To object to the white company seeing my husband a pink nightie

Imaginetoday · 11/12/2020 22:10

Ordered a men’s grey dressing gown for DH birthday today from white company. They delivered about 5 days ago. I didn’t check
He opens box...and I am not kidding...there was a pink nightie. lacy.
He wasn’t happy😳🤭
I spent over 1 hour in total trying to get through . Item now out of stock.
Husband has no present- other than a pink nightie which is too small for him anyway. Joking aside he was quietly pretty pissed off with me.
AIBU to think that this is either outstanding incompetency, or some jolly pick-packers idea of hilarity in their warehouses
Anyone else experiencing such **service from the White Company.

Thought I did it deliberately as a joke...was waiting for me to produce his real present.

@RoxanneMonke

Well yeah it’s not good for your DH, but mistakes happen, and you really should have checked it when you received it. Has he tried it? You never know, it might suit him.
Too small

It's hardly your fault!

Although unless he was desperate for one, a grey dressing gown hardly sounds the present of dreams. Unexciting at best..

Freddiefox · 11/12/2020 22:14

Why was he pissed off? Mistake happen, it will be rectified. We are all human. Why blame you?

Yep, it’s what he wanted...in fairness it was very nice...we’ve been married 30 years so run out of ideas🤣🤣

I’m more **ed off with the company...I just find it completely weird for them to have picked a completely different item ..women’s clothing...just seems too much of a hilarious jape some twat decided to do.
And cos they’re out of stock I have no replacement...they’re not restocking till January
And waiting so bloody long on phone lines

Mine would have laughed his head off - not been annoyed at all.

Al1langdownthecleghole · 11/12/2020 22:27

I'm really struggling to think that someone did this for shits and giggles.

Why are you assuming this OP?

inmylifeIlovedthemall · 11/12/2020 22:29

The White Company Customer Service is absolute c..p.

To the extent that while I love their things, I will no longer buy from them.

My last return (faulty item) took 16 emails and two hours of waiting for them to answer the phone.

The only tip I can give you is that if you get through insist on speaking to the Customer Services Manager. Things got resolved very speedily once she was involved.

Polly99 · 11/12/2020 22:29

It sounds annoying but a grey dressing gown is not a niche item. Buy one from somewhere else (Selfridges will have a good one) and send the nightie back. Don't waste time on the phone, it's pointless and frustrating and there are much better ways to spend time.

Defender90 · 11/12/2020 22:29

My DH would have laughed his arsed off, not be pissed off with me!

MushMonster · 11/12/2020 22:30

Is it your size?
You did make me laugh. I can imagine his face.
He shall laugh about ot once he finds his sense of humour.

Stock will be stored in a warehouse, which won’t be laid out like it is in a store. Staff will also be getting numerous items at any one time before putting the items in their shipping packaging. Mistakes happen. They haven’t don’t this on purpose. And unless you can say that you’ve never made a mistake (which not checking the parcel as soon as it arrived would class as a mistake in my book), then YABU. I once ordered a pack of ring sizers from amazon and a I got a child lock for a kitchen cupboard.

YANBU that your husband has decided to be pissed off at you because you didn’t get him a ‘real’ present. He sounds like a petulant child, not a grown man with 30 years of marriage.

AnaisNun · 11/12/2020 22:33

Your husband sounds like a knob if he’s “quietly pissed off” with you for a company sending the wrong item.

Hang on...

He has a penchant for grey loungewear and gets pissed off over nothing... OP seems desperate to please...

OP you’re not... Anastasia Steele are you?!

KenDodd · 11/12/2020 22:37

Can't believe your husband's pissed off with you. What a twat, he doesn't deserve a birthday present.

BooFuckingHoo2 · 11/12/2020 22:37

I’d find it such a turn off of my partner was annoyed about an innocent (funny) mistake!

Dita73 · 11/12/2020 22:39

LTB

Barmyfarmy · 11/12/2020 22:39

Their customer service is shocking. I always buy in store but bought a stack of towels once and as the bloke was scanning them i noticed 2 had some blob of brown wedged between them. It took about 10 minutes of me explaining I didn't want shitty towels for him to finally put them to the side and let me pick up 2 others.

Ordered online a few months ago- big order of all my basics- blouses, tops, jeans, nightwear and a few homey bits. All that arrived was a pair of socks and a baby blanket. Took weeks for a refund and had to phone and email them as the first time I emailed they essentially accused me of lying! They said it's been delivered so must all be there. I don't waste my time with them now

whatwedontknow · 11/12/2020 22:39

So you got the wrong order, you failed to check, who doesn’t check before they give a gift? Your fault.

Somewhere out there a wife / girlfriend may have been more disappointed opening a too big mans grey dressing gown rather than a pink lacy nightdress Grin

Do white stuff even do pink lace?

WilsonMilson · 11/12/2020 22:40

Surely your DH could see the funny side? I think mine would laugh his head off.

These things happen and I’m sure you’ll get it sorted eventually. I had an issue with a cardigan I ordered for my mother, they sent her gigantic pants in a size 22 instead, quite hilarious given she’s a very slender woman. She thought it was hilarious, got it sorted easily enough.

I think both of you need to lighten up a bit.

OverTheRubicon · 11/12/2020 22:43

I think you're taking this way too.personally.

It's crap service, but stop thinking it's some intentional joke aimed at your DH who they've never met.

Online has exploded for all retailers, they're trying to operate with increased volumes, new staff, with new covid safety rules - an error is far more likely than a dark plan.

Don't try to call, send a message via social media or even better a public tweet.

OverTheRubicon · 11/12/2020 22:47

One other thought... Is this.displacement anger? Because it sounds like you tried to get him the right gift and instead he got pissed off at you for someone else's error.

Most blokes would realise you don't pay White Company prices for a silly joke and either laugh at the error or feel bad for you because your effort didn't work out. Is he always an arse, or is it a crappier time for your relationship than you hoped, perhaps?
