To want Scotland to invade the North of England?

Having been royally shat on by the English government during this whole Covid debacle, I'm wondering whether it would be fucking fantastic if Sturgeon and her gang stampeded down to maybe the River Tees and just took the lot for Scotland's own.

Anyone still northern but further south than the River Tees who would campaign for them to move the border even further south?

Fuck no! Though at least we'd still get to be in the EU, so there's that.

Pugdogmom · 18/12/2020 19:01

Born in Northumberland and live in Scotland and I would say yes to that.
And to the "Jimmy Krankie" and "Nippy " comments, are you grown adults or 5 year olds?
And yes, I have seen Govanhill because I lived there as a student. There are issues undoubtedly, but they were there years back too. Quite a lot of good work is being done in Govanhill, but hey let's just look at a few Youtube videos and condemn it, when you have actually never been. Loads of slum landlords where the current GCC has made compulsory purchase orders on.

As a Scottish primary school teacher, we look at the English system with absolute horror. I can't imagine subjecting my children to the kinds of assessments done there. Also the focus on SPAG in what is just undoubtedly the wrong way must destroy love of literacy for many. Our curriculum isn't perfect but if delivered under competent teachers it is good.

letsghostdance · 18/12/2020 19:08

Also those Govanhill videos are utter nonsense. Yes there are many problems and people living in poverty that's far beyond acceptable, but there's also a wonderful and thriving community there. I visit regularly for the bookshop, bars and the Transylvanian shop and have always felt safe.

SNP health minister just resigned over shocking level of drugs deaths in Scotland - the highest in Europe. You can have him too

MitziK · 18/12/2020 19:15

@LostAcre

Ooh, it does sound tempting.

But that might be one of those the grass is always greener on the other side things.....

That'll be the rain.

Same way people always go on about wanting to sell their shoeboxes in Zone 2 for a million and live the Good Life in rural Devon. Most get the hell out within a couple of years when they realise just how much it pisses down once you get past Exeter St David's.

letsghostdance · 18/12/2020 19:20

Also, the Scottish government proposed safe drug treatment rooms. The sort that have been shown to massively reduce drug deaths. However, that was blocked by Westminster.

And believe me, I'm no SNP fan.

MrsAvocet · 18/12/2020 19:22

We live just south of the border, and my DH works in Scotland. Our nearest big city and airport are in Scotland and I feel we have more in common with Scotland than the South of England. Our eldest child has already moved permanently to Scotland. Once our younger children have finished their secondary education I think we will probably move too. I'd be very happy for the border to move slightly south.

Ihaveoflate · 18/12/2020 19:22

Yes, please!!

From West Yorkshire.

GrinchnotHinch · 18/12/2020 19:22

I'm on the border of Scotland but on the English side (West) and we wish we were in Scotland! Nothing would change for us not even the weather and barely the accent, we would love the border line to move down a little bit!

feellikeanalien · 18/12/2020 19:31

We're only 20 miles from the border in Northumberland. If we can get rid of the SNP and have Jon Snow as King of the North then I'm up for it.

Christmassequins · 18/12/2020 19:35

@LadyCatStark

No, I vote for forging our own kingdom with Andy Burnham as the King in the North!
God no thanks. Self-serving smooth slimeball. I see he was too cowardly to take any questions on his police force being put into special measures.

And Nicola with her anti women policies can bugger off too.

If you could make it the swale please we'll stay in the same country as the pils.

juneybean · 18/12/2020 19:39

No need to invade, Sunderland here and I will come willingly.

Maireas · 18/12/2020 19:40

feellikeanalien is he the bloke that does Battlefield Britain with his son Dan, or the one that reads C4 news? Actually, either would be a good leader.

Pugdogmom · 18/12/2020 19:45

Scottish drug deaths aren't great. However many are in the 35-55 age group so people that have taken them for years unfortunately. They did look at safe injecting rooms and Westminster said no.
I find the previous post pretty abhorrent and racist.

Pugdogmom · 18/12/2020 19:46

Sorry to clarify, the post I said was racist has been deleted.

Maireas · 18/12/2020 19:49

Pugdogmom thank goodness! I thought I was being funny, so had to check it for racism!! BlushXmas Grin

Maireas I was actually thinking of the Jon Snow character from Game of Thrones.Grin
Miseryl · 18/12/2020 20:01

No, the North should be its own devolved region. Grin

StoneofDestiny · 18/12/2020 20:19

Wee Nippy is a fucking dictator No - she has a whopping majority in a democratic election

And I don't want their drug issues either - I wonder why there are so many more substance users north of the border

Think you will find there is substantial drug use in many areas south of the border with a pretty active 'county lines' supply route.

Think you will also find Boris Johnson is a completely inept, shagaholic, self serving liar who is dragging the UK down so far it is scary - even UNICEF is having to support poor kids in London!

MrsWooster · 18/12/2020 20:27

Yes please. They can get independence, rejoin Europe, and then swoop down and scoop us up (in Leeds). Makes perfect sense, geographically speaking-looking at the map you’ve got a dint on one side with the Humber, a dint on the other from the Mersey, so we could just do a little ditch across the middle to join them up, and sit on the north side flinging Haggis and tariff-free Brie over to the poor southerners.

1Morewineplease · 18/12/2020 20:32

No. Not a fan of divisive acrimony.
