I'm due to have the vaccine in an hour. Would you?

Just that. Am curious to see what MNers would do if offered.

YANBU - I WOULD have the vaccine.

YABU - I WOULD NOT have the vaccine.

Am 40. NHS worker. Healthy and low risk.

I would agree to have the vaccine but in a low priority group so won’t apply to me on a long time. I do understand nervousness on the accelerated development cycle but I think this will settle down as more vaccinations take place safely.

@Aria999

the long term effects of covid appear fairly grim

Yes, there are risks to both the virus and the vaccine

Yes, there are risks to both the virus and the vaccine

What are the risks from the vaccine?

gettingolderbutcooler · 18/12/2020 12:24

Of course I'd have it!

Coldilox · 18/12/2020 12:33

I’m on. Clinical trial for a different vaccine (Novavax). It’s a double blind trial, so no idea if I’ve had the vaccine or placebo (50/50). If I get offered the Rolex out vaccine prior to the end of the trial (another 11 months) I will be unblinded. If I’ve had a placebo I will absolutely get the vaccine I’m offered. If I’ve had the trial vaccine then I won’t unless the one I’ve had is less effective (although data for novavax currently showing more than 90% effective).

Coldilox · 18/12/2020 12:34

*rolled out, not Rolex!

clarehhh · 18/12/2020 17:25

Yes

I'm on the same trial. I hadn't heard it was 90%; that's great news.

I'll definitely be taking the vaccine if I'm in the placebo group.

cherish123 · 18/12/2020 17:34

Of course.

Roberta268 · 18/12/2020 17:35

I’ve already got long COVID since February so not that fussed. I’d take a bullet before I took this vaccine.

cherish123 · 18/12/2020 17:35

@randomchap there won't be a placebo/control group unless it's a trial.

PinkFondantFancy · 18/12/2020 17:38

@UserEleventyNine who knows yet, that's the point unfortunately. But given that every other vaccine ever rolled out has a full list of potential, albeit rare, side effects ranging from mild to very serious, no reason to suppose this will be any different.

WiddlinDiddlin · 18/12/2020 17:38

I'll be having it the second I am offered it.

Long term side effects are of no interest to me, to put it bluntly, I don't have a particularly long term with my health conditions and the risk of covid dramatically outweighs the risk of long term vaccine side effects which are highly unlikely.

I vape, I am not concerned about the long term side effects of that either, and if I am happy to do that, id be a frigging idiot NOT to take the vaccine.

My gripe is that whilst my various conditions SHOULD see me next in line for the vaccine after those in care homes and NHS workers, its likely my age will see me way down the back of the line which means more months of shielding at home. As gripes go however, thats a pretty minor one.

WiddlinDiddlin · 18/12/2020 17:40

@Roberta268 why would having long covid stop you having the vaccine, it looks like having already had covid does not mean you can't get it again! Surely if you get covid again, and are already suffering long lasting damage from the first bout, you'll be worse off next time round?

Yogalola · 18/12/2020 17:44

Go for it

Yespresh · 18/12/2020 17:46

I cant wait yet my stupid 89 year old mother is saying “but they dont know whats in it”.

Lalliella · 18/12/2020 17:46

Definitely. Can’t wait. Want to do my bit to bring this horrible situation to an end and get back to normal. People refusing to have it without a good medical reason should stay in their houses forever imo.

Bigtitties38 · 18/12/2020 17:56

Definitely yes! Mines booked for next week CEV nhs worker, and have history of allergies. I caught covid in March, led to pneumonia, then long covid. Even the chance of a ( very treatable) allergic reaction doesn’t put me off after 8 months of illness! Even if it means I could still catch COVID and it be half as bad I’m still having it. I don’t want to go through anything like that again!

Alexxxy · 18/12/2020 17:58

Of course I had mine this afternoon NHS staff.

Bearlover16 · 18/12/2020 17:59

A vaccine against a virus that has a 99.7% survival rate? Nah, you're all right thanks.

Floods123 · 18/12/2020 18:02

Yes. Those that refuse should be charged for NHS treatment if they catch Vivid.

Floods123 · 18/12/2020 18:03

Covid! Sodding predictive text!

Bearlover16 · 18/12/2020 18:10

You do know that you may still catch Covid after being vaccinated right? Just the symptoms may not be as severe. It will not make you immune and this isn't the magic bullet people think it is. Hmm

rozee83 · 18/12/2020 18:10

Nope. Not having it!

Tomorrowillbeachicken · 18/12/2020 18:11

I’m not atm but I have allergies
