To ask something you’d love that you can’t ever have

Is there anything in this world you would love to do or have that just isn’t an achievable goal? You know when people say you can achieve anything if you set your mind to it? Well, the thing you can’t have either way.

Mine would be to adopt a child. I have all the love in my heart to give to adoptive children, I know I could love them just as my own and deal with the challenges unconditionally. Unfortunately I have a mental health diagnosis, two previous (malicious) reports to Social Services and a DP who doesn’t feel the same on the subject. I do have biological children but I will always dream of adopting.

Is there anything for you?

I would love to be really valued by my parents.

It's terribly sad, but I can't let go of that wish really. I wish they would be proud of me. There are lots of reasons why they can't, not all their fault, but it is something I find very hard to break away from.

I hope (and work hard to ensure that) my DD doesn't feel the same about me.

A beagle or french bull dog puppy.

LadyTiredWinterBottom2 · 14/12/2020 23:30

Some really heart breaking comments.

I would want my grandad back, just for a day, so l could tell him what l have achieved since he has been gone and introduce him to his wonderful great grand daughter.

Money, lots of money would make me happier. People say money doesn't buy happiness, but I know it would help me.

To be able to sing in a choir. I have a weird form of tone deafness. I can hear the right notes in my head but have no control over the sound that comes out of my mouth. But I can tell it's not right. I've always wanted to sing in a choir.

I'd like to be 19 again, just for one day.

It would be 1996, Pulp would be playing as I got ready to go out. That first sip of beer and first Marlboro Red of the night always tasted amazingly intense on one of those Saturday nights full of possibilities.

Onlymeandthedognow · 14/12/2020 23:37

To have the fitness and suppleness I had in my younger years.... I did ballet and gymnastics, swimming and diving and was at ‘my peak’ in my tweenage and teenage years.
Sadly, in my middle 50s now, every part of me clicks, creaks, grinds and aches every day, and although when I watch the gymnastics on tv, I am totally certain I can still do it all... in reality, I often have to use the ddog to haul me to my feet...🙁
My poor feet hurt all day every day, due to the ballet, and the gymnastics wrecked the rest...
I’d love, just for a day, to have the wonderful physical energy I had back then.

I'd love, with all my heart, for my wonderful son to be well again so his health is the last thing on his and our family's mind.

Failing that, a time machine so I can go back and spot his illness earlier, before things took hold, and insist on investigations on the first GP visit instead of waiting until the fourth.

StopGo · 14/12/2020 23:38

24 hours with my DC and their late dad.

Olivetreekeeper · 14/12/2020 23:39

To speak multiple languages fluently and have houses around the world where I can live for extended periods of time. The latter is dependent on a lottery win (to buy the houses and then to be able to spend months away from work) and the former I fear is just impossible as I have absolutely no head for languages. I've tried so hard so many times and just get no where.

Mychitchatdays · 14/12/2020 23:40

To be truly confident and not just be pretending that I am either that or getting my castle back that the government stole from my family and used the bricks to build Westminster 😂😂

dizzycatdance2 · 14/12/2020 23:40

To not have my skin condition so that I could have been a midwife.

  1. A better & close relationship my parents and brothers.
  2. My sister to still be alive and for us to have had a good relationship (she was mentally extremely unwell her whole adult life until she died age 38, which made her very difficult to be around)
  3. Have more fun, be less anxious.

Id really love to walk from my living room to my kitchen without fearing I'll fall over. Id love to be able to get something on the bottom shelf of my fridge.

Id love to be able to turn the lights on my Xmas tree on and off.

Thats today's wish list.

M0rT · 14/12/2020 23:42

@DoreensEatingHerSoreen me too!

2me2u2u2me · 14/12/2020 23:43

To win millions on the lottery, then read about people that are really struggling and be able to help. Also have my two brothers and mum back Sad

Tempjob · 14/12/2020 23:43

To cure my son's disability :-(

Anotherlovelybitofsquirrel · 14/12/2020 23:44

Mine along with many others would be to see Mr Johnson and his government in prison for a very long time

@Gottalovesummer I'm sorry. That made me cry.

Some of these make me feel very humble and lucky.

Anotherlovelybitofsquirrel · 14/12/2020 23:48

The quote failed... the prison thing was meant to have this face under it .. Hmm

Gensola · 14/12/2020 23:48

For my brother to be alive. To be able to get pregnant and have a baby with DH.

Not to have lipoedema which makes my legs not only ugly and fat but constantly painful.

To be able to speak fluent French.
