To ask what is your 'side hustle' and how much do you earn?

I need to preface this with apologising for using the term 'side hustle'. I know it is hated by many Grin

I work part time but over the years I have supplemented my income with various side hustles. Cleaning, buying and selling, cake decorating, etc. Now I tutor and earn about 350 a month extra.

What is your side hustle if you have one and how much do you earn each month from it?

I make and sell on Etsy but only started back in September and so far have probably only made around £300

I'm a musician and get £80 - £100 per gig (but not this year obvs). Proper fun it is too Grin

ButtWormHole · 13/12/2020 15:09

Tax free: matched betting, lodger and cashback

Not tax free: Amazon publishing (passive), property (mostly passive), freelance writing and um...OnlyFans.

I earn over 5 figures a month, every month.

Placemarking

tectonicplates · 13/12/2020 15:20

I think it's important to note that if you're thinking of applying for a mortgage at any point soon, don't do matched betting as mortgage lenders apparently look down on betting in general.

Only fans? Tell me more 😆

What exactly do you do? How do you find fans? Do you not worry about someone from real life following you?

Pinkrollercoaster · 13/12/2020 15:25

Mystery shopping. I started around 15 years ago alongside my full time job as I was struggling to pay the mortgage on my own. It's now my full time job 🙂

Are there many full time mystery shoppers around who actually do it as a career? I think I read somewhere that there used to be, but now there's a lot more of these low-paid websites and apps. Or do you do some kind of special thing that makes you a higher tier in some way? (Genuine question - sorry if it came across weirdly but I didn't know how to word it).

Thank you all for the ideas

I work three 4 hour evening shifts in a supermarket in addition to my day job. I take home £410 a month and get 10% off my shopping. It's not too onerous.

Dh is a beekeeper hobbyist. 30+hives. I market and sell the honey. 5-10K a year income.

@TerfTerfTerf messaged you. Thanks.

lastqueenofscotland · 13/12/2020 16:57

Ride other peoples horses.
Charge betweeen £20-45 depending on distance and if it’s exercising a polite horse for a time strapped owner or if I’m having to wrangle 600kg of arsehole...
Got a couple of regulars at the moment. I absolutely love it.

Sprig1 · 13/12/2020 17:11

I breed sheep. It makes me about 4k a year.

Cakequeen1988 · 13/12/2020 17:28

Vilified by Mumsnet but I sell Tropic skincare, I make about £400 a month and really enjoy it. Despite mumsnet knowing better that’s my sales not making money off anyone else.

It’s given me something to focus on and like a previous poster mentioned I have desperately needed that money after leaving a violent relationship and the friends I have made have been great!

ButtWormHole · 13/12/2020 17:47

I...have quite a niche on OF. People would quite obviously know it’s me but the money is life changing

lljkk · 13/12/2020 17:50

I do surveys but only get £5-£10/month for it. Probably an oversampled demographic?

Allhallowseve · 13/12/2020 17:53

Anyone that sells on Etsy what are the fees like?

Onedropbeat · 13/12/2020 17:55

I get just over £17 from something I’ve sold for £20

LadyFlumpalot · 13/12/2020 18:07

I make and sell silver jewellery. I sell about £500 a month but of that only about £100 is profit when I've factored in cost of materials, time, electricity etc. I do it because I enjoy it, not to make money.

yelyah22 · 13/12/2020 18:34

I write freelance. Make anywhere between £100 - £600 in a month depending on if I've got bigger projects in (I do some seasonal jobs) or just a small job. I could definitely push it harder, but my day job is quite taxing so I just do what I can be bothered to do - next year I'll probably try and get some more regular clients.

wannabebetter · 13/12/2020 18:37

I used to make jewellery & sell at craft fairs - was averaging takings of between £100 - £200 per fair, although factoring in cost of exhibiting, materials & time spent this was easily cut in half. Then everyone & their dog started making jewellery, & fairs started allowing exhibitors who were basically reselling Chinese tat & I just gave up in the end as not worth it! I also help someone complete self assessment & get around £50 for that (not financial advice literally just help complete the return) but feel guilty as it's really not hard....

Octopus37 · 13/12/2020 19:00

Hi, yes I started mystery shopping as a career, for me it led to merchandising and price checking. I work on a freelance basis, some of the work is quite lucrative, some is very poorly paid, it depends. I'm looking to change direction a bit, so have just started a copywriting course. I know it will take me time to make the switch though.
