To want Scotland to invade the North of England?

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 17/12/2020 19:27

Having been royally shat on by the English government during this whole Covid debacle, I'm wondering whether it would be fucking fantastic if Sturgeon and her gang stampeded down to maybe the River Tees and just took the lot for Scotland's own.

Anyone still northern but further south than the River Tees who would campaign for them to move the border even further south?

I live in Newcastle now and am originally Welsh, so no fan of those in Westminster and certainly don't think they have our best interests in mind, or even an understanding of us in the regions, or in the other British nations.
However I voted YABU because in general I am against nationalism, I don't think further separating off into smaller and smaller independent nations is the answer.
I don't know what is though! But I wouldn't want this.

WaxOnFeckOff · 19/12/2020 13:05

The thing is that SNP supporters have been used to operating in an echo chamber. They don't like it when other people have view and other than copy and paste stuff from the SNP sites, they don't really want to get into a debate. No-one is stopping anyone from posting anywhere. I find it refreshing that people on here are able to post the non SNP narrative and funnily enough it's never bullying the other way and the idea that just because you think the scotgov is doing a shite job that automatically makes you a tory is getting very tired.

I don't think people appreciate that it's our job as citizens to call out where things are not working for the people and that it's healthy and proper that we do. Especially when there is no 2nd chamber.

They are like bloody teflon and it's about time they were properly called to account. That doesn't mean that I think Boris et all are doing a great job, but they are certainly not doing worse.

I just don't get why people seem so keen to allow so much control and intrusion into the minutia of their lives and yet seem unconcerned with the massive issues that exist in Scotland.

I'm just sick of "A big boy did it and ran away", chip on the shoulder, authoritarian shit show.

And on that note I'm away to get ready for my lovely lunch out (can't have dinner in case Covid gets me) with no alcohol (not allowed a drink in case covid gets me)

@Nc135

Reading all the comments on here - who then does vote for the SNP given their awful track record? Is it because there is no alt?
It's almost like a few comments on mumsnet don't represent the entire population of Scotland.
Nc135 · 19/12/2020 13:53

@klaerntrapetor cool! So defend the position given the dire facts.

lioncitygirl · 19/12/2020 13:56

Haha - I don’t think you could to be honest..... not that they would want you to either. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Prozacyogurt · 19/12/2020 14:06

Is it because there is no alt?

For me it is, until we get independence anyway.

WaxOnFeckOff · 19/12/2020 14:13

I just vote for who is most likely to defeat the SNP candidate so negative voting really, it's not what I want to do but needs must.

Their own report tells us we would be in austerity for around 10 years and that was pre covid.

HouchinBawbags · 19/12/2020 14:13

@WellyBootsAreYouFrom

So the North of England can share Scotland's dreadful performance on drug abuse and education? No thanks!
A cannae say yer wrong there.
NewNameNewJob · 19/12/2020 14:15

Leeds. Wouldn't be much of an invasion would put the bloody kettle on for them and plead for a Scottish European passport as soon as possible!

WaxOnFeckOff · 19/12/2020 14:17

Oh and in reference to the original post, there is no "English " government.

JimmyJabs · 19/12/2020 14:17

Hard pass from this Yorkshirewoman. It would be like being in an emotionally abusive relationship with someone who holds you in contempt.

Prozacyogurt · 19/12/2020 14:28

It would be like being in an emotionally abusive relationship with someone who holds you in contempt

Pretty much what we've put up with for the past 300+ years.

InTheLongGrass · 19/12/2020 14:29

I dont think the Tees is quite the right line to draw - it cuts too many places in half. Please can you draw the line a little further south? A mile or so further south would keep me happy! Basically anywhere south of here.

Maireas · 19/12/2020 14:30

What is a "Scottish European Passport"?

missrks · 19/12/2020 14:33

@Flaxmeadow

Im from the North of England. It's a big NO from me

Apart from anything else, Scotland wouldn't stand a snowballs chance in hades of invading the North Of England anyway. By population the Scots would be massively outnumbered 3 to 1 for a start. Wouldn't be sport would it?

You's would receive an un-holy skelpin from the Scots. x
CrotchBurn · 19/12/2020 14:34

It always make me smile when Scots claim to be culturally closer to the Scandis. What like binge drinking and deep fried foods?

Maybe the upper middle classes feel that way, but then that's no different to the English upper middle classes.

The rest of the country is clearly culturally British.

JimmyJabs · 19/12/2020 14:44

@Prozacyogurt

It would be like being in an emotionally abusive relationship with someone who holds you in contempt

Pretty much what we've put up with for the past 300+ years.

But then why would you want to incorporate any of England into Scotland? Doesn't sound like it would have any mutual benefits.
romany4 · 19/12/2020 15:14

I'm a southerner originally. Lived in Scotland for 12 years. Now in Yorkshire for the last 18.
I think a border below Sheffield would be a good idea...

MsPeachh · 19/12/2020 15:23

Scotland’s drug record is poor, but as someone who is from the one of the most affected areas, I think it’s a deeply cultural issue- by that I don’t think Scotland’s government is doing any worse than the rest of the UK at tackling the issue. Poverty, plus long, cold and dark nights up here with few outdoor activities during the winter lead to depression and people looking for quick fixes imo.

QuestionableMouse · 19/12/2020 15:29

The border is maybe 70 miles from me. I think we should just make the North an independent region through.

Flaxmeadow · 19/12/2020 16:00

Pretty much what we've put up with for the past 300+ years.

Those 300 years of Scottish incursions into the North of England? So much pillage and plunder, until the day the Yorkshire puddings and Lancashire hot pots fought back, gave them the thrashing they'd been asking for, and that was the end of that

Ifailed · 19/12/2020 16:13

I think we should just make the North an independent region through.

Fine, but are you prepared to fund it independently ?

SenorFrog · 19/12/2020 16:25

County Durham, a big fat no from me.
I love Scotland, I have a Scottish father and much family and friends there, still a no.

Turolive · 19/12/2020 17:41
@LakieLady I don’t think you would say that if your read this thread.
Do you get all your information about what's happening in Scotland from what people say on mumsnet?
