I'm due to have the vaccine in an hour. Would you?

Just that. Am curious to see what MNers would do if offered.

YANBU - I WOULD have the vaccine.

YABU - I WOULD NOT have the vaccine.

Am 40. NHS worker. Healthy and low risk.

It’s good all you sheep are having the vaccine, but I am not

oblada · 18/12/2020 20:25

In your shoes I'd probably have it given the frontline role.
For me - no, don't think so. I have a history of allergy to vaccines, I am breastfeeding and I am not at risk. So I'll wait and see.

Ihatefish · 18/12/2020 20:44

I think, like every other medicine/procedure it’s a matter of personal choice. Over 50/underlying health conditions etc the benefits would probably outweigh the risks. If this group get vaccinated the government have said this will cut out 99%of deaths/icu admissions. I think it’s then a matter of weighing up whether you want it or not. There’s many people the government are advising against having it. If I was in a front line role and at high risk of high virus load -probably. But healthy, no known risk factors, having had it (which in the rare cases of reinfection seems to dramatically reduce symptoms) balanced with the inherent risks of a new medicine (or any medicine) it will be a no, history indicates that remits diseases like this either wipe themselves out/create inherent immunity in a population/ seems to mutate so it’s less dangerous and I suspect this will happen here long before the vast majority of the worlds population even get offered the jab. Has the EU even approved it yet?

Suzypoo10 · 18/12/2020 20:48

Absolutely. I am a single mum, in my 50s with three underlying health conditions, however I am in around category 6, and won’t get it until mid-late March (according to a calculator on the Daily Fail website).

earnshaw47 · 18/12/2020 20:52

i think everyone, and i mean everyone should have the vaccine, if not for your sake then others you may come in contact with, whats the problem with having it,

starlight13 · 18/12/2020 20:54

No, I won't be having it.

piesinmyeyes · 18/12/2020 21:13

Of course. It should be mandatory

MossandRoy · 18/12/2020 21:16

If I could, I would, but I've got to wait for one suitable for people with allergies. Can't wait!

gypsywater · 18/12/2020 21:18

Mandatory vaccines...is this 1984?!

piesinmyeyes · 18/12/2020 21:22

No it's 2020 and people that decide not to have it are putting everyone else at risk. Read. The lancet. Listen to the scientists. Ignore social media 'experts'

gypsywater · 18/12/2020 21:23

I'm a doctor so I'm fully aware thanks. Still dont agree with mandatory vaccination though.

RosesAndHellebores · 18/12/2020 21:39

Of course it shouldn't be mandatory. No vaccination should be mandatory. Has anyone told HV's and GP's @gypsywater. I don't recall much engagement with a discussion about evidence based research and choice. Rather, it's my job to make sure your baby is vaccinated. And that was nearly 26 years ago and I gather it's got a little more robust since.

Surely you aren't saying that nurses and drs have more right to have a choice than parents? Well golly gosh if you chaps must have a choice, shouldn't the rest of us - even parents. I did vaccinate BTW but I'd have liked a more intellectual discussion from those instructing me I should. Perhaps the NHS should be a little more willing to take its own medicine don't you think?

honeyharris · 18/12/2020 22:18

As someone who was shielding, yeah gimme it. Im assuming the side effects don't include death, unlike covid

42isthemeaning · 18/12/2020 22:25

I'd be first in the queue
Teacher in a secondary school
Late 40s

Ihatefish · 18/12/2020 22:35

It’s scary that people think any medical procedure should be mandatory. I have a right to my own body.

Tell you what, let’s start forced sterilisation on people who we don’t think will produce optimum babies and only allow one per mother followed by sterilisation while were at it. It’s for the good of society after all.

People really have lost all fucking perspective

JillApple · 18/12/2020 22:39

HELL YEAH! I WOULD.

gypsywater · 18/12/2020 22:40

Forced vaccination is crazy. It's never going to happen. Clinicians would just leave.

Pinkfluff76 · 18/12/2020 22:41

Definitely not

Mischance · 18/12/2020 22:46

If you don't want it, I'll have it.

MooseBreath · 18/12/2020 22:54

I wouldn't...yet. I am not even 30 yet (not vulnerable either) and would have to live with 50 years of long-term side-effects if anything went wrong. At the moment, the risk of the vaccine is higher for me than actually contracting Covid.

A year from now? I may reconsider.

BlueSkies2020 · 18/12/2020 23:49

Still baffled by those worried about side effects. All vaccines and medications carry the very small risk of side effects. Most will be minor. Some unlucky people will get the severe reaction. But the risks of covid will far outweigh any risks associated with vaccination. It’s illogical to think this way. They have gone through clinical trials. By that logic you definitely shouldn’t fly, drive a car or cycle a bike. You must live in cotton wool.

Unless of course you have a medical reason such as allergies or other diseases where vaccines are not recommended.

It’s our public duty to get vaccinated. I hope they introduce vaccine passports to keep the anti vaxxers out of public spaces.

BlueSkies2020 · 18/12/2020 23:52

Oh and the people talking about the low risk to them of covid. That’s not the point!! You get vaccinated to protect the vulnerable in society.

smalloranges · 19/12/2020 00:12

You need to make sure you aren’t pregnant. And if you are planning to get pregnant then you need to wait at least two months after the vaccine.

trulydelicious · 19/12/2020 00:31

@BlueSkies2020

Are you aware of the fact that these vaccines are getting emergency approval only?

It’s our public duty to get vaccinated

Are you aware of the fact that these vaccines have not been proven to prevent transmission?

Please check your facts

I hope they introduce vaccine passports to keep the anti vaxxers out of public spaces

This is not going to happen, so keep on hoping if it makes you happy

Depends which one. Pfizer has a rap/violation sheet as long as your arm for corruption, lying, false results, damage and and. The Oxford one looks far more promising. They are not in it for profit like the Pfizer one.
