dad, cant go to soft play, and cant hug their grandparents for a few months.

Seriously, get a grip, if you care about childrens childhoods then start doing something to protect and help those children whose childhoods are being ruined, not by a virus but by other human beings who are choosing to hurt those children. Do we really all live in such a pretty little bubble that we cant see how much better we STILL have it compared to an awful lot of people around the world?!
