I'm due to have the vaccine in an hour. Would you?

Just that. Am curious to see what MNers would do if offered.

YANBU - I WOULD have the vaccine.

YABU - I WOULD NOT have the vaccine.

Am 40. NHS worker. Healthy and low risk.

I can't wait to get it. Nice early Xmas present. Lucky you.

picklesanne · 18/12/2020 18:21

I would have it and would consider myself lucky

ancientgran · 18/12/2020 18:24

I’m not atm but I have allergies I hope one of the other vaccines is suitable for people with allergies so that everyone will have the opportunity to be protected.

rozee83 · 18/12/2020 18:25

Sorry but that is utterly daft reason not to have it. It’s only unknown because they haven’t studied it yet - they are not saying there’s any known risk.

I mean, eating a food you’ve never tried before could have unknown effects on fertility but it wouldn’t stop you???

I am TTC and will be having it.

Totally irrelevant comparison! Food has been eaten for billions of years?!
This has been out, what, couple months?
It’s good all you sheep are having the vaccine, but I am not and will not have it for at least 5 years. I am asthmatic too, so high risk! I’ll chance it, thanks.

shergar · 18/12/2020 18:39

I’m a hospital consultant and have a PhD in molecular biology. I took part in a vaccine trial but if I am in the placebo arm I will certainly have this vaccine. I can’t understand how people can watch the news and see how many people are dyong from this virus - some young and otherwise healthy - and think a vaccine which has been tested on huge numbers of people without incident is the higher risk. We have a very good idea of what the long term effects of a vaccine will be (none), but not the virus. There are a number of viruses which cause problems far into the future (eg EBV can trigger cancer long after initial infection) and we have no idea yet what this one will do. I know which one I’d rather have.

HowManyToes · 18/12/2020 18:39

Absolutely. I can't wait for my mum and her friends to get it so they can see each other again. Seeing how lonely she's been this year has been heartbreaking.

HollowTalk · 18/12/2020 18:41

@PhilCornwall1

No I wouldn't be having it.
Do you think we should all refuse? Would you be happier in an enclosed space with people who have been vaccinated or with those who haven't?
earnshaw47 · 18/12/2020 18:43

i honestly cant undestand why some wont have the vaccine

gypsywater · 18/12/2020 18:45

People have said upthread reasons for not having it. The vast majority will be having it so dont worry.

Duanphen · 18/12/2020 18:46

I joined a trial.

So, um, yeah.

It contains no live virus and the primary trials were successful.

Duanphen · 18/12/2020 18:47

One care home reported the paper his dimwitted staff said it would "turn them into Stepford Wives."

Can't argue with that level of thick.

tenlittlecygnets · 18/12/2020 18:47

Yes I would!!

ChristmasBubble · 18/12/2020 18:51

Advice is not to have it if pregnant or TTC so I'm not going to have it right now. I'm not frontline but am NHS so I'll reassess when my turn comes round.

FoodologistGirl · 18/12/2020 18:54

I can’t wait to get mine. As the mother of a virologist I’ve known it’s only a matter of time until it was rolled out. It’s so safe as it doesn’t contain any of the covid virus just a masked dna version. It’s not rushed as they have been working on vector vaccines since Ebola. Many animal vaccines are done this way for years. It’s amazing that the FEMALE scientist prof Sarah Gilbert at oxford did it in a weekend after the dna coding was uploaded from China in April. She deserves an OBE at least

PortalooSunset · 18/12/2020 19:08

I genuinely don't know if I'll have it or not (NHS, have been offered). I've had covid, and 3+ months later still had antibodies. I'm 6 months further on now so want another antibody test before I decide - if I've still got my own antibodies I'll let someone else have my shot. We've also got a relative who is vaccine damaged (not autism btw, we all know that's horseshit) which is worrisome.

DipSwimSwoosh · 18/12/2020 19:11

No. I am low risk and don't want it.

sunnybean60 · 18/12/2020 19:12

Yes yes and yes I would!

Whatelsecouldibecalled · 18/12/2020 19:14

@rozee83 advice is NOT to have it if ttc

Empressofthemundane · 18/12/2020 19:15

Nice write up about this. From an American perspective but still good.

Myshinynewname · 18/12/2020 19:24

YANBU go for it. I'd love to be able to have it this week.

WilsonMilson · 18/12/2020 19:25

Absolutely no chance

mimosaadorna · 18/12/2020 19:26

I’d love it, but I’m too scared to have it- my sister died after having The BCG, and I have very severe allergies and autoimmune issues........until we know more about it, I wont have it

RoseMartha · 18/12/2020 19:31

I really dont want it until we know more about it.

(As a matter of interest I used the online calculator to see when I would be eligible for it. Apparently nearly 29 million people are in front of me in the queue and i can expect to have it in June if i want it).

Jynxed · 18/12/2020 19:48

I had mine nearly a week ago, also an NHS worker, and over 50. No side effects or adverse reactions at all (and no additional leanings towards Bill Gates or Government directions yet . . .)

eastegg · 18/12/2020 20:11

I'm envious on behalf of my 87 yr old DF who is still waiting to hear. If I was offered it I'd have it to protect my DPs who I simply can't see at the moment and haven't seen for ages
